I made a decision after reading some posts of a member named JWG. JWG wrote eloquent words about his journey and somewhere in that journey he fell seriously ill, and through that illness (smoking related) he reached out to his fellow quit peers and newbies and tried to help them keep their quit protected. JWG passed away the day that I discovered that board and read through all of his posts. I was 100+ pounds overweight, I smoked three packs a day, and I had serious health issues. I made the decision to utilize the message board to help me quit. This was the best decision that I have ever made. Was it easy? No, but every day I checked in and I held myself accountable by pledging NOT ONE PUFF EVER (just for today). With the help of my fellow quitters and the quitters ahead of me I made it through. Soon the hours were days, days became weeks, weeks became months, and I was living them as a nonsmoker. 5 years have gone by and I am 100+ pounds lighter, my health issues are better. I run for fun ?, I am a nursing student (which is why I pop on here and then disappear for long periods), I have made real friends from this board that I have met. This board saved my life and even though I am not here as often as I would like to be I do check in to see all of the good that it continues to do. If you are a newbie, or lurking and just thinking of quitting, please do it. Yes, it will be hard at first but as the time passes you will find that you don’t even think about smoking anymore, it becomes a fleeting thought. Make the decision like I did, use this board, lean on the members, hold yourself accountable, it will be the best decision that you ever make! I know, TLDR. Thank you guys! I you all! Happy New Year!! My hair is green Mammy!8 points

Good morning fellow NOPErs.... and welcome to the New Year... happy Hogmanany for our lovely Scottish contingent, you guys do this changing of the year better than anyone else in the world. So as we close the door on 2018 and reflect on all the joys, sadness, hopes, achievements and new friendships and memories made just think how much better 2019 will be. Did you know that 1 January is Commitment Day??... celebrated since 1960 Commitment Day as an extension of the tradition of New Year’s Resolutions—however, commitments are different from resolutions in that they are more often made to people, so they can benefit others as well as you! So you might take 5 minutes to turn to your significant other and repeat the commitment you made to them even decades earlier... or you may turn to your kids and commit to spending an hour with them a day.. every day... for the year... it may just be sitting down and having a chat in a cafe... or taking a walk in a park, or doing a jigsaw or a project together... or you may like to commit to a charity, commit to writing 1 letter a week for amnesty international, or commit to participating in Relay for Life, or a trek or a marathon.... or you may commit here to your fellow quitters to NOPE... and if your lurking, you may commit to not smoke... however you celebrate commitment day may you gain from your commitment. NOPE.... lived it every day of 2018.... gunna live it every day of 20197 points

I'm back. I failed in 2018 but I am determined that 2019 is going to be my year. I had beaten almost every obstacle until the family holiday at the back end of July beginning of August. I am currently reading an Allen Carr book for my inspiration for this quit which I'm determined is going to be my last quit. Ive set myself a time of 11:59pm tonight for my quit and am thoroughly certain this will be my time. I'm going for a run in the morning and will be regularly running alongside eating well. This is it for me. Onwards and upwards people. Good luck if you are also quitting and we'll done to everyone already quit.7 points

Congratulations @Devil Doll for being 5 years smoke free! Well done and what an amazing gift your were able to give yourself. Even five years down the track rewards and celebrations are still important so make sure you do something special just for you today. We would love to hear how you are traveling, especially now you have been quit for half a decade.6 points
