Thanks a lot everyone , you are all inspirational ! I've quit a few times (haha) but my failing has always been after the pain has finished . I need to stay focused after the hard work is done . I'm going along ok at the moment and I'm determined to not waste this one . I need to keep reminding myself that I'm still an addict no matter how much of a non smoker I feel , nope all the way .

Hey hey! Welcome to the QT ;)

Hi Slow,

Take a SLOW ride on the QUICK train!

(I crack myself up sometimes lol)

Good luck to you!

I need to keep reminding myself that I'm still an addict no matter how much of a non smoker I feel , nope all the way .

That's key right there.  It's the paradox of quitting: I want to smoke a cigarette, but I don't want to be a smoker.  Once I accepted the fact that I was an addict, and with that comes the occasional thought of wanting a cigarette, I learned to dismiss those thoughts easily.  Random thoughts springing from an addicted mind are nothing to fear and are immediately overridden by the commitment to never smoke again.  When I stopped making straight lines crooked, the simplicity of quitting amazed me.

Welcome!!!  Most all of us had a few false starts, so now is the time to make this the one!

A NOPE will get you through even the toughest cravings!  Plus, you have us all here for support.

We promise it will get easier everyday! :)

Being a non-smoker is AWESOME!

It's my 30th wedding Anniversary today . My better and always correct other half has been 23 days smoke free today ! Anyway I got up and made us two cups of tea , we are normally hardcore coffee drinkers . I would normally chain about 5 cigs first thing also . That morning trigger is well busted , yea !!!!

Thank you for your lovely comments. I'm happier that somehow it helped you to connect some dots. I always believed that was the power of a quit forum, you can take a little bit from everyone and simply leave what doesn't work for you.

Some things can be real deal breakers for relapsing and I'm pleased these guys could share them. By choosing nope, sometimes in a dance fueled craze lol, and realizing I was simply addicted to nicotine I stopped giving myself the choice to relapse. Being a non smoker is easier, you just don't put anything in your mouth and set it on fire :)

Welcome. My advice is keep reading, keep posting. xx

reward yourself...important to reward yourself...nobody else will....big or small, up to you but go buy yourself a treat for the quit work you have completed...

We promise it will get easier everyday! :)

Actually, I promise you the opposite. Some days will be worse than the one before.

On the whole, however, Petra is right. Much as it pains me to admit it.

Welcome to the Train.

Hey Slow....welcome aboard th QT!!

Also, Congrats on 30 years! That's quite an accomplishment .

Ive been away from the forum for a few days and missed welcoming you, but I see you are still with us and fighting the battle!

Take it one day at a time and continue to read and post here.... You are off to a great start, keep it going!

Also, Congrats to your wife...her battle is hers...and yours in...well...yours.. :p it's great that BOTH of you are taking this addiction head on and starting to live a more healthy life.

Hi, Slow. I don't always have time to respond to posts, so, I can be a lurker too :) Hope you're enjoying what you're reading, are receiving good support & making friends.
