  8. It is hard to watch you torture yourself, Juan. You deserve to be free of this addiction. Please get ready to be uncomfortable for a while. I think you are making this a bigger deal than it is. Just pour your sincerity and integrity into your NOPE.

  12. No pressure cooker allowed in my house - electric or otherwise. Both myself and the wife have been witness to P-cooker explosions (separate incidents before we ever met). Mine was beets - aftermath was NOT pretty. Kitchen looked like a mass murder scene Oh damn! Just wasted a good one for 2 Truths & a Lie

  13. My grandmother used to call that a "crotch pot." And she wasn't trying to be funny. She also used to call the trunk of the car "the turtle." That expression led to some really confused bag boys at the grocery store.

  17. Pressure cookers are only salty if you add salt, the method of cooking doesn't impart salt. I haven't had one since the old days loved it and had no problem until I couldn't find parts like @Cbdave. You should check out the new ones, for sure. Technology is our friend, innit ? Well, there was that one incident...guests coming for dinner. Taking artichokes out of pressure cooker and couldn't get thefucker open....guests waiting and hammer no help.

  18. right and food retains a lot more nutritional value at pressure. @jillar this contraption can also cook like a crockpot or crotch pot as, Mama @Boo used to say. ( I LOVE Boo's Mama) @reciprocity how long ago was this ? Was it a modern one that blew up ? They are a lot less scary then they used to be. They try to avoid error and shut down. Plus, you aren't messing with a live flame. I'm going to like this very much. I am v. into making deep flavorful broths...then make glace or some sauce. The beans are the best...tender and creamy and still have some integrity. Very impressed. The Test Kitchen will try yoghurt this weekend.

  19. The instapot has an automatic pressure release on it. Before I bought it, I thought about buying an old pressure cooker at a flea market. I am glad I didn't. I never realized how long it took to cook a beet. I would cook them for the elderly woman I took care of. You had to boil that damn thing all day. It would only take me about an hour in the instapot!

  21. First craving of the day, with coffee. Was going to have green tea, but forgot to steep it in cold brew fashion last night. Coffee it is. Imagining smoking and how satisfying it would be to relieve the discomfort of this change in ritual and drug withdrawal. Continued with the imagery, though, on to having cataracts and being blind, losing my job and home, and dying young with my kids grieving. By the time I was finished imagining, the craving passed. Left me in a blue mood, though. Going to imagine something more uplifting next craving.

  26. Allen Carr was very instrumental in my quit as well. It help me focus on how smokers smoke because they are feeding an addiction. The book made me question if I really enjoyed the act of smoking. It is possible I did early on but I grew to hate it in my past few years as a smoker. There is a chapter in that book titled, "The Advantages of Being a Smoker" and it is a blank page. There are really no positives to smoking at all. There are a lot of positives to quitting though. Once I realized that smoking offered nothing positive for me and quitting offered a much better life, it really helped me quit for good.

  27. You know what? Ever since I quit I have only looked at people smoking with pity. Knowing they probably would like to quit, or at least have at some point, but there they stand - slaves to their addiction; still! I often wonder how many people looked at me in that light when I was a smoker? You're right though. Smoking is looked at through a different lens. That IS changing now though. You are looked upon as undesirable now if you're a smoker, at least in most circles.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
