  5. That's a Sturgis shirt from 2006. I take old t-shirts on my trips and throw them away each day. Makes more room in bike. Do it with socks and underwear too but got to hide them or Boo will take them. Law Enforcement has Got Bosses With Long Necks. They Got Their Heads up their ass so far they look out their belly buttons.

  9. You've got it now. And on another topic, yes, you can stand the withdrawals. Many of us smoked for 40 years or more, and if we can do it, you can, too! It is uncomfortable, sometimes miserable, and you will have lots of physical and emotional reactions. None of these will kill you, regardless of how it might feel for a few minutes. Drink lots of water and have frequent snacks. You can do this!

  11. You can make it the last time that you quit! It's been two days. One more day and nicotine will be absent from your body and then it's all psychological.

  17. So Bakon, I am guessing based on the shirt and another post you made in a thread that you are law enforcement? so let me ask about something - We know in any job, the workers never do things good enough, never fast enough. We hear, "How come it isn't perfect? Why is it taking so long?" So in police work, do the bosses do the same thing? Nothing is ever fast nor good enough?

  21. Distract yourself in what ever way works for you Latoya. For the first few days, I binge watched movies and stayed on here a lot, reading, reading and watching videos about this addiction. It really helped me understand just what smoking is. There's also a games page here that you can navigate around and spend mindless hours just distracting yourself. Learn to embrace the quit process because your body and mind are once again learning how to function like they did before you started smoking. It takes a while but everything does for sure get better as long as you just resist the urge to smoke again - NOPE is the key! Not One Puff Ever

  23. ^^^ Yes - this is true (what MQ said). See the addiction for what it is and know that it does nothing positive for you

  24. Hang in there, Latoya. You can do this! All of us here are doing it.

  25. There's no right or wrong way to quit Latoya. Many use NRT items such as the patch, gum or spray. Others use Chantix or similar aids to help them quit. Using an aid will mean you need to discontinue it at some point but the thinking is that by time you will be able to handle it better. Myself, I used patches for the first couple of days then just said the heck with them! It may have been more difficult but after a few days, I had the nicotine out of my body. Then, there was just the mental part of quitting - you know, learning to deal with not smoking while living my life again as a non-smoker. It has worked out for me though. Commitment to quitting is very important!

  26. MQ is right, Latoya. It's all up to you. It's the easiest and paradoxically also the hardest part of this quit journey. No one can make you smoke; at the same time, no one can quit for you. Just stay away from smoking, no matter how you feel, what is happening, who is annoying, hurting, enraging you, etc., etc., etc.. No excuses, no exceptions, just don't smoke and you will be successful. Take smoking off the table as an option and get on with your life. As time goes on, it will get easier. It's that simple. Please note I said "simple" not "easy". How easy it is depends predominantly on your mindset. Looking forward to hearing about your journey, PeaceTrain

  30. The picture of that tank full of cigarettes is a very good quit tool . Can you imagine them smouldering .. the smell .. ug ! What would those glass windows look like ? . Would we actually be able to see through them ? Do you remember a time when in hospitals they had those glass rooms and people sat in there and smoked . I was one of those people and when I got a chance I would go outside instead because the smell would almost make me vomit . I would send anyone I could to go buy me a pack if I was getting low or should say three packs just in case you know. Boy it sure makes you appreciate not smoking . No more stressful moments like those .

  36. If I had known how simple it is to quit, and about the tremendous benefits that would wait for me as a non-smoker, I would have quit many years ago. Cristóbal

  37. Arynn, it makes me really happy to see a young person like you come to their senses and dump this stupid addiction at 24. Many of us on this forum were already hooked before it was known how harmful smoking is. It seems like lately so many young people have forgotten or disregard the dangers of smoking and are puffing away thinking it’s cool (again). Good for your for putting a stop to it and got honoring your dad in that way. Keep posting and “talking” about how you’re doing. KTQ! (Keep that quit!)

  38. Keep busy Jules...do anything..jigsaws crosswords ..what ever takes your interest...just don't smoke !!!

  39. Welcome back Jules. I know NOPE seems redundant to some, but it is vital to a successful quit. The addicted mind left to its own devices will always barter, bargain, manipulate and present the addict with a million-and-one reasons why that one cigarette right now is no big issue. NOPE puts the kibosh on the incessant noise created by addiction. It's a simple plan: commit to never smoke again and be relentless and unwavering in that commitment. Good call. Proceed.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
