I'll get right to it: Sugar Britches is pregnant...and I'm the father.

Spent the morning in the office of an OB/GYN, first time I've ever done that.  They ran a battery of tests and found Sugar Britches to be in tip-top shape and the baby is growing right on schedule.  Just a wee little baby measuring roughly 2.3 centimeters and weighing in at less than an ounce.

We are at the nine week mark meaning the baby is due around late-June or early-July of 2020.

Got an unexpected surprise during the visit, the doctor did an ultrasound and was able to pick up the sound of the baby's heartbeat.  Not gonna lie...I teared up a bit hearing that.

Big day for Mama Britches and Papa Boo.

Hopefully we will know the gender of the baby in February.  The doctor explained that after week 20 is typically when you can get a better look with an ultrasound.  Then we can narrow down the list to girl names or boy names.

If we had been told we were having twins (a girl and a boy) I already had the names picked out.  I figured we could call them: Heidi and Howdy...teach 'em to sing and dance, tell a few jokes, then go out on the road performing shows.

I'll take any tips offered.  I have a thousand-and-one questions right now.  I'm more excited than I've ever been in my life.  I also have moments where I think to myself: I don't know what the hell I'm doing!

The doctor told me I could be of assistance in the area of the nutritional and exercise needs of Sugar Britches through the pregnancy.  The doc found out I'm a geek when it comes to health and fitness and figured I could be of some assistance during the pregnancy...make myself useful.  She gave me some valuable resources to study.

Congratulations, Boo!  Such wonderful, blessed news!!

OMG...you've done it now, bowled a maiden over an gone and got the missus up the dufff.

Boo, Sugar Britches and Cash, hugest congrats to you all...such an exciting bit of news...ok so confession I mights got teary reading you talk about the heart beat... I remember hearing the kids ticker for the first time...so amazing.

So I see the new OCD obsession for Boo....pregnancy & parenting books.... Put the books down...my grandma popped out 10 ankle biters and her advice to me was every pregnancy is different so don't get caught up in those books. Don't drive ya missus crazy, remember happy mum, happy bub...I'm sure I told the kids dad "I don't give a fruck what the fruckin book says...you know what you can do with the fruckin book dontcha?"...everything in moderation my friend cos books are even harder to pull outta ya arse than they are to get in there.

You are Gunna love being a dad...sure you'll **** up cos they don't come with a manual but she'll be right, you're an awesome dad to your fur baby Cash so you got this. And your bubba (is it wierd I keep wanting to say girl) is never going to have memories of you as a smoker...to them you will be a never smoker.

You have 31 weeks to work out how to load photos cos we will wanna see pics.

In the doctor's defense, I think she gave me a reading list to narrow my focus a bit and keep me busy.  A very polite way of saying: stay in your lane.  She's been in practice since 1986, it seems unlikely that I'm gonna find something on the internet she doesn't already know.

Boo, Sugar Britches and Cash,

Gotta brag on Cash a bit.  We've known for a few weeks that we had a bun in the oven, but wanted to wait until after the first appointment to make it official.  Cash usually splits his time between me and Sugar Britches pretty evenly.  However, over the last month he has barely left her side...he has gotten more protective of her than usual.  I think Cash has some sort of intuition and is just an all-around great dog...of course I'm very biased in my observations.

She lets me know when I need to tone it down a bit.  I was going on a bit earlier in the week about some stuff I read.  She listened for a while then asked: "did you make up charts and graphs for me to look at?"  Figured that was my cue to shut up for a bit.

Yeah, so...about that...

I was reading about the nutritional needs of pregnant women and unborn babies before bed last night.  Here was my amazing discovery: they need protein, healthy fats, calcium, folic acid, etc..  Basically just a matter of eating real food that provides the building blocks of human beings.

For a guy who always preaches simplicity, it is always my first inclination to complicate things needlessly.

I'm a hypocrite, but I recognize my own hypocrisy...so I got that going for me.

That's the way things work, pal.

I advocate choice, change and taking risks but, my first inclination is always, 'No'.

When I hear that, 'No', it is my signal to immediately reconsider.

You two are going to learn a whole lot about yourselves and eachother.

Beautiful. Beautiful.

Just so you know, no matter how many tube steaks she eats, the baby won't have that extra little handle😁

My ex father in-law had a psycho vicious dog that had to be chained up in the yard when I visited because it hated me...it hated everyone, especially chicks, but it really hated me...when I was preggas with the kid I became it's best friend, followed me around, sat at my feet, growled at anyone who came near me...when the kid was born...back to hating me but doted on the kid. Cash is Gunna be an awesome big brother.

Aww Congrats Boo and Mrs Boo. This is the best news you will ever have. soon to be three, how lovely.

Wishing you all the best.

I saw another thread but wasn't sure if you were pregnant.

Congratulations to you both.

Believe me you will fall in love as soon as you set eyes on baby boo. There is nothing you wouldn't do for that little bundle.

My advice - Cherish every moment, capture everything on a video or photo and remember every single thing you do and say shapes their views on themselves and the world.

Before you know it you will be driving them to college - it goes way too fast.

Sugar Britches and Baby Boo are both doing well.  Went back to the OB/GYN today for a follow-up.  The little one has doubled in size since our last visit and is now developing little fingers and toes.  The kid has officially graduated from embryo to fetus.  The heartbeat sounded particularly strong and healthy today...this kid is a champ I tell ya!  Baby measures 7.2 centimeters and weighed in at 3/4 of an ounce.

Mama Britches is doing great as well; healthy, strong, and in good spirits.  The bouts of nausea are becoming fewer and further between.  She's still running a little hot-and-cold on the fatigue front; has days where energy levels are low followed by feeling very energetic the next day.  And we've got the beginnings of a "baby bump"...Sugar Britches is starting to show.

We're at the tail-end of the first trimester and beginning the second.

Me and Sugar Britches are overcome with excitement right now.

OMG Boo, you are too cute.  I am enjoying being a part of your excitement.  You can just tell you are perfect for the honor of being a husband and father.  I am anxiously awaiting the next update!
