  12. The enjoyment argument is destroyed in Allen Carr's book. It's big misconception that there is enjoyment involved because we confuse it with addiction. The best counter-argument for me is the glue-sniffing comparison. If we see a glue-sniffer on the street we don't think, "That looks so good, I'm missing out on a pleasure." Of course not, we see it for what it is, a sad and harmful addiction. The glue-sniffer is probably thinking something else and is arguably 'enjoying' it. I view smoking in the same light as glue-sniffing.

  15. Welcome back - I totally understand picking a quit date - it gives you time to get ready - but it also just gives you more time to smoke - I originally was going to quit on November 15 - but I just decided one morning when I had only a smoke left to quit instead of buying any more and here I am - Has it been easy? nope - Have I wished I kept my original quit day? - Of course then I would still be smoking. All junkie thinking... But whatever you decide we are here for you!!

  16. I too felt all of these feelings associated with smoking,, abbynormal, the shame was the worst thing. I have never been ashamed of much, but when society gives you the flick so to speak, then this really hurt me to the core. I have looked at the research given out from sazerac for the reward system and the brain function.. I believe in getting rewards for something you are proud of, the only comment I need to make is; that in my day the rewards were given out for smoking in oh so subtle ways. Like role models on movies which convinced you that it was "cool" to smoke, women especially were given the tag subconsciously of being emancipated if you lit up especially with a long cigarette holder, then you were truly emancipated and sophisticated at the same time. That is no excuse, but in those days no education was readily available. Later on I developed the need for getting away from boring chit chat, which the cigarette gave me another excuse to use. Now, I know better of course, and I feel happier in society, and as far as boring chit chat is, I have taken the position of listening a lot more, and I think I have succeeded in this a whole lot. My life now is not boring, and I have so much to look forward to there is not enough hours in the day. I start buying candles tomorrow, no more cakes.

  17. Thanks everyone Thanks for the welcome. Amazing how friendship form on these groups. It was so intimidating at 1st especially reaching out for help. But it does really if you want it bad enough....or just enough I suppose. I’m trying to navigate this site. It’s a bit different lol. Thanks again for the warm welcome.

  19. Welcome back kazza, I'm sorry you lost your quit. I have to agree with the others that there's no time like the present to give yourself that present of quitting smoking. I know for myself that anytime I set a quit date the anxiety of actually going through with quitting was too much and I would just put it off. My health was suffering too so I know how important it is for you to quit. So please stick close. You will get all the support you need here. It's really good to 'see' you again

  20. Hi . I’m Mysticcat, a Quitnet nomad. I’m wandering to meet up with Q friends and make new ones. I see a few here already. I quit 1/16/2013. The support, experiences and information shared by others truly help keep me quit especially in the early days. I hope that I can give back in this community like in Qnet. Support is so important in quitting and why these support groups are so important. Have a great smokefree day >^.^< .

  31. @Kazza, Welcome back ! @Vivianne is right....why wait ? Waiting enables anxiety and fear and a change of heart. Decide to quit and quit. Then read all you can, even if you think you already know about nicotine addiction. The information needs to be embedded in your brain, leaving NO room for relapse. You can build yourself a strong and sturdy quit, put the work into your quit. Invest in Yourself. You deserve to be Free !

  32. Welcome back Kazza! Great to read that you are gonna get back on the train! The best gift you can give yourself if you ask me! Is there any (realistic) reason to delay this present? I mean.. why wait? The train is ready for you! The hardest weeks could be over on the 24th right? Let the Junky not be the one who decides! That said, if you do decide to wait, that's cool too! Your quit so take your time to educate yourself - even if you think you know everything there is to know.. you need all hands on deck and all knowledge as leverage to overpower the addiction

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
