  1. 3 months today Still hanging on there despite some touchy situations that normally would have me reaching for a cigarette. I do believe today that there isn't just one cigarette, or puff even, and in very short order I would be back to my usual smoking behaviour if I believe the lie that I can "just have one". My apologies if I don't post here to often. There are folks here who do a far better job of sharing their experience and hope than I could just at this moment. I will though keep posting when I can and especially when I hit a target date if only to demonstrate to anyone who is struggling that if I can do it so can they . Many many thanks for all your support and kind words.

  4. Nice work Midmale. Sorting through the lies we told ourselves and accepting the truths we didn't necessarily want to hear is a major part of the process. Congratulations. You are building a rock-solid quit for yourself.

  12. HI! Please don't think that Chantix is your last chance at quitting. As long as you are still breathing you have a chance of quitting. I'm on my seventh quit this year and I'm not about to quit trying. Who knows, we might make it at some point! Don't give up on it! Take Care and Cheer Up!

  13. Congratulations on stopping smoking, Matthew! Definitely stay away from the drink if it makes you crave. I did early on. You know how alcohol ruins most people's good intentions. Not worth it! You're almost done with hell week, Matthew. Great going!

  17. Does it sound bad if I really want to be the one to fire her out of spite?

  18. No, I wouldn't pay for it! I found a link to it. Read it 3 times. From everything I'd heard about it, I thought I had missed something. Don't get me wrong, it's a good read for some extra motivation. He makes some very good points. But there is no magic trick there, you still have to quit for yourself by a comment made to yourself. Good Luck! I hope your quit is still going well!

  21. Yes she is. I still amazed at all the people here in the group that have become non smokers. This chantix is my last chance to do it. Seems like it gets harder not easier. I hate to even post because I'm ashamed I am having such a hard time

  22. P.S. Linda, when you quit completely, stick close to this site. It’s been proven over and over again that we need support during a quit. You don’t have to say anything if you don’t want to. Just be here. i have a sister named Linda.

  23. Hi Linda! I took Chantix for a week before I quit cold turkey. I knew from prior quits that I’m not capable of just smoking less. It wasn’t an option for me. I plan on taking it for the full 3 months. My doctor is thinking about extending it for an additional 3 months if I need it...but no more than that...only because I’ve been smoking for so long with so many unsuccessful quits. It’s the cravings that get me into trouble. Every. Time. Chantix helps with the cravings but doesn’t take them away; you will still need to fight them. I think it will be easier for you in the long run to quit completely. Pick a date and try to be healthy and strong before it comes. How are you doing with the two pills a day? I get nauseous. Yay! Maybe I won’t gain so much weight. Lol. I can’t sleep but that’s ok... until I have to pay attention. I don’t get the wild dreams that are a common side effect...damn. That’s the one I was hoping for. Figures. Let’s see, I quit on 8/27/2020, so I started Chantix one week prior to that. I filled the prescription about 3 weeks before I started. I had to look at it every day and build up to actually starting the prescription. Crazy, isn’t it?! I’ve found that a tiny bit of marijuana (edibles) can help with the nausea and anxiety. I’m a little afraid to put that out for the whole site to see because I’m a newbie and don’t know if rules apply...but it’s true for me. I’m in California and have a medical card. My doctor knows. I told her before I started this journey. Did I answer your question properly? If I can do this, you can do this. I’m cheering for you!

  24. I would pass on any alcohol until you're far enough into your quit that life is no longer a trigger for you. It may seem like triggers to smoke will always be a larger factor but they won't.

  26. Hey midmale, seven weeks is great! Congratulations If you want even more inspiration why not create a ticker for your signature? I loved watching all the time, money and cigs NOT smoked add up. Plus it showed me what I was going to lose it I caved to a crave! https://www.quittrain.com/tickers/

  27. Hi and good morning all Well its 7 weeks today..feels like forever but i have learnt a lot in what also seems a short time, work that one out It impresses me cos I didnt think I could stay away from a smoke for 7 minutes! But i also know I can never be complacent. Still getting about 3 cravings a day, sometimes more but they dont seemto last as long or be as intense. Thanks for your messages of support and good wishes. I do pop in here pretty much every day to remind myself and refocus so your support means a lot

  28. Sorry Mick. Some of our members use quite the tawdry language because they're so passionate about quitting. Ooops! I said "members". Moderators, please move this to the "Curse Thread". But seriously, good job Mick. Keep that great quit going.

  29. Hi and good morning everyone Many thanks for your words of wisdom. I'm feeling a lot more positive and focused today. I feel I had to go through that bad patch to come out the other side and feel a little bit more stronger and strengthen my resolve to kick this horrible addiction. I've had a good read around all the great info on here and will continue to do so, knowledge is power in my book and I never go into a battle with an empty gun. The more I learn about my enemy(addiction) the weaker it seems to get but I also realise I can never be complacent, but that's ok if it means I can live a free and happy life.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
