Hey Rowly.

Great to see you. Don't sweat it.

Yes, you and me are a puff away from a pack a day.

Once you get into the swing of this quitting thing, there is no trigger bigger than an anniversary. Natural that you crave now.

You don't really want a smoke, it is just a deeply ingrained reaction. I had it too.

Grit your teeth, smile and thank your addiction for this timely reminder that this is a sneaky son of a bitch addiction.

You got this Rowly. No problem.

I'm sorry you are having such a difficult day.  That sucks....

Please don't smoke.  It won't help, I can promise you that.  If you smoke you'll only have regrets in which to add to how badly you are already feeling.  What's the point in that?  You've come so far!!  I can tell you that at more than 3 years out I don't get urges to smoke anymore.  Even when really stressed.  That will happen for you too if you give it more time and fight through these kinds of cravings/bad days.

Please let us know how you are doing.  We are here for you!

Rowly, please don't give up your beautiful quit!  You have struggled so hard!  Smoking will not improve one thing about your bad day, except to make you feel worse than you do now.  We will always be addicts, but we will not always think of smoking as our go to solution for everything.  Looking forward to your big celebration in 13 days!!

It's so hard but we can all do it together, I just made a month smoke free, and this week I've wanted to smoke more then ever but I'm fighting it with my everything, it's unbelievable but two of my closest nonsmoking friends started smoking just when I quit, and say too bad we can't have one together you tortured me to sit out in the cold for years with your cigarettes, I have to say it's not a bonding prop! And why the hell did you start! Truth is, if something has us this by the balls why give in to it so the hold stays strong, we have to keep cutting the lifeline until there are no more left, cause it's sad to be so controlled by a lousy cigarette, I mean through this quit I've cried over these damn things and felt mental. Don't give in!! And have to start the withdrawal all over again, you don't want that... Have a lollipop !!! Stay strong we are all here for you!!

Ah the one year trigger...rowly, I did that. Once upon a time I caved...felt better when I rode it out and went past it let me tell you.

Bandit and I agree this point. Just ride it out Rowly, just dumb thoughts! We all have so many dumb thoughts and we don't act on them. It's our inner addict spying an opportunity! Close that addict down...cut off that dude and just keep moving. This foot, that foot. it'll pass! That's the thing of triggers, they always pass even if you just wait them out.

You got this man! x

Rowly,

Can't thank you enough for posting this.  I am a month short of 1 year and I'm craving hard right now as well!  Peeling back more layers.

Exhausted.

WTF????

Also, over a week ago I had an all-night smoking dream.  Look at these late-game attempts by the addiction!  Ugh.  Crazy stuff.

It's morning here now. I just woke up after dreaming that I was on day one again, not cool! When I woke up it took a while for me to realise that it was just a dream. I'm going for a run now, thank you all for your support I did not smoke. Chat later I hope....

Sounds like a dream you needed to have. Last week I walked into a vape shop on a whim and spent the whole night dreaming about vaping. I never even vaped in real life, but now I feel like I know how much it would suck. Thanks dreams!

Also, good work for the sos, and again for not smoking. I'm deducting a half point for going running, cause now you're just showing off.

Glad to hear you didn't smoke, I remember having the itch too! For me it felt weird as in when you start your quit you have all these milestones, you get excited about managing a month, then two and three and so on.

Once you get to the year it sort of felt a bit flat to me, like what am i suppose to do now the euphoric state just disappears and your quit just stagnates, we forget how bad it was on day one and through those early days, weeks and even months.

Look forward to seeing your one year post Rowlyd

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
