April 14, 20206 yr News from Sazerac's Bunker Celebrating my first 30 days in lock-down. Y'all will be also, I expect. Time for Sazerac cocktails all around and a toast to our mental health (or lack thereof) except I am out of Cognac and dry myself for months. A virtual cheers, y'all ! No forays to a store, no deliveries (except from angel's unexpected gift of fresh veg the other week) and going through 2019 Hurricane Supplies and freezer. Not going hungry. Losing weight. Paying attention to vital nutrition and will improve my supply list for new emergencies. It's been a useful experiment. Painting, carving, drawing, gardening, writing and loosing all concept of time except to know whether it is light or dark outside and it is Spring. The Jasmine wall in my courtyard is swollen and pungent to the extreme. Gardenia about to compete. Sunflowers up, Moon Flowers also. Vines reaching and traveling. Wish I had gotten my summer veg/herbs in, especially considering the circumstances. The virus hasn't affected any personal loved ones, except one friend was quarantined with symptoms and recovered and an elderly mother of a friend is diagnosed, not a good prognosis. We have BKP who survived here, we are lucky on QTrain so far. I worry about all of you. Our smoker's lungs, you know.... I hear a few people breaking down in the street, the full on melt down of a couple. Sad. Where is the homeless guy on the corner who watches out for me and I, him ? Deserted. Otherwise, peaceful silence. Birds. NO CARS ! No beer delivery trucks rumbling through, no human cacophony. I have to admit, I don't miss the noise and pollution, I wish it would never return. Many, many calls and emails from friends around the world. Some friends, my gregarious friends, the ones always out doing stuff, are having a hard time. They call me a lot and speak for a long time. I can't say, oh I've got to go because they know I can't go anywhere ! lol. Now, I limit my calls, had to before it made me crazy. I hope y'all are doing OK. Love seeing the new quitters arrive, love watching them emerge as free persons. It is a bright spot in this world so dark, dark of late. Stay well. Be careful and safe. Tell me how it is for you. S

April 14, 20206 yr More or less the same time as you Saz...and I believe we are about to have three weeks more ... What has doorbell been up to .... Firstly ...all my family and friends are well....and keeping to the rules ..... My son visits on his motor bike ..bringing goodies ...he parks up on my front path ,where I sit half way up the hall ,so we can have a good natter ....miss giving him a mama hug ....even though he's a big bloke lol... Talk to my grandkids on face time ...missing them so much .... Chat to Nicky in Australia every day ....to check we are ok ... Go shopping once a week ... Wednesdays....very early as the shop opens ,to avoid most people ...then spend ages washing it all... I garden ..my new Apple tree has shoots ....I'm very excited .... I excercise every day .... Try to keep busy .... Although we have technology....I'll admit to getting lonely some days .....missing my lunch dates with friends . Good job I have my Ted ...he,s a good companion.... Wishing and hoping it all ends soon ...
April 14, 20206 yr Yep, same as you guys. I have everything either delivered or my husband goes and gets it because he's going anyway. Would really like him to be more careful. He's never been seriously ill before so can't appreciate how much it sucks so as to be much more careful. People, mostly realtors, are still calling him to do roof inspections and leak repairs even though they themselves are unwilling to go in to strangers houses and they're sending a form for him to sign acknowledging the risk of doing so. This quite frankly makes me sick but I have been able to talk him out of going into strangers houses so far. My primary Dr is only doing phone appointments now which is much different then a month ago when it was my choice whether or not to come in. My new pulmonologist is so busy at the hospital that my first appointment with him has been postponed twice now. We have 37 hospital workers sick as of yesterday's update. And we're having a pretty bad outbreak in the Federal prison in our county. Cancelled my housecleaners that come once a month, too risky to have them come since they're going into a lot of homes and offices. Cancelled my blood test for glucose levels because of the six foot social distancing. And like you Doreen, I feel lucky have my Cookie and Tiki to keep me company

April 14, 20206 yr G’day The old fart, the old timer. The part timer. Always ready to fill the gapes. Well that was 30 days ago and they are all gone from the manager to the apprentice. Im now it. Watch on stop on. The work loads not to bad. But it’s lots of hand washing and social distancing. Dealing with scared and lonely people. Lots of calls “are you still open?” “will you still stay open?” Yes I’m still here for the long haul. Home to my sweetheart at night. Decontaminate from the world outside and make her as happy as I can. Very conscious that she is home alone and I’ve at least talked to 10 people that day. Every week has changed so fast I wonder what the next week will bring? Chris

April 14, 20206 yr Author Still heading off to work my experience is different...off to work, decontaminate at the door, walk past the screen and have that micro second stomach drop to see if the temperature alarm will ping...head home after walking past that dang machine again....home, cook dinner, sit there going insane. Weekend, pop out and get the shopping. But my life is not that different. Lucky none of my mob are affected so far.

April 15, 20206 yr Hello from the Covid-19 epicenter of the US! 😷 I check this link every morning.....and it just keeps increasing! Especially for my township which now has the highest # of confirmed cases in Suffolk County. Suffolk County NY Covid19 Confirmed Cases Side note: I retired from the county last year and worked in IT...so I know the people involved in getting this information online and out to county residents...IT staff is now working from home but other staff have to report to their duty stations on staggered schedules....all very stressful, I am told! I go out to the grocery store every 2 weeks (it's a small one within walking distance of my house). I wash my hands before I leave my house. When I arrive at store I grab a disinfectant wipe at the door, wipe down the cart and proceed into the store following the yellow arrows which now go one way down each aisle. No time for browsing....have list of what I need and try to stay 6 ft away from others at all times. I find myself holding my breath if others get to close to me (please, please pay attention people!) and I just keep slowly moving my way through the store. Oh, wow, there is a display at the end of an aisle which holds 12 packs of Scott's toilet tissue! Score! I throw one in my cart. No such luck w hand sanitizer. I still have 2 little tiny bottles of that so I don't panic....maybe they will have some next time. Okay, time to check out! There is a new procedure for checking out...stand at the yellow X marked on floor at the end of the belt and wait til person ahead of you has paid, placed their bags in their cart and is moving toward the exit door. Next! The cashier is wearing a mask and gloves....I am wearing a mask. You don't see smiles anymore.....but we greet each other with muffled hellos. When I get home I bring in my bags, put the items away, wipe down my credit card and my bags with a Chlorox sanitizing wipe. Put bags back in my car. Then I go back inside my house, wipe down the doorknob and then close my front door. Then I wash my hands again for at least 20 seconds. I feel a sense of relief....like I have just run through a gauntlet of invisible danger . 😲 Sad news: I had to send one of my two dogs to the Rainbow Bridge last month. I miss my Miloshka boy terribly and am thankful I still have little Panda to keep me on my toes....along with my crazy Cockatoo, Kooka, my parakeet, Goldy, and my cockatiel, Charlie. Lots of whistling, chirping and shout outs throughout the day around here! 😏 Starting to plan my yard work while waiting for the weather to clear up...it's been stormy lately! 🤨
April 15, 20206 yr I'm so sorry about your Miloshka pup, Rozuki. Such a very tough loss but I'm glad Panda and the birds are keeping you busy and singing harmony. I can relate to every step in your trip to and from the store. It really is stressful right now and I feel worn out by the time I unpack and wipe down. April 15, 20206 yr @Rozuki I am so sorry about the loss of your pet. We have many up there that will play with her/him. Yeah I thought I hit it big with the Scotts but it was one ply. So glad you are staying safe. It is so bad in New York.

Your description of venturing out to the store mirrors my own experience these days as I suspect it does for all of us. We will get through this but it's certainly an unsettling ride at the moment! April 15, 20206 yr I spent most of the last couple of days helping my parents clean up storm damage on the family farm. We had tornadoes and high winds sweep through the area on Easter night. Their house wasn't damaged but a tree did fall across one of the barns and another tree fell across the driveway. They're both safe but a little rattled. The worst of the storms passed to the south of where I live now, so Sugar Britches and the little bundle of joy are safe and sound. Back in January, there was talk of World War III kicking off. Then the global pandemic knocked that out of the headlines. And now...natural disasters! Hey current year, take two of these and go f**k yourself!
