  8. I had a craft show today, sometimes if it's a show close to her house, my sister will come halfway through the show to give me a bathroom break - (and used to be a smoke break, too). She came in and sat down & the smoke smell nearly gagged me! I looked around because I felt like my fellow crafters sitting beside & behind me were probably ready to hurl also. Normally it doesn't bother me at all. I was actually embarrassed. The smell dissipated after awhile, but YUCK. I sure am glad I never smelled like that!!!!!!

  11. Hello Cristobal. I'm doing well. Still going strong. The thoughts are still there regarding wanting to have another but I remember what I felt like when I last did and the feelings I went through when I did have them. The thoughts are happening less now and are less intense when they do happen so that's progress already. I never entered this quit thinking everything would be plain sailing although after a few months it did seem to be going that way before coming back down to earth with a bang. I'm just going to keep taking each day as it comes. Keep winning the little battles.

  12. Congratulations @KT1973 for being smoke free for 10 months. Well done on reaching your double figure quit celebration. 10 months is a big one, double figures, nice solid base for the rest of your life smoke free. You should be so proud of how far you have come. Big celebrations are called for with being into the double figures.

  13. Growing up in a house where both parents smoked. The house and everything in it (including me) had a stale smoke odor, and sickly yellow tint. My mom tried to explain that yellow tint as the furnace, my dad however was under no delusions as to what caused it. When my parents had relatives/guests over for a party, most of whom smoke, the smoke would practically fog up the house and pre-teen/non-smoking me would feel slightly nauseated at the end of the night (it's hard to believe the smoke detectors didn't go off). Even after starting to smoke myself, I hated that smell/look. I always tried to smoke outside, to avoid having the odor and yellow discoloration in my home and on my stuff. I never smoke in my car either. When I quit I was thankful that there was no odor to deal with while I was in withdrawal. After my parents passed away, me and my sister rented the house, but first we did some renovations, and the first thing we did was hire a cleaning company to clean and remove the odor. They scrubbed down every accessible surface to do it, but the results were amazing. The house no longer had the stale smoke smell, the walls and windows no longer had a yellowish tint and it was a very noticeable absence to both of us. Everything else, carpet, curtains etc. was removed and trashed. We tried to sell the furniture but it was old (and smelly) and ended up in the trash also. My question is, once you quit took hold, what did you do to get rid of the odor in your house or car?

  15. Congratulations @Kermit for being smoke free for 6 months. Well done on being half way to the first year of freedom. Best thing all day was seeing you log on after so long. I thought you were lost... but NOPE, you just got all busy using all the wonderful smoke free time you have... never been so happy to be wrong. So for all you hard work, for being an official 50%er you deserve a big celebration so make sure you reward yourself for all your work.

  19. We both smoked indoors...before we knew better...then we only smoked outside... It took years to get rid of the smell..all the furniture has been changed now...and the walls have been painted a good few times... I think I've got rid of all traces of nicotine..

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
