  1. 3 months today Still hanging on there despite some touchy situations that normally would have me reaching for a cigarette. I do believe today that there isn't just one cigarette, or puff even, and in very short order I would be back to my usual smoking behaviour if I believe the lie that I can "just have one". My apologies if I don't post here to often. There are folks here who do a far better job of sharing their experience and hope than I could just at this moment. I will though keep posting when I can and especially when I hit a target date if only to demonstrate to anyone who is struggling that if I can do it so can they . Many many thanks for all your support and kind words.

  4. Nice work Midmale. Sorting through the lies we told ourselves and accepting the truths we didn't necessarily want to hear is a major part of the process. Congratulations. You are building a rock-solid quit for yourself.

  12. HI! Please don't think that Chantix is your last chance at quitting. As long as you are still breathing you have a chance of quitting. I'm on my seventh quit this year and I'm not about to quit trying. Who knows, we might make it at some point! Don't give up on it! Take Care and Cheer Up!

  13. Congratulations on stopping smoking, Matthew! Definitely stay away from the drink if it makes you crave. I did early on. You know how alcohol ruins most people's good intentions. Not worth it! You're almost done with hell week, Matthew. Great going!

  18. No, I wouldn't pay for it! I found a link to it. Read it 3 times. From everything I'd heard about it, I thought I had missed something. Don't get me wrong, it's a good read for some extra motivation. He makes some very good points. But there is no magic trick there, you still have to quit for yourself by a comment made to yourself. Good Luck! I hope your quit is still going well!

  21. Linda, it’s never your last chance. You just aren’t feeling up to it today. Tomorrow or the next day will be different. You are struggling because it IS a struggle. It’s tiring...that’s what I had to post about yesterday. Plus, you’re still having withdrawals. Don’t lose hope. If I could, I would come to your house and sit with you on the day that you quit for good. Find a book that you’ve always wanted to read and save it for quit day/week. Be gentle with yourself when buying and preparing food. Babysit a toddler that needs your undivided attention 24/7. Know that time passes differently and you may actually lose track of it. Treat yourself in small ways. Nap during the day when you can’t sleep at night. Be your own friend. Don’t think about how long it’s going to be before the cravings go away. Just know that it will get better. It’s not for sissies. My doctor told me that it’s right up there with quitting heroin. Imagine that for just a minute. You got this far; your brain has been leading you here. Relax a little; you’re doing everything you should be doing. Everyone does not have the same journey but we all want to get to the same place. Want to borrow my 18 month old grandson? That’s the only thing that kept me sane at first. He’s so much work. He’s the only thing that kept me totally absorbed my first week.

  24. Matthew, I couldn't help but to chime in here. I am a recovering alcoholic. Been sober for over 3 years now. I don't know about you, but I could not drink and quit smoking. I have had some luck at quitting smoking without drinking. I don't understand it, but the two just seem to go together for me. I could never quit smoking while drinking a six pack every evening. I wish you Luck with your quit!

  28. Keep it simple Mick. There is only one incontrovertible rule in building a successful quit: DON'T SMOKE! Adhere to that one rule and you're good to go.

  29. Hi All Well I'm still here, smoke free and a bit battered and bruised psychologically but a bit wiser too I hope. I think I made the mistake of underestimating this addiction and complacency set in a little, ignoring triggers, feeling sorry for myself and not appreciating what I have etc. and I paid the price. I have decided to up my game, change my attitude and also to try and keep all this in the day and recognise and enjoy the small victories. I'm sure you have probably told me this anyway so forgive me for not paying attention I seem to have to seriously suffer before I do anything about it but I'm doing my best to change that. A wiser person than me said once that we only tend to change when were at the precipice of something, so I'm trying to open up my ears and mind to what you people are telling me and applying it to me and my quit. Thank you all for your wisdom and advice. It means a helluva lot to me

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
