She's Here!

Maddie May made her long awaited debut on Monday morning, June 22 at 5:38 a.m.  Maddie and April are both healthy and getting plenty of rest following the big day.  Sugar Britches and Baby Britches are a couple of champs.  Miss Maddie weighed in 8 pounds 4 ounces.

Little Miss Maddie is beautiful.  The best place to start in describing her, the first thing practically everyone comments on seeing her for the first time, is her hair.  The little gal has a head full of black hair.  She has so much hair that she already has twigs of hair sticking out over both ears.  The first thing my dad asked when seeing her was: did you put a wig on that baby?  She has big brown eyes, a cute little button nose, and chubby little cheeks...She's perfect.

April was remarkable through the entire pregnancy right up through labor and delivery.  I don't need to tell most of you, but childbirth is an intense event.  I knew I had a special woman in April, but I have gained a new level of respect for her.  As the contractions were getting stronger and she was dealing with some serious pain, I asked her how she was feeling.  Through gritted teeth she said: "I've been better."

Every moment since laying eyes on my baby girl for the first time has been special.  Holding her for the first time, I was speechless; I just looked at her with amazement.  On Monday afternoon when there was that first moment that it was just the three of us in the room together.  It has never been more clear to me what matters in life than at that moment.  On Monday afternoon, the doctors performed some routine tests on Maddie...She was not having it.  The little gal has a good set of lungs on her, she can really sound off when things don't suit her.  She was crying pretty loud until I picked her up.  Told her everything was going to be alright and she calmed down. She put her head on my chest and rolled her eyes up at me and looked me over as best she could.  I liked that.  It felt like the first moment when she realized that her daddy will always look out for her.

It has been an exciting week here and the journey is just beginning.

Oh Boo, I am so excited for you three.  Sounds like Maddie has daddy pegged already.  Just bat those big brown eyes at him and he just melts.  She will always be your little girl.  I know she is the prettiest baby in the nursery.  She is the best of both you and April.  You are both going to have so much fun getting to know that little bundle.  We will be anxiously waiting to give advice.    You are going to be awesome parents!!!

Oh how precious Boo!  Congratulations!!  My best to you, your wife, and little Miss Maddie!

Woohoo...she's here....So, so very happy for you, sugar britches and Cash...your little family of 3 is now 4.

So was kinda hoping for her to be born on world fairy day or white water rafting day....BUT....she picked a wonderful day to join us:

Born during universal father's week (21-27 June)...our lovely Miss Maddie will forever share her birthday with Kris Kristofferson, Erin Brockovich, Cyndi Laupa and the one and only Bruce McAvaney...now that's special!

On this date some pretty significant history happened...the queens grandad became king, then the US Congress formally adopted the pledge of allegiance, the GI bill was passed into law and the EPA was created....Lou Gehrig hit 3 home runs in a single game, Robert Palmer released Simple Irresistible, Lynyard Skynard released both their 5th & 8th lyve albums.

So, for future special occasions remember her birth flowers are roses (symbolizing love and appreciation) and honeysuckle (a symbol for the everlasting bonds of love) and her birth stones are pearl, alexandrite and moonstone.

She a very lucky little princess who has certainly won the mummy and daddy jackpot.

I am so happy Maddie May is here with us on the planet.

Your post made me cry, Boo.

Holding your daughter, speaking to her.  She already knows your voice from inside April's body

now, she knows your face.

So poignant.

So glad April is fine.   You are all very special people.

Congratulations Boo and Mrs Boo, on the arrival of your beautiful baby girl Maddie May.

I loved reading about her, you are both going to be amazing parents.

Love to you all

I cried too, so precious, and bought back memories of my own babies being born. There is no moment like it.

Funny how that works.  Maddie has tiny little hands yet has me wrapped around her little finger.

I don't even have the words to express how much I love that little girl.

With that in mind, I'm going to plant a rose bush for Miss Maddie.  We already have wild honeysuckle growing on the property.

I don't know if any of this resonates with Maddie, but I talk to her a lot when I'm holding her.

We've talked about everything from dogs to hiking to identifying different types of trees.  I even explained the nutritional content of the milk she drinks.  She seems content to listen to my rambling.

Not even two weeks old yet and the little gals hair is growing quickly.  She has a cowlick that sticks up right on the crown of her little head.

I tell ya what...my baby is so cute it's ridiculous.

Maddie is holding her head up more and more now.  She was laying on my chest this morning and kept popping up to look at me.

And with all of that hair, I think she deserves bonus points for holding her head up.

Don't mind me, I'll be popping in from time-to-time to brag about my little girl.

How,s the sleep going ????

Intermittently.

I'm not complaining.  Me and Sugar Britches work in shifts and catch naps here and there.

A bit of sleep deprivation is a small price to pay for a bundle of joy.

@Boo thanks so much for sharing...all posts are getting me in the feels...but that's not a bad thing...I am so happy for you all.
