April 17, 201412 yr I recently confessed to a few members that I am a Google map enthusiast. (borderline addict) I can't help it!! I've taken many trips around the world and street view is my favorite. :) I also love finding out about different cultures and way of living. I live in central New Jersey, USA. We are famous for the New Jersey Turnpike which really irks me because we are about so much more (I've only been on the Turnpike a dozen times in my life) We are the Garden State and grown the best Tomatoes and Corn...among other great fruits and veggies. I love Spring and Summer! I live less than 2 hours from the Mountains 45 minutes from the beach and 1 hour from Atlantic City 30 Minutes from Philadelphia less than 2 hours from NYC Best of many worlds! It's very expensive to live here compared to many other parts of the country and the closer you are to NYC..the more expensive it is. We are also famous for Pork Roll and cheese-steaks and Pizza...everyone I know who moves away, always complains about the food compared to here and when they revisit...that's the first thing they want to do...EAT!! What corner of the world are you in? Tell me something about it...would I like to visit???
April 17, 201412 yr Well, we are military so where I am at now does not reflect "home". I am around the Richmond area now and so far I don't have a lot of nice things to say, lol! I grew up in a Kansas Suburb in Kansas City, KS. At the time my town was the furthest from the edge of the city you could possible go, to the west was farm land, to the east was city, city, and more city. People like to think of Dorothy and Toto when you mention Kansas but that could not be further from the truth. Where I grew up was rated one of the top places in the nation, even the schools. The BBQ is amazing and if your not into what comes straight from your own back yard, Jack Stack on the Plaza is ah-maz-ing!!!! Love me some burnt ends. The festivals in the summer time, specifically the Jazz and Blues festivals are something to definitely not miss. Next to Paris France, Kansas City is known for its fountains and skyline. If you travel a bit west of the city to where Kansas State university is you can see some of the most beautiful rolling hills, the flint hills. FIelds and fields of green rolling hills. Tucked away you might find little streams with water falls and places where you can pull your truck right into the water on the flint rock and sun bathe all day. The water is clear as day. Kansas has its little hidden gems, you just have to ask a local :) Its so much more than the Wizard of Oz and tornados, though I have experienced a few of those in my day as well, haha!

April 17, 201412 yr I had a great time in Atlantic city a few years back (actually about 15ish years ago). Stayed in a hotel (I think called the flagship) and they gave you a free bus ride, buffet ticket and $5 in change to go to Taj Mahal casino. So... I did! Anyway, found a fruit machine that looked good, started putting my free $5 in and somehow the bell started ringing like crazy and got $200 out of it! So scooped all that into one of the conveniently supplied buckets, got that changed into notes, changed $20 into special $1 coins and went into "The Sultans Palace" where I sat at the bar playing 21s with my $20 and getting free Jack and Cokes all night... Left the place $180 up and absolutely shite faced! Woke up in the morning back in my hotel with an attractive woman (apparently I can be charming and English even when incredibly drunk) next to me who I spent the next 4 days partying with in New York. So... Not a bad result really.
April 17, 201412 yr Did you pick Alaska or Germany? Thought you picked the snow but not sure. New Jersey- they aren't allowed to pump their own gas there, that's some window licking fun state. We drive through at times, try not to stop. Kansas City- been through there too. Didn't stop. Seems like you both live on the way to somewhere cool. England- spent two weeks there. Couldn't understand a word. Couldn't wait to get back to Germany where they at least speak broken English.

April 17, 201412 yr Ex Military here, seems to be alot of us lol! anyhooo current location Scotland, 20 mins from Glasgow, 1 hour 30 mins from Edinburgh, Babs think you would like Scotland nice scenery and walks here, i'm 20 mins from the beach famous for Rabbie Burns, Alexander Fleming, William Wallace and Killie Pies, award winning apparently, also had a tv show called The Scheme filmed here, which shows this charming town to its full advantage, some lovely (said with a very sarcastic voice) characters emerged from that one! and most come to the bank I work in all on the Dole and all worth a fortune. Lots of Druggies to be seen hanging about the town centre, that's the local wildlife, but all in all its not a bad place. I've lived all over the world too would love to go back to my place of birth Oslo Norway. Live in Rheindahlen used to live across from the hotel where all the football players went after a match, and from our balcony could see them in the hot tub MEMORIES of that one. Guterslough, Ramstein. Malaysia, lots of places in the UK and ended up in Scotland 32 years ago.
April 17, 201412 yr Hmmmm. Let's see. Ok, if you drive about an hour east of me you can see the CN Tower and all the other 'delights' that the city of Toronto has to offer. About an hour and 20 minutes south-east is Niagara Falls. The Falls are breathtaking. The surroundings are an ugly tourist trap. 20 min north west is Mennonite country. Drive carefully as horse and buggy is the main form of transportation. Stop at any/all farm lanes to purchase most of your weekly groceries. (Eggs, bread and baked goods, veggies and fruit, jarred preserves, maple syrup!, summer sausage) 20 minutes north is Elora and Fergus. Fergus holds the largest Scottish Festival, The Highland Games in the summer. Elora is a quaint little tourist town with AMAZING walking trails and views of the cliffs and the gorge. Probably the most scenic town in Ontario. I live in the city that was home to Col. John Mcrae who wrote the war poem "In Flanders Fields" We are also known as the Royal City although I'm not sure why.

I am from PA and my dad's parents had a house in Ocean City, NJ and my mom's parents in Avalon. Pretty much all of our vacations were in one of those places. Miss the shore very much. Such a great place. We are also famous for Pork Roll and cheese-steaks and Pizza...everyone I know who moves away, always complains about the food compared to here and when they revisit...that's the first thing they want to do...EAT!! This is so true. I might miss cheese-steaks more than my family. Last time I was home I ordered a cheese-steak 3x in one week. So delicious. I am in TX now and the pizza sucks... I have tried the "Philly Cheese-steak" at so many different places and they were all pathetic. I wanted to sue them all for false advertising!
April 17, 201412 yr the town im in is 30 south east of forth worth and 60 south west of dallas about 36000 people a lot of fast food places but not a lot to do here used to be a dry county not any more you can find beer and wine at ever conner store have a nice park though a few antique stores a lawers office on ever conner around the court house if you want real good food you have to drive about 20 miles north to burleson to many storms at this time of year well nut much to tell :D
April 17, 201412 yr OOOoooooooohhhhh I LOVE google earth!!! I love "walking" down streets, and going to cool places..I already checked out the neighborhood we are staying at on the Island in Florida :) lol Very cool! Not sure if you would want to visit Michigan, I have lived here most of my life,... It's a beautiful state, every season is something different. I am in the midwest{ more west} side of the state. 35 min from Lake Michigan{ it is NOT a puddle} fresh water, no salt, no sharks.. we even have shirts that stay that!There are miles and miles of beaches on 3 sides of the state, and huge sand dunes, Silver lake is one of my favorite places to go.. google it, you will see!!! Sleeping Bear Dunes, and Pictured Rock, I want to go to some day!!! Lots of forests, wildlife, bald eagles, owls, wolves, cougars, bears, deer, turkeys, and more. People here tend to drive faster then posted 70mph(guilty) and forget how to drive in the winter.. it's BAD. The big town near me, is patented, " Beer City USA", and we have many many micro breweries,we like to drink! we have the farm team to the Detroit Red Wings, the farm team for the Detroit Tigers,all right here. Detroit is about 2.5 hours away, Mackinac City and Mackinaw Island, 5 hours north, which also has the 5 mile expansion bridge that connects the Upper and Lower Penninsulas, the Golden Gate bridge has NOTHING on this majestic beauty!!!!! We are big farmers here, from corn, to apples, to wheat.. and the list goes on...come visit!

April 17, 201412 yr Wow, I need some of you guys to have spare rooms for holiday. I live in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. I don't know why anyone would visit. It's 2 hours from the nearest (quite average) beach and has nothing massive of note to offer lol. But it works for me. I looked on a map and picked the place that had a theatre but was an hours drive away from everything I'd ever known when I quit being a pub landlady 2 years ago - I didn't want to be "that woman who had run the pub". So chose a brand new start and a new town basedon the fact it was near to main road, affordable housing, good town centre and a reputable theatre lol. I do love the local woods though and am just spending the time now to find the local places of beauty, but mostly it's chimmneys haha.
April 17, 201412 yr I live in the middle of what they call "The cotswolds" it is very pretty lots of small villages, farm lands and very old market towns most 13th century I am surrounded by big towns and London is only 45 minutes drive away and Oxford 15 minutes drive away I love the countryside - I could never live in a city - NEVER I dont even like visiting them unless its just to say I have been there beaches are all between 2 1/2 hours to 4 hours drive away yes I think you would love to visit it babs check out the Zipcode SN7 8DZ England :)
April 17, 201412 yr I live in a city of about 39,000 or so people...a resort, residential and manufacturing community all in one lol. My city is the birthplace of the U.S. Navy, although nearby Marblehead (pronounced Mah-buhl-hed) tries to lay claim to that one. We are also known as the Garden City. This picture is of the Italian Rose Garden in a nearby park/beach. The story behind that garden is interesting, it was built in what was the basement of President Taft's summer White house. My city can be seen in a lot of movies. Our local municipal airport can be seen in quite a few movies as well, such as The Perfect Storm, The Proposal and Furry Vengeance. Some pictures of my town...

April 18, 201412 yr People say New Jersey like its a good thing? Colleen rode by all that last year. Cool place but rocks are not a beach. Tracey- nothing on the whole UK qualifies as beach either. Next Rez will pop up with Lake Erie, trying to hide "Ohio" as real place. Then Sgt will say "Ohio is for one nut lovers" when its really God's carnival Jimmy- Texas is pretty, when its in your rear view mirror. Jengalballs- looks familiar, is that Julies husband showing us the lack of underwear? and what the name mean?
