I'm not one to nitpick over semantics. However, I will always remind our newer quitters that the choice is theirs; always has been, always will be. Cigarettes have as much or as little power as we give them. You've made a wise choice Jeff, keep marching forward.5 points

Glad your sis is past her surgery and on the mend. This Covid thing is screwing up a lot of other stuff, that's for sure. Hopefully your sister sees her 'smoke free' hospital stay as a good head start on quitting as well but what you said before is true. People are ready when they're ready themselves. We can only gently encourage them I suppose.3 points

Thank you Jillar. It’s been terrifying, her aneurysm was big, should have been operated on months ago, and I know she was terrified of it rupturing, so smoked to “ease” her stress. I read it’s one of the worst things to do with an aneurysm as it affects your arteries. I tried to get her to stop, but I guess we all stop when we are ready and not when others are worried about us. While she’s been. In hospital obviously she can’t smoke, so that/has given her a good start. I just hope she carries it on. Hopeing she will be greatful for a fresh start and quit and keep healthy.3 points

Welcome aboard Gus. Good call on giving up the smokes. Just go with it. The process of quitting smoking rips us right out of our comfort zone and forces us to deal with some things we used to sweep under the rug. Withdrawals, nagging thoughts, and inconvenient truths can strip you down to the bare bones. The journey can be a little rocky in the beginning, but the destination is worth the trip.3 points

Oh Geez .... a girl Gus eh? Humm ............ OK, don't both with the chicks or sticks game then. It's no fun anyway By the way, good job fighting your way through another day. They tend to be long ones in the early stages of your quit. Hang in though; it does get better3 points

Feeling so relieved my sister had her long awaited operation for an aortic aneurysm . Due to covid she has had to wait almost a year for it, and i have been so stressed it would rupture and I may lose her. She had an 8 hour operation last Tuesday and has just come out of ICU and on to a general ward. She is in a lot of pain, I spoke to her yesterday for a few minutes. Hopefully she will go home in a couple of days. I pray now she will quit smoking. Yes she was still smoking with the aneurysm, madness!!! The power of this addiction is appalling! Life is better without cigarettes, and I have proved great stress can be handled without smoking. Thank god I am free of this horrible addiction.2 points

Hello Gus, Welcome to the train, and Congratulations on your 9 day quit, that is so fabulous it’s great to have you here, and you will get brilliant support here. have a look at Joel Spitzers Videos, they are a great source of information and encouragement in the early days. I too was very emotional when 8 first quit, it is very strange at first being without that crutch, that we used for so many years. life will be even better soon I promise. stay determined!1 point

@Boo You are correct! I should not have used the word fate. I used it as an excuse. I don't buy into that way of thinking about most things, so I shouldn't have used it here either. I'll try to think of a better word, or better way of saying it. Thanks!1 point

Ach, smoking costs so much money. When I quit, I invested money in the stock market that I would have otherwise would have spent on cigarettes. After eight months, I sold them to pay off a credit card. My stocks were up 85%. My friends who are sitting on the fence, it isn't just the health benefits that you reap, it's the financial benefits. Take the money you would have spent on cigarettes and open a brokerage account. Most of them do not charge commissions now. Investigate some basic stocks, like Apple, Paypal, Google, Shopify, Facebook, etc. Get a brokerage that will allow you to buy fractional shares. That means, you can buy $10 of a Facebook stock. You don't have to buy the whole share. A pack of cigarettes could buy you a fractional share of Tesla. If you want to buy into a new company, check with Jeremy on Financial Education on YouTube. (I hope I'm not breaking any rules here.) There is so much life to live without cigarettes! If you're hooked on cigarettes, explore getting hooked on investing in stocks or something else for your future! Do you love art? Invest in some brushes and paints and canvasses! This is just my own success story. Now it's your turn to write yours. Share your story of how you quit smoking and turned your attention to something else that is life-affirming. I'd love to hear from you!1 point
