  1. Hello all, it's been awhile since I've posted , but this place hasn't been far from my thoughts. Tomorrow at 5:46 PM will be a year quit for me. I just wanted you all to know I may not have made it through the first part of this journey with out your help. I had to go out on my own without my safety net to complete first step. For those of you just finding it...use it and learn from the people here. I found out they knew and felt every emotion I was feeling and could talk me off the edge when needed ….it may be quite a few times before it's all said and done, but come here for help, it's worth it. I don't think it is ever over, the cravings, but they will as everyone says here , get better. Everything will look up for you and when it does it will astonish you how much better you feel... not only physically but mentally about yourself. Thank you all for your help it is and was much appreciated. And you new quitters...get on and ride this train and keep the NOPE attitude.

  5. Third NOPE Friday for me. Fridays have been the toughest days for me because of Happy Hour; however, each one is getting easier. I can still go and enjoy the end of a work week with my friends and avoid the smokes. The good thing is that the group of smokers in my work group has dwindled over the years. It was getting sad and lonely- for good reason.

  9. I had quite a few trick or treaters here and we were under a tornado watch. It was both a fun and somewhat eerie Halloween night

  10. @Hope2Nope I, too, have thought about leaving. Then, I read something posted by a newbie and I’m reminded of my former self. Or, I see a celebration of some sort - especially a fellow 2016 Butt-Kicker- and I am inspired to stick around offer applause and support as I’m able. Like you- support from a forum helped my quit so much!!

  13. Your commitment to NOPE is a shield of armor, Old one. Each situation you encounter, each trigger you conquer re-wires your brain so the associations will not be connected to nicotine anymore. You Quit Smoking !

  15. This is where it gets tough. My suggestion is to try and fill the free time doing new things that you don't normally do. This will help you avoid triggers and keep your mind occupied. Also, if the weather is nice, do an extended walk or run. This will give you a sense of accomplishment, show you how much more you can do physically without smoking, and help slow the inevitable weight gain (I'm up 2-3 pounds over the last three weeks, but i think it would be more without doing some exercise).

  18. Here too @Joe7, luckily hubby bought candy we like lol. It's weird though because it was a beautiful warm day here and there's no school tomorrow so we thought we'd have a bunch of goblins. One little girl came dressed up like a cop and when she said trick or treat I told her I thought she was here to arrest me. I heard the dad laugh but the girl just looked at me funny

  21. Yes I am trying to get a pretty busy schedule going. Made a list of things I can do in the house, clean closets etc, baking whatever to keep busy - or if I need it I will pop some popcorn and watch a good movie or two. I want this quit more than I want a smoke and that is what I repeat to myself. I had to get gas today and I said to my son I am getting it right now with you here, I can pay at the pump and I do not need to go inside like I used to to buy my two packs. My son told I can eat his halloween candy if I need it... Well I made a dent today.. Not great for weight gain - But I did not smoke!

  22. I think traditional trick-or-treating is becoming a thing of the past; i.e., kids going door-to-door. Where I live, a local elementary school was turned into a gathering spot for all the little ghouls and goblins last night. They decorated the playground, called it "Spookyville", and local businesses donated candy that was given out in the gym.

  24. The early weekends were tough for me too because of the extra free time. As old man coffee just said, try to fill your new free time by trying new things. Also, spending time here can also help kill time and keep your mind off the smokes. @HeatherDianne and @Old Man Coffee you are both doing great!

  25. I bet the tornado watch kept a bunch of them at home tonight @johnny5. I sure don't miss those one bit! People always ask me if I rather live in tornado weather since I was raised in Alabama or earthquakes now that I'm in California and I'll take the earthquakes any day over those scary tornados

  32. It was the quietest Halloween I can remember here. We usually have a steady flow of trick or treaters, but it was barely a trickle tonight. They didn't put a dent in the amount of candy we were prepared to give out.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
