Posting "doom and gloom" posts...

Featured Replies

Hmmm... I´ve been having such a hard time lately. And I´ve been posting about it.

I´m always reluctant to post these "doom and gloom" comments, or even an SOS, in fear that newbies (as in "more newby" than myself) or lurkers may be put off or discouraged or they may doubt their quits...

In the other hand I myself have risked my own quits for not asking for help. In fact I have "lost" a few short quits because I didn´t want to show my face here until I was a few weeks, or a few days, into my quit, and the result was that those few days, let alone few weeks, never happened...

I don´t know...

I would like to have your views on this... off the record

Isn't that what this site is about? Giving and receiving support while quitting a highly addictive drug? Everyones quit is different and I think that it is great to read the good, bad, and the incredibly ugly. It gives newbies a wider range of what happens and may discourage a relapse of someone who had an easier quit.

I think you should post them - if you don't post, we can't help. And newbies need to that quitting isn't all roses, it's hard, but it's possible. Newbies need to know that they set the only ones suffering. They also need to be able to see someone having a hard time, yet still not smoking! And they need to see us supporting each other

And most of the above points don't refer to just newbies either, but everyone ;)

Awww, this why we are here.....we want you to post, and we want to help.......

It's a support forum......we love giving support......

Post away sweetie......and make this your sticky quit......

It only takes one thing to be said that makes the difference to a newbie.....

I think every post brings something to the board......

Hugs

Quitting smoking sucks and it is hard and it sucks.

That my friend is no secret shared by only us.

If you want it...you will pay for it... but it is soooooooooooooooooo worth it.

If anything you are educating the newbs on what to possibly expect.

Post all the doom and gloom you want... just stay on task and don't smoke...that is what we all want for you.

Keep on keepin on.

I speak for myself of course but I actually stay on this forum because I want to help.  I think all newbies are terrified and excited anyway, else they're not ready. I also felt no problem seeing others struggle, it meant I was still ok when it happened to me as I'd seen them go through it.

I saw others struggle, it warned me what was coming and I actually think I got an easier ride at times for seeing how people dealt with it. They already had tips and advice. Others breezed through and I was just happy they did and could.

For you, from what it sounds like you've been through (multiple quits) what I think you need is a REAL quit. A warts and snot but also a rainbow and joy quit...to me that's more real than the mystical easy peasy quit.

One more thing. I would rather support you in this quit, then inspire someone who may or may not hack it as a lurker! You are real and on course right now!!  They are still a maybe and as such will be making their own decisions in their own time.  Remember when you smoked, no one could make you carry on and no one could make you quit??  Well that still applies now, your struggles and joys can only give reality and hope when you acheive to those who may or may not choose to follow behind you.

xx

I vote for you to post, warts and all!

Someone could be quit, it's so 'not like the book' said, what's wrong, is it me? They google key words that they're feeling, find folk going through the same shitty detox or same crappy mental fear, connect and it can make all the difference. As I say post away, this ain't the Disney Channel and real people feel 'real' physical and/or mental detox.

A support forum is kinda useless if no one asks for support...keep posting!

Not at all, dont be silly, thats one of the reasons we are here is to help anyone that needs help.

Never hold back or hold off on posting an sos, right now all that matters is you and your quit, only worry about doing whatever it takes for you to stay quit, post anytime you need to x

Bring me your doom and gloom.

Rant.

Scream.

Swear.

Blame me personally

...just don't smoke. All of the above are fine if they help. That's why the site exists.

post post post!

i believe the people who post good and bad times help so many unseen others aswell, as some people just cannot post and your post could help with the replies you get from so many different experiences that one at least will click with you or someone else

before most people quit there are these horror stories and most people think its like that for all quitters

some have it easy, some have it really hard but by posting and replying, the easy route may shine through

post post post - may our education begin :)

You know what, Susana?

By you posting this, I realise I have been that way.

I don't like to post when things are off unless my ass is about to fall off completely.

Hmm...even then I sometimes don't.

This gives me alot to think about.

Most of all, however, I think you should post about whatever you need to and feel may help you not smoke. You have got this, woman!! :)

Life isn't all sunshine and cupcakes.  Infact, some days just SUCK!  Post away!

As the others said, we will not be much of a support forum if we pretend.

Quitting isn't always pretty. To portray it as such is a great disservice.

Everyone's quit is different and being able to read SOS and warts and all posts is refreshing because its honest and true, we don't want to sugar coat our quits, because they are what they are sometimes difficult, sometimes emotional, sometimes happy and hysterical, they are a journey one in which we grow and sharing how you are feeling is all part of that so please don't ever think about not posting an SOS or anything xx

only unicorns and rainbow farts allowed. or was that the other place?

oh gosh Susana....no way!!    That's why we are here!  I would welcome a thousand rants over 1 stupid puff!!

the "P" in NOPE stands for PUFF..NOT POST.  :)

that's what we are here for  Susana if it was easy  to quit everbody would quit it is doable  no it not always easy but what is post all that you need to we are here with you we are all in this together  newbies neeed to know what to expect

It's just reality, Susana.  Want to keep your quit?  Keep posting because when we stop and internalize all the issues is when we run into trouble.  At least that has been the case with myself.

Around here we like to say "whatever it takes to quit" and you can take that literally.  Posting the good the bad and ugly not only helps you but it helps others and you will never know how many people you help in the process.

Don't you ever think that you have to hold back around here, ever.  You owe it to yourself. :)

Bring me your doom and gloom.

Rant.

Swear.

I agree!

What Beacon said - never feel afraid / wrong about posting - posting often definitely helped my quit !

Sister!!!!! :give_heart:

If we lose the freedom to post whatever or be "policed" for speaking freely then screw it. If I wanted to belong to a quit site like that I would of tried harder NOT to be booted from the other site. People should be mature enough to understand that not every day is easy or a picnic when quitting. :dash2:  :dash2:

Seeing a negative post and then seeing how you came through the other side stronger...is more helpful than I am a happy non-smoker that never thinks about smoking.  You know those stories, teenager bullied, overcomes and becomes the hero of the story.  That's you kicking Nico-bully's butt, but on a forum not in a book.  Someone will see you how you made it through and that is such an inspiration, watching other people do what they once thought they couldn't do.
