  7. Well, I never thought I'd hear that people are turning to cigs to cure a vape problem! That is so ironic. I used one for a while in an attempt to quit cigs but I just ended up doing both. A big problem with e-cigs is that there's no natural stop point as there is with a real cig so folks puff away almost continually. It's cold turkey all the way with me.

  8. Welcome aboard, Christine. I smoked for 20 years too. When I first started smoking (back in college), I had quite a few smoking friends and it was a social thing to do (also a stupid thing). As I grew older, fewer and fewer of my friends smoked and it went from being a social habit to an anti-social one. It was something I grew ashamed of as well so I get the feeling of isolation that can came from being a smoker in a world that increasingly looks down on smoking. Life really does become better on many levels once you quit for good. Not having to worry about how you smell or how other people see you as a smoker is one of the many benefits. Stick around. Read up on nicotine addiction and participate in the forums. The support and knowledge here can really help you quit for good.

  14. Interesting article and not a surprise to me. Prior to quitting nicotine for good, I tried to switch to vaping from tobacco three times in an attempt to quit smoking. Each time I vaped for roughly two weeks before going back to smoking cigarettes. This is just my experience but I felt I was vaping a lot more than I was smoking since it was easier to vape than smoke and I didn't have that nasty smoker's smell. I got weird headaches and felt sick by consuming that much nicotine. I actually grew to feel worse by vaping than by smoking. The best way to freedom is to put all types of nicotine behind you for good.

  15. Welcome, Tony! Educating yourself about nicotine addiction really helps. The more you know about the addiction, the better prepared you are to beat it. Also, support helps a lot too. You can find both education and support here. Read up on addiction on this site and please feel to reach out if you are struggling. Quitting might be tough but it is doable and a smoke-free life is much better than the pain of continuing to smoke.

  18. Welcome aboard Christine. You've made a great decision to quit smoking. Some nerves and anxiety early in a quit are to be expected. With time, those feelings will cease and the only regret you will have is that you didn't quit earlier. Buckle up, knuckle down, and drive on.

  21. Hi everyone - I'm Christine, been smoking for more than 20 years. I'm totally embarrassed to say that, I have hid my smoking from many people in my life over the years. It's a disgusting habit... Never have felt proud of it, that's for sure. Only a few hours into my quit. I quit before, about ten years ago, for 6 months. I wish I had stayed quit then! Already feeling anxious and stressed. Best to all

  25. Pointers: Commit to the quit, go all in. Educate yourself about nicotine addiction; learning to spot the traps makes them easy to avoid. Keep it simple; quitting only requires that you stop putting things in your mouth and lighting them on fire. Encouragement: The process of quitting smoking is one of the best things you will ever do for yourself. The process will reward you many times over. The bothersome aspects of the quit are temporary while the benefits are permanent. And...the entire process is simple, you only have to stop putting things in your mouth and lighting them on fire. Did I mention how simple the process is? You can do this Tony. And I guarantee you that you will not regret the decision to quit.

  31. Welcome aboard Tony. There is a lot of information on this site that will help educate you on this quit and a lot of people that will support you the best they can online. My main pointers are to drink lots of cold water (and juice to help bring up your blood sugar), deep breathing techniques (here you can use the Jillar Air Cigarette -- a cut down straw cigarette size, it really helped me) and to come here often and use the NOPE pledge. Also commitment and focus go a long way. This can be done!!!

  32. Welcome to Quit Train tony950! This is a place where all quitters can share information, learn about nicotine addiction and get as much support as they want. You didn't give a lot of information about why you started again. Health issues should be a reason to stop smoking, not start up again so I'm a little confused on that. The real issue is that smoking or quitting is a choice. A choice that you have to make and stay will each and every day. We have a page here dedicated to daily NOPE (Not One Puff Ever) Many go to that page each and every day to pledge that they will not take even one puff for just today. If you do that every day then you will be quit for life. There is a ton of information on the various pages here Tony. I would highly recommend you read as many posts as you can and watch the Joel Spitzer videos. They cover every quit smoking topic you can imagine. Knowledge is power Tony! Gain the knowledge and you will empower yourself to remain quit. Know your enemy (nicotine addiction)!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
