  4. Oh.... well still today, just, still time to share my NOPE with all my lovely NOPE friends.... today we have the choice of Read a Book Day... or Fight Procrastination Day... well guess what my cheery friends I scored a big fat NOPE for both.... I did not read a book and I did not fight procrastination... but I also did not put a poisonous stick in my mouth, set it on fire and take a puff... So that my friends is a successful day full of NOPE.

  7. Congratulations @WeegieWoman for being 10 months smoke free. Well done on your beautiful double figure quit. You certainly look smashing in double digits. It is great having you with us on the train to share our quits. The advice and support you give to others and the laughs in the not so serious threads in making many of our journies easier. Thanks for being with us. So definately need to pop the cork on some wine tonight and raise a glass or two to toast yourself and your wonderful quit.

  9. Just read that Burt Reynolds passed away today. And with that, a piece of my childhood just died. Gone but not forgotten. Gator McKlusky. Stroker Ace. Billy Clyde Puckett. Paul Crewe. J.J. McClure. And of course, The Bandit...

  11. Thanks guys, I am so happy that I made it. I used to stare at the quit smoking time line and look at the five year mark where it lists some major health benefits and wonder if I would make it. Now it is free and easy and I do not want the nicotine any more. I think it is just saying nope minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day, dismissing the urge until it is more natural to be a nonsmoker than a smoker. For me this took over a year although the urge grew fainter as the first year went by. Remember. Smoking us yucky. Meow

  14. everything has been said.... but just wanted to point form some things that were key.... Your step son would not like being remember by smoking He would want you healthy He would want his younger siblings not exposed to smoking Smoking is not going to help, it wont make you feel better. It will make you feel worse You are in the process of rewiring your brain. help to create new pathways, if you get the smoking urge and you are thinking about your step son, replace the thought with a happy memory or a new smell. expanding on Jane's smelly candle idea, if you put some essential oil on a hanky, you can sniff this when you get a crave to replace it. So for me, when it got really persistent, those smoking thoughts, I would start listing in my head all the hurdles life had presented and how I had beaten them... it was like, "what annoying voice in my head, you think we should smoke because we are feeling sad??... NOPE... I am strong, I am powerful, I didn't need to smoke to fell happy again when xyz happened, I sucked it up, I got through it and I smiled and felt happy and not one smoke in sight. Who needs smokes"..... I wrote up a whole list of life battles I have fought without smokes and would draw on them when the craves/thoughts/urges were bad. You would be surprised how many you have. Smoking masks our emotional wounds so that we don't deal with things you need to deal with them to move forward and grow. @Linda Thomas ... wow, look how far your confidence in yourself has come since you quit... super proud of you... its kinda liberating isn't it. @Christa326 Don't let the craving for nicotine derail you from your commitment to yourself to be smoke free. You deserve a life without tobacco and nicotine and all the other nasty, vile, chemicals in those filthy little sticks... ONLY you can control if you put a smoke in your mouth, light it and drag.... no one else can do it just you and you are strong enough to not do that. You know that doing that will help nothing, will make you feel worse, will damage your health, will shorten your life. So be strong.

  17. Congratulations @Philip G. for being 1 month smoke free. Well done on making the decision to free your life of smokes and nicotine. The first month is the hardest and now you have finished that so here is a big woohoo. Hopefully you are feeling more comfortable with your quit. Rewards are really important, especially for the early milestones, so make sure you do something to celebrate and reward your achievement of being one month smoke free. It would be great if you could pop in and let us know how you celebrated.

  20. I was thinking about the first few months of my quit and how I posted on the boards quite alot. I posted about dizziness, stomach aches, craves and anger and and clear lungs and weight gain and feelings of sheer joy . The first month, the first drink, the first vacation, the first taste, the first drs appointment,. Each of these were special, unique, important to me, my experience. The old phartes commented, comforted, celebrated, and laughed . What I didn't know at the time was that 1000+ nonsmokers before me had posted very similar comments at very same time frame during their own quits. Yet these were their own unique experiences. The old phartes helped in very similar ways. Tthere is a pattern , a standard journey of the quit that we all follow, experiencing the same thing as we journey. This means we can rely on the nonsmokers on the path ahead who tell us how it will be if we continue to travel. True release. True freedom. This is what they are telling us and we can believe it is true.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
