Hi there, I don’t know if I belong here, I quit a week ago (plus some minutes!) before getting my wisdom teeth out. I smoked for eight years starting in college, anywhere from a quarter to a half pack a day. I know that’s “nothing” to some individuals. I’m a security guard in the mountains - middle of nowhere. In the summer it’s boring, in the winter it’s stressful and fun - but it’s beautiful year-round. Anyway I live and work here, and it’s filled with triggers. I’m past the whole post-surgery don’t-smoke deal, but trying to ride this as long as I can for my boyfriend and for me. Couldn’t give up the weed, don’t know if I ever will. That’s probably another post for another site. I figured this quit was more pressing and I hope this can help me.7 points

Welcome @Birch...oh you are so in the right place. 1 smoke a week...a pack a day we come in all shapes and sizes but the one thing we all have in common is we are nicotine addicts and we want to be free of this addiction. Dunno about up north (I live down under) but down here post extractions we are supposed to be smoke free for at least 2 weeks to avoid dry socket (omg the pain, the pain ,...yep I didn't wait)...so keep that as extra motivation. As for the happy weed...there are those here who do and those who don't ...some just eat it...some are really against it...most are indifferent but I say cross one bridge at a time. Biggest tips I have for newbies...join the daily NOPE thread...Not One Puff Ever...even if like me in the beginning it was a NOPE for today which brings me to my second biggest tip....just take it one day at a time, only worry about today...tomorrow will get here eventually but just focus on today. Other tips...keep your fluids up. And your blood sugar levels...2 birds, 1 stone...drink lots of juice I don't wish the newbies good luck because a successful quit has nothing to do with luck, just respecting yourself enough not to put something in your mouth and setting it in fire.7 points

Little over 7 years. No interest in smoking. I see people and feel sad for them. Its a shame we ever did this but a guess it had its time. So glad I got some friends on buddy book from here and got to squeeze a few chicks in person. The eggs are a good group. We are a weird group and when I check in there is always another weirdo who joined. Bunch of window lickers who common thread is ending something stupid we all did. Thank goodness there isn't groups for my other habits. There probably is but I'm not looking Keep marching, head forward and take one step at a time. Don't look too far ahead and enjoy the process. Embrace the suk.5 points

No you're not Juan. You think you have a hard time but you don't. Just imagine: twice weekly Chemo treatment ... breathing from a tube up your nose fed by some Oxygen concentrator. An hour or so baking your internal organs under the Radiation Emitter. Wasting away on a Terminal Diagnosis with mere months to live.. That's a hard time. A. Real. Hard. Time. This? This is nothing. NOTHING. EZPZ4 points

I was just looking at my 2019 Ashkickers logo, and I realized something--2019 is winding down! What the heck? Where did the year go? This time last year I was deep in the smoking habit, still trying to hide it from my family, feeling an almost constant sense of urgency and desperation for that next smoke.. Now I'm almost 9 months smoke free, and cravings have dwindled down to only the very occasional nagging thought, easily pushed aside in favor of a smoke-free existence.. If you are early in your quit and struggling with the daily grind, don't despair! It gets better. Before you know it, you'll be wondering where the heck the time went, and you'll be so happy you kept your resolve in those early days. Freedom is fantastic!4 points

Keep fighting, Tony. You are going through the roughest days but it does get better as you go along. Stick close to this site. Read, participate in games here (which can really distract you from cravings). Do whatever you need to do as long as you don't smoke. Things will get better.3 points

Hard times are temporary. The freedom gained is permanent. Your focus is in the right place Juan.3 points

Welcome back tony. Congratulations on finally quitting. Unfortunately the first week is the toughest and you just need to stay focused on the prize - a smoke free life. I just would deep breath and concentrate on the clean air going in and out. You can try jillar's air cigarette to distract you. I promise that each day gets better and you become more powerful as you take back you life from this addiction. Try and stay close and shout out if you need help. We are here to guide you. Hang in there!3 points

Great on posting Tony. The first few days are tough, you have to get thru the physical withdrawal symptoms. Jillar gave hints above that I used and helped me get thru the tough parts somewhat. The good news is that some of these will go away soon. I also drank cold water as well as cold juice when a craving came on and also took walks. Another good thing is come here often when you can -- there is a lot of educational material as well as good to people to ask for advice or just socialize some. Keep strong - this can be done.3 points
