Last week I had jury duty. During deliberations you are locked in a room for 8+ hours with 11 other strangers known to you as numbers. During lunch one day when everyone was quiet, I said, "I'm really glad I quit smoking several months ago because I would be jumping out of my skin by now jonesing for a cigarette and wanting out of here bad. It's good for me, but maybe bad for you all because I'm going to continue to argue with you!"8 points

Hi All! I hope you all had a nice weekend! I have a funny story....my family and I went to visit an old friend of my husband's (everyone there was a non-smoker) which was great especially since I was only 6 days smoke free on Saturday. Soooo, a woman there came up to me and said "hey do you have a cigarette?, I know no no one smokes here and you are my last hope" (it was my first time meeting this group so she was unsure of my situation) UGHHH!!! No lady! i do not! I just thought how ironic! I was sitting with someone else and told her I am recently quit. She yelled at her (jokingly) to leave me alone and then told me about her mom having stage 4 COPD and needing a lung transplant. ? so sad. But these are things I need to hear to keep me far away. I have to say I am proud for actually having 2 drinks and not feeling that "need" to smoke. WOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO7 points

No luck needed, Blur! You can do this. You've made a choice to save your life and regain your freedom. It's hard but it's so positive. Read for knowledge and post for support. You will find both in abundance here. And it's a NOPE for me!!7 points

I have several circles of friends. I divide them up. Maintain relations with each of them . We are all in varying stages of life, big kids, little kids, no kids, stress, remorse, and contentment. I never really thought about how I categorize(d) my friends. Perhaps it was mentioned in passing many years ago in between banter with the bartender. I see it -so much more clearly now that I observe my young child's social interactions. I observe through a microscope and telescope. Both are equally helpful. It is amazing how I can still be an outcast in social situations. The varying social situations I often find myself in. Nearly two years ago, I was the only smoker. So I thought. Secret smokers are everywhere! I always felt on edge, wanting to leave the discussion or party just to go home and smoke in the privacy of my own patio. Being a secret smoker sucked. I felt isolated. I have a new set of friends. I've kept the old. It is safe now for me to socialize with my old friends that still smoke. Safe because I am not a smoker. I stay inside and they spend more time outside. Again, I feel isolated. They are safe because I am not a cheater. I'm inside alone with their card hands face down on the table. I'm honest. I'm a non-smoking, non-cheating crappy card player.6 points

Thank you all of you. For the constant support and the incessant competitive spirit on Chicks and Sticks, for the articles that somehow have come at the right time when I was grappling with a question regarding my quit. I intend to celebrate by renewing my commitment to myself, as a reminder that times will continue to be tough, but picking up a cigarette won't help solve problems ever. Thank you!!!4 points

Great video. Thanks for sharing. Important part of quitting is changing behaviors. Adding this one to my arsenal of weapons to keep me on this journey.4 points

There are been so many wonderful changes, but the change in my self worth and self respect is the most important to me...I've spent most of my life feeling not worthy of anything really, but now that I've learned to care and celebrate me and my strength I feel like I can take on the world!4 points

Twenty days and it was actually a good day. I actually felt like I wanted the quit more than the cigarette. Every time the thought entered my mind, I would take a deep breath and exhale and the thought would pass. Maybe I have this after all. ?3 points

three days, three weeks, and three months are times when craves tend to hit hardest. These are the hardest tests of one's willpower. But now before you go worrying about the three month mark, just when you get there (and until then), try to avoid any and all temptation to smoke. I never had the three week battle for some reason but three months - I was scrap booking some old magazines which are chock full of tobacco ads. For you - You are right at the three week mark. Yeah it will take a couple days for the nicobitch to shut her trap but then the craves will tone down to a low roar again. Junk food? Hell yeah! When I quit, I was obsessed with food. You probably won;t gain nearly the weight you are imagining. Maybe five pounds, maybe. Look, the nicobitch (voice in your head telling you to smoke) is throwing a shit fit right now. Cussing, demanding, throwing things, acting like a spoiled small child. So then, tell her to go back to hell and starve some more. You won't believe this but one day the "negotiations" with her will be more like this - Nicobitch - "Linda, you know, I was wondering if maybe, if it is ok..." Linda - "Go fcuk yourself" And the crave will go away. It won't have the energy, due to starvation, to fight or have tantrums. We have had several people who come in, have quit for several days or a few weeks and then just give up, go back to smoking, and vanish. Do not be one of them. REFUSE to give in to craves. It is hard at times but you cannot give in.3 points

Not worrying about when and where to find a "safe" spot, away from people, especially children. The guilt if a child saw me, the bad breath and the smell on my clothes, the sneaking around sometimes at home when I wanted "one" really bad, the worry of smoking in the car and then littering ash around everywhere Oh I feel so free...3 points
