  7. I am in Texas, and the real estate market has gone crazy here too. My son started working on getting a real estate license after the pandemic hit. How funny, to spend so much money on a college degree (trust me I am not laughing) to see him forced to change careers. He is still working full time at his chosen profession (professional trainer) although things got really slow for a while. He thought it would be good to have a back up plan. The homes that are put up for sale go very fast, way over asking and always a bidding war. My home is paid off and I could make a small fortune but I would spend almost all of it to find a smaller home. K

  8. Thanks D2, It has been a joy, there are a few of us I call the oldtimers. I have been here 27 years. There are those who have been here longer and them there are the many special people we have lost over that time. Our little street only has 12 homes and we have had as many deaths over the years. Four couples that were here original owners of their homes and I few like me that were widowed over the years. Many of them the reason I have stayed after my husband passed. I should not be here in this great big house all alone, I should let it go to a young family but I can't bear the thought of leaving. One of the reasons we bought it was, if our parents were to need care, we would have the space to provide for them. The only one that had to come was my Mom (who already been moved to the next street over) and this was after my husband had passed. There for a little while I had four generations together in this house. Bet you did not expect such a long answer. That is what insomnia does for you. K

  10. Julia, I am so sorry you are going thru this after 2 1/2 months with your quit. I am only in 11 days, I am using a NRT, lozenges. I thought these would do better than the patch, it felt I might have more control over my step down. I have already started and find I can go 4 or 5 hours. What I am doing is putting the lozenge in my mouth, setting the kitchen timer of 2 minutes and then I take it out and put it on a saucer. When I get anxious couple to few hours later, repeat the procedure. I feel this is working pretty good for me so far. I do get very agitated at times. I suffer from depression anyway so was already on medication. I do not know your situation but if you are new to antidepressants if can take a few times (different medications that agree and work for you) you might just need a different med or adjustment in dosage. I will say I have encountered kick back from my insurance carrier because they don't want to keep paying for different meds till you find the right one. I am sorry but sounds like the Doc does not want to battle them to help you find the right med. It also sounds like the patch might not be the right NRT for you. Keep researching, if you feel the Doc is not paying attention or does not want to help, you may have to fight the insurance or consider changing Docs. It is like non-smokers have no idea how painful and difficult it is for us to quit. That angers me most of all. Don't judge us when you have no f........... idea. K

  11. Dear Abby, I am still confused about the "stinking badges" and I am more than happy to let Jillar and Doreen to keep on keeping on with their thing. I can confirm that D2 is good at conversation and I did get my bread to the neighbors today. I will try to stay up all night and play if you three want to but I have an early morning visit to the doctor. Are ya'll just funning me? If you are I will torture you when I learn the rules. K

  13. Haven't started a thread in maybe 4 years, some months I think - like never. So I need to practice what I preach and boldly go where timid folks have not gone before ... and start a thread. Whew, that's a huge one. I have new respect for folks who can start threads like eating candy. (ps. please please promotion gods, notice I have started a thread).

  18. Welcome, @Anne E.! Start reading people’s stories. I found them the most helpful. We all know smoking is bad for us. It was everyone’s individual journey that gave me insight, and the courage to continue my own. Pick a quit date, decide if you need NRT, and just do it. We accept all quitters, no matter the method they choose. Stick around. There is a lot of support here.

  22. Exercise is a great natural mood booster. It doesn't need to be an intense workout, could just be a brisk walk-around. Anything that gets your heart rate up. Exercise is also a great way to deal with unwanted weight gain. Two birds, one stone.

  25. Good luck, @Kris! It was my Cardiologist who insisted I quit, though he did not offer any advice on how to go about it, so I was on my own. I hope you have better luck with your Doc.

  26. Where I come from I may be planning a bank robbery, a diamond heist or the take over of a pizza joint. Let's go with the third. I hope it means that I am being supportive and wish the best for all of you because you have given the best to me. Thanks Kris

  27. Acewhite If we do the diamond heist and get caught we will go to prison. We don't want that. I did not say smoke a pizza joint I said take over a pizza joint. I see where you are going with your idea, I could explain it to you but it will still wind up with a trip to the jail. Let's just stay with the take over, as Oprah would say, you get extra cheese and you get extra cheese. If the cops show up we just tell them Oprah forgot to pay the bill and we are covered! Don't you just love to be bad and have it turn out good. K

Comes from a humphrey bogart movie something called Sierra madra or close to that. there is a scene where bogart and his buds are surrounded by these guys who claim to be federalies, so bogart asks them where are your badges and in a deep mexican accent the reply,,,,"Badges!!! we dont need no stinkin badges!!!" gun fight ensues. A got to see movie

  31. Answer away @Kris. I sleep late as well plus tomorrow (or today now) is a holiday so I could go really late. I can see the board has been good for you in some ways. Generally, when people post often, it's usually a good sign that the quit will be successful. Doesn't mean that quiet people will not but, you know, generally. Not sure which part of the world you're from but house prices here are through the roof.

  33. @Gus, Sounds like you may be starting to enjoy the job a tiny little bit. If that's the case then isn't it wonderful. I remember the day you posted when you were still interviewing.

  34. Hi Julia hoping this gets easier for you- YES smoking is worse than anything and the process takes some time to get through and ridding yourself of nicotine is part of it. Im no Dr (although I did stay in a Holiday Inn once) so I cant question your Docs thought process for suggesting the patch again

  36. @Kris, sorry you're having trouble playing videos. Group therapy helps lots of people so hopefully you'll find it helpful too. I've never seen an in person quit smoking support group. And if that's the reason you're looking into it you may find it hard to find in your area too. Please remember that you smoked for 40 years! So to expect to be free of this addiction in your first month or few quit just isn't realistic. Especially if you're still using NRTs. We feel it takes a full year to get past most of the triggers a year can bring. And really no one knows better how to succeed then a group of former smokers who have right?! You can expect to feel uncomfortable and have pretty good craves at the minimum for the first month. My whole first year was hard, but doable because I listened to all those who came before me. I'm glad you're staying because I feel like you need us more then ever, we got your back girl!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
