  1. Have the party catered. Lot less stress for you. My BIL hired cater for my sisters 60th. He still got all the credit for the food
  2. As of today: 20,908 That number astounds me. Hard to believe I’ve done ANYTHING 10s of thousands of times
  3. People always said that to me too. I always thought they were just being kind or had no sense of smell whatever. I could always smell it on someone, even when I was still a smoker.
  4. I did skateboard as a teenager, wouldn’t call it an addiction. I didn’t wake up in the night and have the urge to grab my skateboard and hit the streets or have to sneak out during a TV commercial to do a few spin kicks on my board.
  5. You post didn’t make clear if taxpayer money is being used to create these lounges or are they privately funded? If the latter, that’s disappointing but I wouldn’t object Is the local government rescinding existing smoking bans? Or allowing a separate smoking lounge to exist. If they are rescinding bans, I understand the outrage.
  6. I never experienced any peer pressure, nor was asked to hold cigarettes by my friends that smoked (guess that means they were real friends). I just thought it looked cool to blow smoke out of your mouth. The head rush when I first managed to inhale without coughing sealed the deal
  7. It’s almost all about diseases . Almost nothing about the social aspect, which for me anyway, turned into the major motivation after the health reason. No longer having to sneak off or be banished to a remote spot to smoke if there was a smoking area at all.
  8. We looked into one of those portable oxygen concentrators for my mom rather than dealing with tanks. But as fate would have it, she contracted pneumonia one last time and passed shortly after in the hospital. Yes she was a smoker with both COPD and also emphysema I think. she had a horrible wet sounding cough in the last 10 to 15 years. She used a large version of those portable machines in nursing home though with no issues, and they would give us small tanks when we would take her home for dinners and such. But @Katgirl is right check with doctor (as if we have to tell you to check with doctor as you’ve warned many others of this over the years)
  9. Thank you all! @jillar and I have same quit date. Information from different sites. Depending on which you believe, after 5-15 years quit: your body has healed itself enough for arteries and blood vessels to start to widen again. This widening means the blood is less likely to clot, lowering the risk of stroke. Risk of death from lung cancer has dropped by half compared to when you smoked, according to the University of North Carolina so today I’m going to start enjoying those benefits by……(fill in the blank with your favorite activity)
  10. I’ve seen a few photos like this. Hard to believe they’re all real as smokers wouldn’t allow anyone to take a close up photo, masked or not. Having said that, I do have an anecdote of my own. Early in pandemic I saw a women come out of store wearing mask, shield and rubber gloves which she promptly took off and lit a cigarette. The irony.
  11. I have about 20 watches myself. The oldest being a still working mechanical diver style watch from Sears that I got for Christmas in late 70s.
  12. Didn't know we were posting photos. Ok here is a model of mine (not a model from my mouth), I have two implants and on those implants sits a 3 tooth bridge exactly as shown below. Not shown, the implant is anchored in the jaw.
  13. I’ve probably spent as much or more on dentist than on doctors. Root canals, crowns, skin grafts, extractions when the tooth failed anyway. Also have two implants on which sits a 3 tooth bridge, plus a traditional bridge on the opposite side When the implants were placed, I had to wait about 5 months for gums and jaw to heal before the bridge was put in, during which I had only one lower molar to chew/grind food with. Smoked through the whole process though. You’d think I’d have given serious thought to quitting then, but I didn’t. I inherited bad teeth from parents. Throw in long term effects of chemotherapy PLUS smoking, all combined to ruin my dental health. So, yet another way to save money by quitting.
  14. Coke does have a caffeine free option. I personally can’t tell any difference.
  15. Coming up on 5 years Retired. My days are consumed by software programming/engineering (whatever it’s called these days). Released my first Application on the App Store a few weeks ago. And... waiting my turn for covid vaccine.
  16. That sounds like a zombie move plot. When I have one, I’m smoking in some normal situation.
  17. If they’re smokers trying to “get you “back” just ignore them. You’ll have the last laugh when you successfully quit and maintain it. They are envious of you for having the Will power to quit and stay quit if it’s anyone/everyone else giving you grief. Are they giving you grief because you quit and might me anxious or slightly irritable for a few weeks. Again I say just ignore them. Politely end the conversation or encounter and turn/walk away. if it’s your boss that’s a different problem altogether. Check into your workplace conduct policy or guidelines or with HR
  18. Great posts! Just needed to work in a two quitters for the price of one offer and maybe a 1-800 number
  19. Werthers hard candy. Gives you something to suck on. You don’t want to go from being a smoker to being an alcoholic right. Besides if you get buzzed you’re more likely to start smoking again
  20. Have to ask. Being devil’s advocate, are you or will you be trading on tobacco companies? Quite the conundrum as we all know they’re profitable
  21. The 1st time yes. Was smoke free for 14 weeks, then stupidly thought I would have just one, which turned into two the next day and so on. I smoked an additional 7 months after that, feeling like a failure each time I lit up. Finally I reached that true "want to quit" attitude/mindset. So my doctor renewed the prescription and I began again. I stopped smoking when I was about halfway through the 3 months medication and also stopped the medication the next day, because I felt it was unnecessary with my new attitude (that doesn't mean you or anyone else should stop the medication like I did, everyone is different). I knew this was THE quit. Heck, I quit in the middle of the afternoon, I smoked my last cigarette (figuratively and literally), right after lunch. I didn't even want the cigarette, and only smoked it out of habit. The moral of the story: Don't expect the Chantix to be a silver bullet, it will make smoking less satisfying and ease the withdrawal, but YOU (Linda) are still required to do the heavy lifting of quitting, to get into that "want to quit" mindset, to get through the cravings, to identify and avoid triggers, and commit yourself to not smoking again. Ever.
  22. I also used it successfully. Coming up on 4.5 years smoke free. Consult with your doctor first. Well you have to to get the prescription here in the US

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
