  2. Thank you John for posting this! Sometimes people who just quit smoking, and are experiencing all type of turmoils and every day without smoking is extremely important, ask people with long term quits "What does it feel like to be quit for a long time ?" I can honestly answer that question with what happened with this 8 year anniversary. I completely forgot !!!

  3. You can eat it as a side dish with any meat. Or, you can treat fried okra like an appetizer. There is a restaurant here in town that serves it up with a tangy "Louisiana Style" dipping sauce. That's some tasty eating. I never said it was healthy, just delicious. A guilty pleasure if you will. I quit smoking. I quit drinking. However, quitting fried foods is a battle that still rages.

  6. They're not Golden or Trip Top but yeah mate there the real deal. They will work. You still need to toast then before you eat them. I usually have to drop the toaster 2 times to toast them enough. Then butter them while hot and pop ya s off poached bum nuts on top. Surely, somewhere near you sells vegemite. Be brave, just don't spread it super thick, it's like chillies you have to build up your tolerance. Try one with honey too....not with the egg, just butter/marg and honey.

  7. You can't quit if you aren't 100% BRUTALLY honest with yourself. (1) There is no "slip". A slip is accidental. When you smoke, you JUMPED right in knowing full well what you were doing and the consequences. (2) Doreen is absolutely correct. You are either quit, or you are not. If you can not accept these facts ... you WILL NOT be successful. EZPZ

  10. Keep looking to the future. Realize that once you confront most of your holidays triggers in your first year, the rest of the holiday seasons in the coming years will be very much more easier to handle. You really have to do this only once. Cristóbal

  18. You never know when an impromptu game of Chicks or Sticks might break out. For my plan to work...I'm gonna need to teach a black lab and two miniature donkeys how to count to 20. The devil is in the details.

  19. Will this last you a couple days?

  20. Two. The family Boo is now the proud owner of two miniature donkeys. Here's the thing, miniature donkeys are very sociable animals and like to have barnyard friends. The farmer we bought the donkeys from was quick to point this out right before he generously offered a special price if we bought more than one. He introduced us to two young geldings named Peanut and Shorty. They were born within two weeks of each other and are pretty much inseparable at this point. Well...you don't want your miniature donkey to get lonely and it would have been a shame to split up a couple of lifelong friends. And the rest is history. We haven't brought Peanut and Shorty home yet. I've got a little bit of prep work to do before they can set up house. I need to put up some new fencing and build a shelter for them. Those are fairly simple jobs that I can knock out over the next three or four weekends. Peanut. Shorty. Welcome to the family boys.

  21. It also says and I quote "It’s important to restart quitting right away—today or tomorrow at the latest. Don’t give up on your goal of no cigarettes at all." So isn't that a little contradictory? I mean if its a slip you wouldn't need to restart right?

  22. Some days I'm pretty sure I don't even notice cigarettes, and I rarely, if ever, have a craving anymore, so I was surprised to have a dream about smoking early this morning. A man in his 50s, wearing a turquoise sweater and chinos was sitting next to me in a large event hall where many people were milling about. He pulled out a red and white pack of cigarettes and light up. No one said anything to him. I could smell the smoke, and it wasn't pleasant, but it wasn't as terrible as I thought I'd find it. In the dream, He offered me one, but I declined. I thought about how I used to find smoking relaxing, a pleasure, but I resisted. I remembered the quote that @johnny5 has on his signature line, that "If you have just one you will be right back where you started, and where you started was desperately wishing you were where you are right now. - Marvitta" I awoke and immediately came to the QSMB to pledge for Monday. Even in my dreams I am a nonsmoker now.

  27. We highly stress education and awareness of nicotine addiction. It's easier to fight an enemy you know. At the top of this page there are pages tacked with a green pin, go thru them, read everything...read it twice Education is how we gain power over things like "romancing" and "cravings" You will learn that nicotine has actually changed the chemical make up of your brain, and you have to push the reset button. We use sayings like Not One Puff Ever, Never Take Another Puff not because we're brainwashed, but because we've gotten to know our addiction. We know one puff will lead to another. Quitting is all in your head... it's as easy or as hard as you want it to be.

  31. I didn't avoid anything....I drank coffee, I drank beer, I sat outside with my smoking husband, I never asked him to move his smokes from my view, I even went outside with my smoking co -workers when the weather was nice (haha...didn't HAVE TO when it wasn't) I do think protecting yourselves from your triggers does your quit a disservice. The truth is...you are surrounded by triggers your entire life. Instead of protecting yourself from them, arm yourself. Great post Jonnie! :)

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
