We are near a few seaside resorts Dovercourt Bay (my beach hut area and second home) Walton On The Naze, Clacton -On Sea and the beautiful Frinton-On-Sea.

 

Colchester town is not far from us and is beautiful and is the oldest recorded town in England. We are also near Manningtree which is the smallest town in England.

Im in Ohio, near Lake Erie...absolutely nothing to do here and the land is as flat as a pice of paper pretty boring (OK, I am exaggerating, but the view here is nothing like the scenery others has posted)...so...anyone who lives someplace interesting, send your address and house guests will arrive as soon as I can get tickets bought  ;)

I live near the beautiful and exotic three rivers. Plenty of Allegheny whitefish to be seen there.

 

The South Side offers many bars/pubs & urination stations on front doors.

 

The Waterfront is a excellent example of putting a little "bling" in the sling.

 

Oakland is home to an overpriced campus and porch parties on McKee.

 

And downtown is a wonderful spectacle...as long as you see it between the hours of noon and 3:00 P.M.....and only on Sundays.

Right I like this... I live in Werribee home of the southern hemispheres biggest sewage treatment plant.... but we have heaps of things becsides tours of the shit farm to do (which you can do if you want to)... um we have a zoo which includes a safari bus ride, we have a river that floods sometimes and makes the golf course turn into an ocean, we have an old mansion and a heritage homestead, we have the state rose garden, and yep, that's about it.. oh we have a beach but its in the bay so not much chop (I like ocean waves) but a decent spot to put ya boat out.... so from my door I am 35km to the centre of Melbourne (which can be anything from a 30min drive to a 2hour drive depending on the day of the week and time)... I am 1 1/2 hours drive from Bells Beach which and about an hour from the nea'rest decent surf beach.. I am on the outer edges of the outer suburbs and on the finges of country... I spose its an OK place to live but as with everything down under you have to expect to travel and liking driving is desirable. Food wise... Aussie food is limited but being a multinational country we can get anything... from sudenese, ethoipian, nigerian, greek, gurka, italian, turkish, moroccan, American BBQ, French, Chinese, Thai, Japanes, Vietbnames, Burmese, Karan.... you pick a country and I'll find you a resteraunt in Melbourne that serves their food... but the main thing in Melbourne... COFFEE... we are the coffee capital of Australia and I'm pretty sure Australia is the only country Starbucks failed to infultrate... they went bust.... they are trying again but there are less than 20 Starbucks in the whole country...and why?? Cos there coffee tastes like dishwater... in Melbourne particularily we have been blessed with amazing Greek and Italian style cafes since the late 40's... shit now I need to go down the main and get me a coffee.

 

BUT I grew up in Port Melbourne, in the house my Grandma's grandad and his brothers built... I spent all my spare time that wasn't doing sport or watching sport at the beach or under the pier if it was winter and rainy or riding my BMX from one end of Melbourne to the other. I'd catch the train (later to be the lightrail) into the city with all the little cousins and see a movie or run around the art gallery (that was free) or have war games in the botanical gardens and the secret fern gullies... Best place ever to grow up... but all the trendies have moved in now and its just not the same anymore. Oh well, how many (Aussies) can say they went to the same primary school that their great grandad, grandma, and dad did??.... how many (Aussies) grew up in a house that so many other generations of their family did, in my heart, the Port Melbourne of the 70's & 80's will always be home.... We could stop at 2 different pubs on the walk home from school on a hot day and get a soft drink cos the publicans played footy or cricket or basketball with our dad.... but shhhh not supposed to serve minors.

^^^ This! I have had 4-Bucks coffee twice in my life ...... both times, I went for a real coffee elsewhere immediately after!

I live on lovely Long Island, New York....pretty much right smack in the middle. 15 minute drive to either the North Shore (Gold Coast mansions, horse farms, rolling hills), South Shore (Jones Beach, Robert Moses Beach, Long Beach) and an hour or so to go west to NYC and an hour or so to go east to the North Fork (Wine Country and Orient Point) or South Fork (the Hamptons and Montauk Point) depending on traffic - we are the home of the infamous Long Island Expressway (LIE) and the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and Fire Island. I love it here....but once I retire will have to leave....it's too damn expensive!!
