  1. Howdy! Quit cold turkey 9/26/2016. It has been one helluva ride. Made it through turbulent waters and now I'm coasting in laminar flow. Early on, I relied on (too heavily probably-)the words/poetry of Mike Piano and Bassman Two gents from another site. Newbies should find soft landing here Stay awhile and nurture your quit. Some quitters prefer a more hard-ass approach. Not me. It was not as easy as Allen Carr promised. Some days, the craves crashed over me. I nearly drowned. But I did not. Every so often I feel a twinge. An ache. A temptation. Nostalgia's whisper is a scream. I vowed NOPE from day 1 of my forever quit. I've kept that promise. As for the picture -- for those that know me, know that I haven't figured out how to post those clever mimes, gifs, crap whatever y'all call it... Yep to NOPE! L4L
  2. Holy shit Jillar!! WTF!?!? What a scary week!! I’m glad you took action. Good on hubby too for calling ambulance. Rest & recover friend! XOXO L4L
  3. I’ve been off line for a bit- I’m sorry to hear you’re not feeling well Jillar. Please rest & recover. We’ll look forward to seeing you back here when you’re better!
  4. Woo-hoo!! You survived the roller coaster ride, held onto the rope through turbulent waters & unyielding winds. You have safely landed on the Lido!! Welcome aboard & congratulations!!
  5. Happy New Year to my fellow crew of non smokers and soon to be non smokers! Wishing you all good health, happiness & harmony!
  6. Congratulations Jonny 5 on 8 !!
  7. Yep to NOPE!!! Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays!
  8. Great post and super cute pic! Merry Christmas!
  9. I’ve been following. I have a dear friend - an ex-pat that has intentionally been transplanted to and has flourished in Oz- who posts regular updates w pictures. I grieve w Australia.
  10. Congratulations abbynormal! 11 months is super!
  11. Hello fellow quitters and lurkers! For those residing in the US, the most wonderful time of the year is upon us. We are scheduled to grossly overeat a week from today. More than usual. While doing so, we will be giving thanks for: our perfect families, the variety of enchanting edibles available to all guests. This includes gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian, nut- free, organic, non-lumpy gravy, red white and rosé offerings from the cellar, mashed cauliflower, stuffing and/or dressing with and without cornbread, with and without oysters, with and without pecans. Cranberry sauce from a can & some homemade. We rejoice to sample the doctored brussels sprouts sautéed in duck fat with charred gizzards (I don’t think charred gizzards is a thing. I added for even more dramatic effect). Your football team will win Saturday! We celebrate our hard working co-workers. We enjoy delightful conversations with kind strangers in the 10 mile long line at the grocery store. Holiday cheer is real and abounds in our hearts and homes. We bought the perfect gifts for everyone on clearance last year so we have extra cash and no gift buying stress. If your life is this easy going with zero holiday stress- congratulations !! You are super human and I need your autograph! Forced family functions, imbibing in too much merriment, living through the season when someone you loved and lost is not- are all fuel that could send you to the store for that one pack to get you through it all. Or, the kindling to bum a smoke from your boss at the holiday party. Have your plan in place. Newbies and old phartes (more seasoned quitters) are both at risk for losing a quit to stress, to feeling nostalgic for past celebrations. Don’t lose your quit. Embrace it. Celebrate it. Protect it. Be thankful for it!! Gobble til you wobble. Watch the game. Don’t smoke. NOPE!! L4L
  12. You’ll find a familiar mantra here- one day at a time. You’ll also find valuable insight and support here. Welcome!
  13. Hi Tigermatt- Are you still with us?
  14. Welcome back kazza! I’m sorry to hear of your health troubles. Get ready to get to work!! We are here to support you again every step of the way! —L4L
  15. Hi. I’m L4L and I’m a former “closet” smoker. @abbynormal I know exactly what you are referencing in this great post. Guilt? check. Shame? check. Embarrassment? check. Joy? I guess I was joyful my withdrawal craves were calmed by smoking...
  16. Great job Vivianne on 1 month of smobriety! ! Keep up the good work!
  17. Oh no! Sorry to hear you're not feeling like yourself. Whatever the ailment - I wish you an uncomplicated, speedy, and full recovery!
  18. You’re not doing it wrong. You’re doing it right!!! You posted SOS!! Keep talking yourself through this bit of darkness. Take the shower- sing & scream in the steam - NOPE!! You are stronger than that pull from the devil.
  19. Being prepared is a great start for the weekend- and you are! The first few weekends were really tough for me. I’m glad you have recognized the possible challenges you may face & have a plan to thwart the demons that often accompany nicotine withdrawal. Projects are good - so is rest. Anything but smoking! You got this...
  20. @Hope2Nope I, too, have thought about leaving. Then, I read something posted by a newbie and I’m reminded of my former self. Or, I see a celebration of some sort - especially a fellow 2016 Butt-Kicker- and I am inspired to stick around offer applause and support as I’m able. Like you- support from a forum helped my quit so much!!
  21. Hi H2N!! Congratulations on 3 years of smobriety!!
  22. I fully believe the concept of one day at a time sets the foundation for an everlasting quit. Like you- the thought of never smoking again freaked me out if I looked too far ahead. It is much more manageable to wake up and say “I will not smoke today” and then don’t smoke. Give yourself a pat on the back, go to bed. Wake up and repeat! One day becomes one week which becomes one month, two months etc... Congratulations on reclaiming your life and resetting your priorities !!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
