Hello Everyone, I smoked for 43 years and quit 11 days ago. I never thought I'd be free from my addiction, and I used the patch to make it through that first day without smoking. That day was a miracle for me! My next goal is to get nicotine completely out of my life, so I made a plan to be off the patch by this Tuesday at the latest. I hope to someday go hiking and NOT make a spectacle of myself as I practically collapse on the trail, gasping for air. I live in Colorado and maybe I'll get better enough to actually make it up hills. Or maybe not. But either way, I'll be out there trying! Thanks for listening, and I'm glad I can hear from people who took control of their lives!!8 points

Evelyn. This is not about a god or a prayer. It is about you making a commitment and sticking to it and so far, you aren't committing to your quit. You NOPE'd this morning, was that a joke ? Stop smoking. Quit the fcuking around already. You have been screwing around since April 2014, what is different now ?3 points

Welcome back Evelyn, glad you've decided to quit again. Stick close, pledge your NOPE everyday and let's get this done3 points

Now see ..... that's a problem. Thought you have got rid of the cigs. Did you go buy more? This isn't a good start Evelyn. You know what is required. You said it yourself - N.O.P.E. You DO have it within you to quit. We all do. You just have to honour the commitment you make to yourself.3 points

Hi Evelyn. I know you have been here before (many times I expect) and have not yet been able to secure your forever quit. Just take all those old excuses and chuck them because they will only lead you back to smoking. One great thing you do have on your side already is this place that will give you endless support. What a blessing to have somewhere to go and feel comforted. Sure there are those that will give it to you straight and that stark reality is also needed in addition to the comforting part of this place so take advantage of all this help. Don't let yourself down again this time. Show us all and most importantly yourself just how committed you can be.3 points

As the first few days were the worst, during my free time on those days I cleaned everything I could in the house. My bedroom furniture went from yellow to white. Curtains, all my clothes, and bedding got laundered. Pictures came off the walls to get a cleaning, walls got cleaned, everything I could clean. It kept my mind off wanting to smoke plus I figured if I wanted smoking out of my life, I needed to rid as much evidence and stench as possible. Going from being a smoker to a non-smoker is kind of a big transition. While it is not possible to get rid of smoke residue 100% but I was going to do everything I could to live as a non-smoker. My car got a good cleaning and the ash tray bleached. Of course I had already gotten rid of the rest of my cigarettes, my cigarette rolling machine, paper tubes, ash trays, etc. It made it easier to stay quit with everything clean.3 points

I also used deep breathing but, didn't need the hand to mouth action so much. Taking a break on my back stoop to think with a smoke was a serious pattern but, taking the break on my back stoop to think and breathe became the sustainable ritual. Oxygen is delicious.3 points

Name: El Bandito AKA: Stuart Quit Date: 27/01/2014 About Me: Skirt wearing islander, specialising in Rocket Surgery Why I quit: Smoking's crap. Biggest bit of advice: Quitting can be tough. It's almost like they made those things addictive....3 points

Nope. Ofcourse I won't go to the gas station. This is time for bed, not nightly relapsing. Making the same choice as I did the other 186 days. Nope.2 points

Was traditional smoking ever a wedding thing? Answering my own question through the magic of the intertubes. A quick search on google for “smoking wedding photos” doesn’t turn up anything on the 1st page other than how to accommodate smokers or declare it completely non-smoking and using smoke bombs to provide colored smoke for some cool wedding photo effects (that is kinda cool)2 points

Welcome to the train Icanhike Great start to your quit - congrats! That first week is the worst you'll likely face. It's a journey though so be patient and stick with your commitment and you'll find freedom like the rest of us here have. Stick around here for 2 reasons; #1 you'll get a lot of support from other quitters who know exactly what you're going through; #2 there's a ton of very helpful information that can help you understand this nicotine addiction and how to break free of it for good! Hope to see you around for the long term2 points

Howdy! I’m Lust4Life AKA: L4L, Lust, Lusty Quit: Sept 26, 2016 making me a member of the awesome 2016 Buttkickers gang. Why? I despised smoking more than I enjoyed it. The importance of living healthier & longer for my child (and myself) outweighed the “importance” of feeding this addiction. I was was a closet smoker to most. Therefore, I had no Pomp and Circumstance when I quit or as my quit grew. I found joining a quit forum gave me the much needed outlet to vent about my quit and get much needed support and advice. The best thing (besides obvious health) is gaining back time and losing the anxiety assoc. with smoking (do I have enough, a lighter, do I stink, when will I be alone so I can smoke?).2 points
