  1. On a happier note, I'm making triple choc chip bickies for the kid to take to her mates place tomorrow and the whole house smells yummy.
  2. That wasn't a thing here in my time as a smoker...maybe earlier though.
  3. How do these people know your name, address and DOB?.....I'd be more freaked out about that tbh. That just creeps me out... Maybe it's just a US thing?....I don't ever remember the tobacco companies doing give aways or vouchers down here. That's so outside my realm..... What's the AARP letter? Is it like a senior's card to give you discounts on things like the movies?
  4. 12... G-ski were you in the quake zone?
  5. G67 is in Cali too isn't he? Hope the earth stops moving for you. Saz always has the most interesting science.
  6. I think we need a song count, did Louisiana out song Tennessee? Well in honour of NAIDOC week I am limiting my musical offerings this week to the oldest culture in the world and only sharing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists. Keep your ears ready for original v cover #3 this week which will have a NAIDOC theme....it's a ripper....but thats later in the week. So we can't really start a NAIDOC week without a welcome to country, for ours we'll head north to Brydon Bay (the most eastern point of mainland Aus) and a welcome dance from one of the north NSW nations.. While the didges are out here is some fusion from truely great music, William Barton, first came across this young fella at a blues festival...but lately he's been going a bit more classical.... And last month at Hawkey's memorial, doing a song you will all know...
  7. Good mornin' fellow NOPErs and welcome to NAIDOC (nay-doc) week. NAIDOC week is a week we set aside to celebrate the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders each year and also there history and culture. This years celebrations kicked off on a sad note, David Gulpilpil was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Many of you will have seen David on you screens, he was the teen in Walkabout, he was the tracker in Rabbit Proof Fence, and he won the best actor at Cannes Film Festival for his role in Charlie's Country plus the movie all Aussie kids of the 70s and 80s loved, Storm Boy. Saddly David could not accept his award, it was announced he has lung cancer and "will soon be joining the Dreamtime". David is only 66. Much too young . NOPE ... Not today
  8. Happy yesterday fellow NOPErs...sneaking in a Chesky late one because 6th of July is Pineapple Day....pineapples are a super food, and for those of you wondering the rumours are true, although technically it is the water content not actual pineapples but that's a different story somewhere else in the boards....so pineapples are nature's antihistamine, if you ever out and about and hayfever kicks in...just drink some pineapple juice, now it want take all the symptoms away but it will take the edge off, significantly..... But most importantly pineapples teach us all how we should live, we should stand tall, we should wear a crown and we should be sweet on the inside. Hope you all had a nope filled Satdee. Nope, especially on pineapple day.
  9. @hesteralumni23 going into therapy for your childhood trauma is one of the best things you can do at this stage. You should be really proud of yourself for taking this step.
  10. Can't believe you mob all missed this opportunity...so your welcome.... And cos if ya listen to the lyrics this is all the states.. And cos when British kids grow up in Aus they get good...lol... But you do know, the best state of all ain't even in The USofA.....The Kinks knew...that's right...it's: In the the greatest land on earth....
  11. I have a Johnny Cash song or two up me sleeve for future polls. Thanks for letting me see Willie not old...that's just full on, you know his banter between the songs has a Bingish cadence, like he'd used it as a guide...just reminded me of Bowie and Bing's Chrissy carol patter. Really enjoyed that clip.
  12. Now @Sazerac you know how I feel about monarchs....including musical ones...well naw the Duke is or-ite...but I will post him... I even left out The Seekers and they frickin Aussies, but their version is shiteful (imho)... So my vote went for the Dubliners, bit of a traditionalist... And grandma would be up ours her grave kicking my arse if I deviated from tradition. Here is fake Elvis. ...
  13. Won't Boo be disappointed, I'm rubbing my fingers together playing the world's smallest violin for him. I know couldn't pick out cash or Willie but I would know the other twos voices if I fell over them so just figured it was one of them
  14. Ok so this one was what first got me thinking of this, an old Irish folk song that has be covered by every man and his dog....so originally I was Gunna just go for the top 3, the ones everyone knows, but then I found all the others...so Bryan only got a lookin cos it was recorded in Melbourne, and I love my home town, but which version is best.... And just for @Boo: Would you believe I even found an Elvis impersonator called The King doing a cover of this song...
  15. Well no surprises here....let's see if the next one will stir some debate....
  16. That's a complete set...all the News done... And one for Bakon
  17. This is my fave song from Calamity Jane, used to sing it to the kid as a bubba.
