On this day the USA celebrates its National Jo(e) Appreciation Day.... where all things Jo or Joe should be celebrated... coincidentally this falls at the half way mark to my birthday so it is now my new second favouritest day..... make sure you spare a minute to appreciate some Joe (i think they mean coffee, not the people) or Jo.... but more importantly today is also the Quit Trains Anniversary.... which if you know anything about MQ is also a little but coincidinks that it falls on Joe Appreciation day (coffee addicts unit).... but seriously without the QT and its wealth of easily accessed information and the depth and love of the support provided by those that ride this train many of us would not now be living successful smoke free lives... so on this very important day I say thank you to everything good, bad and coffee that bought about the QT... I for one am forever grateful... oh and I also say.... NOPE... not today, not tomorrow, not ever, forever!9 points

Happy Birthday, bakon. You left a trail in your celebrations. I found someone's pumps, a silk scarf and an empty carton of eggs outside your car. I'll be glad to return them but, I'm keeping the little leather crop and the shiny badge.8 points

day 6 in progress kind of an insignificant day so far. i did not cough today, not even the light kind of cough. did not really feel any crave that registered so i may or may not have had craves and if i did they were really insignificant and i did not even feel them. i feel a bit hungrier and thirstier than usual. what i have done today is that if my body feels like a steaming cup of black coffee i drink milk instead. the game is to deny my mind or body or whoever is calling the shots to realize that they are no longer in command. doing this so that tomorrow in the open world these guys are so well trained by then and that they dare not step out of line. i do not know if its right but i want the body to realize that there are no more free lunches. you want this , do that for me - plain and simple. so far so good. any urge to smoke - an emphatic NO. any disgust at the thought of smoking - a big affirmative - YES. overall like i said - a non descriptive day really and on seconds thoughts - the easiest day of my quit so far. looking forward to the slaughter of my first week ever smoke free. that will feel huge.5 points

Spent most of yesterday reading aloud to my marvelous man. We were tending to burn piles on the property. Lovely spring day for it. Saw a white squirrel. First time I have ever seen one. I seem to be grumpy and dumpy... declaring aloud often , " I do not smoke." Have stuck with exercise challenge (2 specific exercises) for 6 days. Limiting news intake. Eating more than my share. Have had chronic pain in my neck for several months. It feels as if steel bands have been installed and I have a very limited range of motion with my head. Some evenings I take PM ibuprofen and am very groggy the next morning into the day. Am feeling very' meh' in all things today. Am reticent in getting myself either out the door to walk with the cat or into the shower. grateful for... my digits - fingers that caress, pinch, grasp, hold, speak ASL, type, bathe, chop, paint, massage and toes that balance, stretch, wiggle, walk, dance healthy skeleton - teeth, jaw, spine, pelvis, clavical, cranium, ankles and wrists and all other skeletal pieces because a sturdy frame affords me strength of movement muscles - because they hold me together and allow me to lift, move, bend, carry, speak, eat, push and pull with ease healthy organs - because my digestion/elimination flows easily, my blood flows freely, oxygen circulates smoothly, my senses inform me of the physical environment the health of those I hold dear - because they are easily thriving my cats, Mani and Poof, - because they bring deep comfort, joy and a fair amount of silliness to life My marvelous man - because my needs to love and be loved are met, and he is really punny.... which leads to much laughter and groaning a beautiful nourishing home - because it feeds & frees my soul to live in the woods and have a sturdy house with many amenities that make life easy (w/d, dw, air/heat, plumbing, fridge, 2 bathrooms, garages) ... we've come a long way baby! lol knowing that things change - because this grumpy dumpy feeling and lethargy will not last forever; nor will the rapid spread of this virus or the stay at home directive (which when I think about it is ironic, as I have sometimes wished I could just hang out at home ... be specific when putting out there what you want... hang out at home (doing/creating art, playing with the pets, creating gardens, fishing, enjoying the company of family and friends), with full income and no one being ill due to a pandemic or other contagion or catastrophic event Freedom from smoking - because I am not a slave to an active nicotine addiction.... 16 plus days without any nicotine entering my body.... quit train - because "we all need a hand to hold onto" I am tired and ..... smoke free. Wow! head/habit aspects of addiction lurking and popping up ... nope, nope, nope. find ways to thrive people!4 points

Happy Birthday QTrain ! Here is one of the first posts from our fearless benefactor, @MarylandQuitter. Thank you so much for making this site possible. March 28, 2014 Quit Train®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact. This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits. We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking. Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits. This is not an environment where anybody will be judged as we only exist to offer education, support and acceptance. Through education and sharing experiences, we can all help each other to keep this nasty, deadly addiction out of our lives. We all want the same thing; to stay smoke-free and enjoy our lives of living as a non-smoker and all of the health benefits and freedom that it offers. Anybody can quit smoking and anybody can stay that way. It's a matter of finding a good combination of education and support to expose the lies of smoking in a comfortable, come as you are environment. We welcome all with open arms and hope that you can make this your safe haven to take your freedom back and get on with the business of living life as a non-smoker. ------------------------------------- This is a post that Joel used to use quite often at the Freedom From Nicotine Message Board before they implemented their no relapse policy. While it's no longer used at Freedom, it's a very insightful and an excellent message for all of us, especially those who have relapsed and most importantly, mirrors our ideology concerning relapse. A special thanks to Joel for allowing us to use this. I tried freedom once, why bother trying again? Some past participants have shown a certain reluctance to return to Freedom after relapsing back to smoking. Many are embarrassed to come back admitting failure. Others feel they tried Freedom once, and, since they went back to smoking, its techniques must not have worked for them, so why bother trying the same approach again? Still others feel it is an inconvenience and an unnecessary commitment of time and effort considering they "heard it all before." The concept of returning after a relapse may seem embarrassing at first, but, the ex-smoker will probably see quickly he is not alone. Many people have had past quits prior to joining Freedom and understand the fragility of a quit. They will generally understand and accept the presence of repeaters enthusiastically. Relapsers offer a strong confirmation of the concept of addiction to our old members and to all new participants. They often openly share their past experience of how, after initially quitting, they came to a point of complacency which allowed the relapse to occur. They generally reflect back at their non-smoking period as a time where they felt emotionally and physically better, and then openly express the disgust and misery that the relapse brought on. Not only did it cause embarrassment, physical discomfort, and maybe even serious health complications, but also, it was putting them through quitting all over again. Their insights offer a valuable lesson to first time participants not to make the one tragic mistake that could lead them back to smoking and the need for quitting over again--taking a puff on a cigarette. As far as it being an inconvenience, while reading and posting may take a chunk of time out of a smokers life the first few days, in all probability, there is nothing a smoker has to do the week that he or she is stopping that is as important as quitting smoking. Failure to touch base daily with us because of conflicts of time with social or even professional commitments makes about as much sense as a cancer patient skipping life saving chemotherapy treatments for the same events. Missing an entire day because of prior time commitments may jeopardize the quitting process or the long-term maintenance of smoking cessation. This may cost the person his or her life. In the long run, it will probably be viewed as an error in judgment by the patient as well as any significant others who recognize what was put at risk and what was lost in the process. For those who feel that Freedom didn't work, the fact is that the techniques taught here didn't fail, the smoker's implementation did. Only one recurrent theme runs through Freedom: if you don't wish to go back to smoking--NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF! No one ever went back to smoking without disregarding that rule. Relapsing is an automatic admission that the smoker disregarded the basic principal taught at Freedom. As far as feeling that "I've heard it all before," being a relapser is evidence enough that the smoker did not hear it or comprehend it all before, or is the type of person who needs to hear it over and over again in order to keep believing it. Repeaters are people who have trouble initially accepting or keeping the concept of addiction alive. This trait is in all probability the reason why the ex-smoker originally relapsed, or maybe didn't stop at all the first time. He or she reached a point of complacency where it was believed that smoking could be controlled at an acceptable level. Smoking is an all or nothing proposition. The repeater must recognize the reason for the past failure and learn from the experience. Otherwise, he or she will be doomed to repeat it over and over again. If you have gone back to smoking, come in and try again. Once you quit smoking, do everything in your power to stay off. Come in for continued reinforcement and witness the mistakes of other past participants who got complacent. As far as addiction goes, it is much better to learn from others' mistakes than having to attend later due to your own. You just don't know whether you will ever have the strength, desire, or opportunity to quit the next time. In today's society, failing to stay off smoking carries long-term risks which include loss of social status, and respect of others; financial implications which range from supporting an addiction costing hundreds to thousands of dollars per year as well as possibly costing your job and career; and, most significantly, eventual loss of health, and possibly loss of life. Considering all of this, the choice to quit smoking and to stay off is an important one. To keep the ability to stay off smoking you need to always remember to NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF! © Joel Spitzer, 2000 Edited July 1, 2018 by MarylandQuitter4 points

Yay, Irene. you are on the train. so glad you are here!! That addiction thinking just pops up everywhere. Lost cause? no such thing.4 points

Not a lost cause, just a work in progress. You destroyed the smokes now you need to work on destroying the myths and lies of smoking. The only problem solved by smoking a cigarette is the same problem that was created by smoking a cigarette. Break the cycle, set yourself free. Buckle up, knuckle down, and drive on.4 points

thank you my guardian angel, you are the wind beneath these wings. the way you guys pumped me up made me feel invincible and that scared the living day lights out of the smokey doodle. is it so simple to quit. or is this like one of those horror movies with a unexpected twist?. it feels llike such a shame for i lived in fear of a quit for so long. or was it that some fuse in my brain gave way and the light that that says - enough is enough lit up?. whatever i am so glad i googled and clicked this link best decision of my life. the icing on the cake was that i traded today. i was scared that if o began trading i would feel the craves. viola, another lie, lol. i traded so much better as i had no need to close the trade quick and rach out for a puff to celebrate the profit or whine away the loss. i feel more focused and the million dollar gift is this realization - i am a dog in disguise or a superhuman now with the power to smell anything, lol. trust me angel - when you stated the smell truth - it is so sad that no words can ever explain how it feels. superpower like to be honest. if excitement could grow a tail - i would have three by now, lol. the best things in life are free - never knew it was true - untill NOW. thank you all for the help you gave so selflessly and continue to do so. Even the thought of this quit ever losing is getting impossible to even conjour in my darkest illusions. i have the power - I am D-O-G-G-Y (lol, pardon the excess but the smells ?? wow !! )3 points
