Yep. Daily. I try to view those interactions with the miserable bastards of the world as an opportunity to test and refine my skills in the areas of patience and anger management. Stupid, irrational, and petulant people give me plenty of opportunity to get in the repetitions I need. Kind of a "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade" situation. As opposed to my initial inclination to start chucking lemons at people's heads. True words right there. You have no control over other people's actions. You have total control over how you react to them. Good work on not smoking Christa.

Hi All! I am putting this entry here and not SOS bc NO WAY is a person going to annoy me to the point of going back to smoking. I know I am stronger than that... But the past few days have been more than TRYING w certain people in my life. I know it is them, when i tell outsiders who are neutral (and very blunt people who i know will be honest) they do tell me what is going on is not my fault. I feel like I am being tested. Anyone ever feel this way? Me having a smoke isn't going to make people see who they really are!!! YESS!!!!

Hi all, meet Chamele, my weird looking, big-eyed, somewhat scared baby quit. It's exactly one week old. I nurture it , raise it and now and then I spoil it. I'm afraid he's a bit unworldly and foggy sometimes. He might even scream for no apparant reason. There's no need to hide from him, he's not dangerous. He seems alert, afraid even. He has this cool habit of changing colours, lately he chooses different clothing every few minutes. It suits him for now. They say he will ease out when he grows up. I love him anyway.

Hi Christa, glad you're not letting anyone or anything get in the way of that awesome quit you have going. And in answer to your question, yes I think most of us have felt that way and it seems like when quitting those feelings are amplified. Those people were always that way but in these first few trying days, weeks, months it can seem tenfold! You're doing great and keep on posting because we all can relate

Gday When I see an Actor smoking on screen these days I think to myself? None smoker... do they really look like a smoker? Are we seeing the whole smoking thing or a couple of pics of lite cig to lips etc... Or are they a smoker... a full time ridge didge. Addict? Me I'm not going to trust my luck for a screen shoot! I'm an addict. NOPE. Not Open Puff Ever. Who cares what the directors says... I care what we see as "normal" I did normal when I started. I achieved addiction without really trying. Sorry for me..don't be!. my life experieance.... you can't just pretend to be a part time smoker. get a lung full of smoke your on your way. C

Hello my NOPE mates. Bit late today because I have been out for most of the day.... then its taken me a few hours to settle on a shout out because the 'special' days today were either a bit dodgy or just plain silly and then India came to the rescue... today, in India, is Indian National Sport Day.... and why shouldn't we be thankful for sport and celebrate and rejoice it, there are so many positives sports can bring to a person, community and even the world. Being smoke free has made sport so much more enjoyable as both a participant and as a fan. Didn't miss a single second of a game this year having to sneak out to feed the addiction... so NOPE makes sport even more enjoyable. So we can't acknowledge Indian National Sport Day with out mentioning Major Dhyan Chand Singh... one of the greatest hockey players in the world... now this is field hockey... but Chand had never played hockey until he joined the army at 16, 4 years later he was in the national team, 2 years after that he captained India in the the first of 3 consecutive Olympic Gold Medals (28, 32, 36)... he served in the army until he was 51. He still holds the record for the most individual goals at an Olympics and in an individual game. NOPE ... because I want to breath like a champion.

Thanks everyone for all the woohoos... while I did love @WeegieWoman's snacks (they were so delish) I do think @Doreensfree wins the day with a pressie that was both sparkly and lickable . Wow, 9 months seems like yesterday but also seems like 9 years at times with all the things that have happened in my life since I quit. So month 9 is winning the prize for being the best month so far. And funny @Sazerac should mention rewards... I just got of the phone with my t-shirt supplier... he was so funny in a Hipster kind of way... rang to make sure I was OK as I hadn't been in to order my new shirt... So for the newbies each month of my quit I have rewarded myself with a Nope t-shirt.... I have a Nope, then nope in binary code, morse code, braille, AUSLAN (aussie sign, but the letters to spell it), semaphore flags, you get the idea.... so normally I go in on the 28-29th to get my shirt made... and its become a bit of an event with the boys at the shop.... so today I was a no show and they phoned to see if all was well.... and it came out that they have a bet going in the shop... if I make it to 12 months the 3 of them are going to quit and use my shirts as a monthly reward....I explained that I was just having a couple of bad days and wasn't up to the train trip in... but was probably going to be in next week.... thinking its time for a pink sparkly top...(I frickin hate pink)... but even though the hipster boys are hipster boys I just don't see them rockin pink sparkles with much joy. So yet another incentive to KTQ... not that I need one. So to all my friends, old and new, you need to know I wouldn't still be here without you. The support and friendship of the those at the QT has been the biggest secret bonus of quitting, so unexpected and so appreciated. Oh and @Tammy you give just as much support to me as I might give you and yep, your post made my eyes leak. So big thanks to all of you for proping me up and kicking my arse when its needed, for making me laugh and feel valued, for giving me the strength I need to NOPE when I think I don't have it... @jillar thanks for always remembering my anni and making sure everyone else notices too.

I"ve just now started watching (streaming?) The Crown. What a wonderful show. Gorgeous furnishings and landscapes. Talented actors abound. They smoke. So much smoking. Somehow watching this period piece vs something like ... Singles or Reality Bites...makes the smoking so -- dare I say-- less common and more glamorous. The very trait execs and advertisers honed in upon and perfected. I know the King died of cancer, Winston Churchill suffered the strokes. I would be lying to you all if I said I watch this show without the noticing the amount of smoking and longing just a bit. A teeny bit. But I will never ever smoke again. I fear I will always yearn when it is depicted as being expected and accepted. I am confident I will never smoke again. I am confident I will always have the "what ifs.." on the cusp of romanticising the cigarette. What if I take just one drag? What if I take just one cigarette? What if I take just one pack? What if I take just one carton? What if I take one month, one year,...one decade to restart my quit? What if I die? How will my child be? I know I will never smoke again, I accept that I will never smoke again. I accept the moments of longing for it, The Hit. I accept I may always be temped. I accept and know that I am stronger. --L4L

Personal accountability is of primary importance. However, with 7.5 billion of us living on the same floating rock...it's not a waste of time to consider how you are going to interact with others. In fact, considering the ways interpersonal interactions influence you is one of the more practical things you can do.

In the past...in my smoking career...if I came across a mean nasty person...I would reach for my little crutch ,and wonder why folks had to be so mean to others...NOW.... I am smoke free...and still wonder why folks have to be so mean to others...my puffing my brains out ,and killing myself didn't make any difference...!!

I agree to the extent of being accountable to myself as far as smoking....but there is no denying some people are just miserable. I just have to learn how not to care so much!

If interested, I am nearly done with day 4. It's been good and bad, relishing the good. To everyone else just starting out, the end of each day is amazing!

Well glad someone raised it. I certainly notice smoking on the screen way more than I ever did before. Although I had pretty much stopped going to the flicks (cinema) to see movies because it was too long without a smoke (seriously, that much of a junky) and then if someone lit up in the movie, especially the second half it was agony. Anything on the idiot box was safe... I could even still watch through the sliding door while I was in the yard smoking. So I noticed it before, especially the last few years when I had imposed a daily limit (which didn;t apply if I was at a mates, hormonal, stressed, at softball.... so really not that existant, but hey I was a junky, let me delude myself)... but let me tell you the first 6 months I after I quit I noticed every single time someone on the telly lit up.... every single time.... and in our house at least once a month we get to watch 10 Things I Hate About You and teenage heath ledger smoking made me want to put my fist through the screen.... I was so bad the kid memorised his smoking sceens and would tell me to close my eyes....because that little shit was told by a girl he had to quit and he just stops smoking.... it made me so angry he could just stop (yes I know its a movie)..... now I see people light up (and I notice all of them) and I half the time I think does that add anything to the story line? Why does it need to be there? Who disgusting does that look?.... it honestly doesn't phase me too much. I mean if you're making a show about Churchill and he isn't smoke a cigar its not accurate is it... it needs to be there and it would probably annoy me more if it wasn't. Same as Mad Men, if they didn't have a durry hanging out their mouth half the show it would be inaccurate for the time period... so that, I can handle.... when there is no benefit to the plot or the time period to someone smoking it just pisses me off. I am soooo glad it isn't a trigger anymore, not even young Patrick Verona.... but seriously I think 80% of the smoking on our screens is unnecessary and it just annoys me.

Yes, accomplshment and the end of my smoking life. Both. Everyday such a great feeling no matter how hard the day. Bad storms tonight = chain smoking.....but not me though hubby did. Feel so get so great not giving in. Sat and cuddled my doggie. Win!

I was in the cemitery yesterday seeing my loved ones and wondered...why all the violence and fuss about, we´re fellow human with the same fate. Why all the fighting. RIP

The whole train theme going on here made me realize something I had never thought about before: I listen to a lot of songs about trains.

It happens christa, i often wonder how miserable people must be to act like that. If you don't let them they can never bother you and NEVER smoke as they will win. I had the store owner where i bought my ciggs tell me one time trying to get under my skin "you'll be back, all you smokers come back". he was an a-hole and if you sit back karma will do its work. BTW that guy got deported back to yemen . You will be edgy early on and in a situation like that what helped me was exercise or some activity to work off that stress /anxious feeling

I am consciously aware when someone is smoking on TV now, whereas it seemed normal when I was a smoker. Sometimes get a junkie thought that it looks relaxing or pleasant, but it's quickly squashed when I realize that they're killing themselves. It all started with that damn Wilma Flintstone!

Congratulations @PearlJen on being smoke free for 3 whole years! Well Done Jen for having 3 wonderful years free of your addiction. What a great job you have done to have such a wonderful quit. So make sure you celebrate this anniversary and do something special to spoil yourself.

I don't crave it when I see it on tv but I definitely notice it more so than when I smoked. When I smoked seeing smoking on tv made me want to go out and have one too

I also like to remember, don't put anything in your mouth and set it on fire! Reminds one how stupid smoking is!
