  2. If you want answers, see your doctor; request pulmonary function tests; request low dose cat scan (should be free); and in the meantime buy an oximeter (cheap and readily available) to track 02 levels during various activities. As Doreen noted, if nothing else you will be giving yourself some peace of mind. Priceless.

  14. Good news and bad news. The good news is that I ran 3 1/2 miles through my (hilly) neighborhood after work. It was tough and I'm a little sore this morning, but I did OK. The bad news is that I ate like a crazy person yesterday. Dinner was fine (homemade cabbage soup and vegan chiken nuggets), but then I just kept grazing all evening--gummy bears, crackers and peanut butter, ice cream, tortilla chips, etc. It's a little disappointing because, while the running seems to be going well, I absolutely know that it's impossible to outrun or outexercise a bad diet. I'll commit to more reasonable and disciplined eating today and a run of four miles at the park or canal.

  29. Oh. I am heartbroken that you are suffering so right now. I suffer from depression and anxiety and I know how hard it can be when you get upset, everything just closing in. I know you must feel really bad. My little my pups sleep with me also. Just having them near brings me comfort and calms me, I am sure Sofia knows you are in pain and she wants to keep close to help you. When I am struggling I try to just stay in bed, pet the pups and rub their little tummies until I relax enough to fall asleep. I know I will feel better in the morning if I can just get to sleep. I feel sometimes like you feel now, that it would just be over. We think that we are hurting so bad that it will not get better, but it will, we have to let our mind go to think of things we love, things we did love to do. Just memories can lift your spirit. Try to think of those when you are trying to get to sleep, it works and I will usually have good dreams of those memories. K

  34. I have increased my incline on my treadmill from 2.5 to 3% for the final 10 minutes of my 30 minute workout and speed is 3.3 mph. By the time I am done, sweat is dripping down my face, and my heart rate is in the 120’s. My resting rate is 55- 60. I usually go an extra 2 minutes, to make up for any short breaks, even though the breaks don’t count against my time. (When I pause the machine, and restart, it picks back up, from where it stopped.) I have stopped drinking sugared beverages, and only drink water, aside from my coffee in the morning. I start each day with a high protein weight loss shake. I am definitely eating less than 1500 calories a day, and burning 250, during my workout. I am hoping to see some progress in my weight loss goal. We shall see. I do know that slow and steady wins the race.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
