  1. Our friend Soberjulie wrote this when she first quit: You don't have to be #1 at anything today. You don't have to figure things out, or understand, or make sure everyone (or Someone) understands you. You don't have to remember everything, or get all organized and start making lists. You don't have to solve every -- or any -- problem you have today (or solve someone else's problems today either). You don't have to figure out what will make you happy, or what you should do with your life. Those are good things to do of course, and come with a measure of reward or satisfaction or comfort. That's very true. I'm not saying those things are completely unimportant. But you don't have to do any of those things today. All you have to do today is not pick up that first cigarette. One hour at a time. One five minutes at a time. Until your head hits the pillow. And if you do that, you win. That's it. And the rest of that s*** will just have to work itself out or wait its turn. Smoke free first. The rest second. I love recycling.
  2. You can do it! The constant feeding of your nicotine addiction adds to your anxiety levels. Once you get that monkey off your back, you'll feel better and your body will start healing from the damage smoking does to it. You can work out a plan as you go.
  3. Good Job! I hope you haven't lost all of your counting skills.
  4. Hippity Hop Four Years down the bunny trail! Great Job!
  5. You're a STAR! Great Job!
  6. The Law of Addiction "Administration of a drug to an addict will cause reestablishment of chemical dependence upon the addictive substance." Welcome to the best decision you'll ever make.
  7. Stay the course!
  8. She's probably forgotten but she was the one that told me about this forum. I felt like the nerd that was given permission to hang out with the cool people, wait, that is exactly what happened. Have a nice day Jenny!
  9. Soon she will have days where she completely forgets to think about cigarettes. The first time it happens is a pleasant surprise.
  10. 7 pounds 8 ounces
  11. Good job Jane, throw some glitter around!
  12. As long as you keep trying to quit, we'll be here for you. We wish everyone would gain their freedom.
  13. Are you afraid you might succeed in quitting? Did the previous 18 days show you it could be done and it made you panic?
  14. Right! You should be deadly serious about quitting.
  15. When I first quit I got my car professionally cleaned. It smelled almost new and I did not want to spoil it by smoking in my car. It also reinforced in my mind how much better I smelled as well. You may have to do this later given our circumstances but I recommend you look into it. I paid for it with the money I didn't burn up.
  16. Yes. Junkie thinking there must be a way to rationalize a fix. Tell yourself that smoking is not an option so stop wasting time with that line of thinking. The faster you dismiss these ideas the less they will bother you.
  17. This ^^^ Everything I did had to be in 15-20 minute pieces between smokes.
  18. We don't get to decide all of our future but we do have some control over the present, so focus on what we can do. What you can do, right now, is not smoke. You're in control of that.
  19. Sazerac, fennel is nice shaved across the grain and dressed with lemon and oil as a salad. Add celery cut the same way if you have it or add some carrots.
  20. Happy Birthday!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
