  6. Congrats on 3 weeks Richard. For me personally, once I got to three weeks I felt I had crossed a threshold. That was the point where I knew I had invested a lot of effort and did not want to throw it all away. The thought of having to start over and go through those 3 weeks all over again just wasn't an option. There were still some struggles after 3 weeks, but I knew there was no going back. I'm so glad I drew that line in the sand......hope it's the same for you.

  7. Congratulations on your quit. I have taken baths every night for the last 50 plus years. Not sure why you think having a daily bath is a problem? Is there something I don't know lol. I bought really expensive bath products and body lotions like Estée Lauder, gucci etc when I quit. I smelt so good that I wouldn't have wanted to cover that smell with smoke. I also bought strong washing liquid and softener for my clothes. Smelling nice was a big part of why I never lit up.

  14. Exercise and deep breathing got me through those moments when I felt irritable or let myself get all wound-up during the early days of the quit. I don't even remember the last time I wanted a cigarette but still use the deep breathing exercises I learned when I quit daily. Taking a little pause for the cause and breathing intentionally is just a good way to get yourself centered again. I don't want to make light of the flatulence situation, but I'm not really sure how much worse my farts were when I quit. Our sense of smell is improving at the same time our digestive system is adjusting. Not sure if the farts are worse or if they're just magnified by our improved ability to smell things.

  23. This made me laugh so much because it is just typical smoker thinking. Having a heart attack and switching to organic food was my favourite lol. You are so right in that the real test is when you feel better. I didn't smoke for a week once bed ridden with a cold. When I recovered it was only a matter of time (I'm talking 2 hours max) before I forgot how I'd been feeling and was back to smoking. My advice is to reach out here when you feel at your weakest. That is when you find out how powerful this place is.

  25. Absolutely what happened to me Michelle. One fine morning, I came to work (where I would primarily smoke) and decided today is the day I stop buying and smoking them. Just like that. Of course there were challenges, but yeah it was just like a switch had flipped in my brain. Good job on taking that call. Looking forward to celebrating your milestones with you.

  26. Welcome aboard the QT, George! So sorry to read that your wife has passed due to lung cancer.....I have a friend just recently diagnosed with it...and it is something those of us with long smoking histories will have to be vigilant about by getting the low-dose lung scan every year. Read everything you can here and check out the Joel videos...and participate in the forums...you will find support for yourself here and help support others on this journey!

  29. Richard, you are dealing with so much right now, so please give it some time. You will feel better the further you get away from smoking. We all used smoking when we were nervous because we felt it would calm us. It was more of a mental thing and never really did do the job. As far as the anxiety, I have dealt with that my entire life. I have panic disorder and panic attacks. I have never taken xanax but take a half of a clonzapam (1/2 mg in the morning and 1/2 mg at night). I have done this for years and it controls the panic. I would not take yourself off these meds because most of them you should be weaned off. As far as the opioid scare, as long as you take the medication as recommended there is nothing to worry about. I believe you are past the hell week and should have the nicotine out of your system. Remember quitting is also a mental thing. Your mind is trying to trick you into feeling you need those cigarettes. You need to learn a way to redirect your thinking. Don't let those thoughts overtake your quit. Just keep the thought of your improved life and health for most in your thinking. You are going to come out of this journey so much better. Keep posting and reaching out. We will be there for you. Hang in there.

  30. Hi Richard. I remember early in my quit I was so caught up in my quit I was forgetting to take my anxiety meds. And when I realised I was like oh maybe I can manage ok without them! But within a few days my anxiety was through the roof! So went back on them. And felt much better for it. I normally remind people to remember to take any medication they normally take! As a quit is all consuming and it can be easy to forget. Is there is reason you are cutting back on your meds on purpose? If you are feeling crappy I'd maybe not cut back. Or maybe talk to your doctor about it. But I appreciate you know you best and what's best for you. How are you feeling today? Hope it's a better one for you

  31. C Cheers BKP - If you want something enough then you'll do it, so I've always believed it's just my body/mind seems to work against me sometimes, it's just gone 6am here and feeling more positive again, I think my mind gives me a downer from time to time, maybe it's the addictive part trying to make me smoke again, I don't know, in the past I've had a miserable moment and used it as an excuse, it's not working this time so I'm sticking 2 fingers up to the little devil inside if you see what I mean? He sneaks up on me though when I least expect it. Got up to take the dog for a good walk but it's bucketing down today so he'll have to wait, still bloated, still flatulating [is that a word] but at least I've been able to moan about it somewhere, it's appreciated. For a treat I'm off out today for a bit of retail therapy - time to buy some new clothes - thanks again

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
