@notsmokinjo I understand the love and support contained in PMs.

I'm not deleting Piggy's either,  we all have a lonesome space left by Senor Porcini.

Ask MQ.  He might say, 'Why yes, Jo ! I would love to enable your hoarding disorder and will give you unlimited pms'.

Now, about this pandemic.

I trust all our members will take care not to inflame the situation.

Please cite sources and refrain from gossip, rumor, hearsay.

How to protect yourself from The New Orleans Health Department

Wash your hands with soap and water often. Use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.

Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

Stay home if you feel sick to prevent the spread of any infection.

Cover your cough with your elbow to prevent the spread of germs.

Healthy individuals do not need to wear a face mask.

Get the flu vaccination to help prevent the flu, which has similar symptoms as COVID-19.

Have adequate food and medication on hand, so that you don't have to go to the store while sick.

And importantly !  DON'T  SMOKE !

There are some horrifying statistics about the virus and smokers

True story: Girl in my area at work coughed... then said she felt like crap.... and one of the blokes packed up and went home just to be safe.

G’day

posted this before but this is a better place for it

G’day

I’m going into a local shopping centre, there’s little mister 1 1/2 toddling along with mum and dad in tow.

The Mum.....”You realise if we don’t get nappies this time I’m going to cut the towels into 1/2 and make cloth nappies.”

The Dad..... “just like the hippies.”

The Mum.....”Yep.. and with you working from home you’ll have time to wash them!”

The Dad.... To the little Guy “Hey buddy recon it’s time for toilet training! Dad will show you how to piss on the lemon tree?”

The Mum ...... “ Really? Be serious!”

  The Dad....  “ I Am”

We live in strange times.....

Old wives tales...that work...

Linden tea...helps with fever, minor flu/cold symptoms, eases sore throats, relaxes and good for high blood pressure...have it with fresh lemon juice and honey....if you are having trouble getting paracetamol/Panadol/ibuprofen...thus will help with a low grade temp.

Mother of Thyme tea, good for coughs, inflammation, but also helps with multiple immune disorders...again honey and lemon it.

Honey, lemon & ginger in hot water.

Ginger has antiseptic qualities, is good for your immune system. Lemon is antiseptic and a nice VitC boost. Honey is a natural antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory and soothing.

Irish grandma's haven't been pushing this shit on us for centuries without it being beneficial.

Temperatures are how your body fights and kills an infection...you do need to go through this to get better, that said it gets too high and it can cause other issues...so my rule of thumb with a temp is under 39°C just suck it up, sip some water, use a cold compress (I soak my flannel in water that has baye leaves in it...cos grandma did)..but that's it...once I hit 39 the meds come out....did you know that you can piggyback paracetamol and ibuprofen...so Panadol is usually once every 6 hrs... ibuprofen every 4...in times of need you can do Paracetamol then 3 hours later ibuprofen (or vice versa)... ibuprofen has more side effects and you should try and have done food with it to help your tummy.

Anyone else got some home remedies to help....I nice chicken noodle soup recipe?

We need to remember to trust our bodies' ability to fight bio-invaders. Yes we all get sick sometimes, and most of the time we don't get sick because our bodies are positively amazing at fighting off bio-invaders. Let's follow the recommendations to thwart the spread of this disease, and let's also remember to not allow our fears to convince us we are doomed to get sick.

May I guess something - he was a less productive worker and/or has attendance problems to begin with?

But yes, to avoid spreading things, it is important to cover one's mouth when coughing or sneezing and cover your butt when you fart.  (awkward silence) Oh shut up,  NO that wasn't a pun!

About the Sheldon meme - NOOOOO kidding!

Actually no...he is a germophobe though...the cleans his keyboard, desk and phone constantly and even before covid19 he didn't do hand shakes.

Hey @JB 883 how ya been?

Edited by notsmokinjo

Oh pretty good.

Just living my life as normal. Working, sleeping, buy junk at thrift AND pretending to work at my job.

One of the guys on our team says he has coronavirus. When I asked him about it, he said, "Yep, and also swine flu." I said, "What next? West Nile?!"" He said he is working on it.

And this is one of the tamer conversations one might hear on our team.

I have been thinking though - corn is a big item in summer. I wonder if people will hoard that and use the corn cobs for "hygiene" if TP stays a shortage.

Someone on another forum asked if I would be laughing if I caught corona. You know, I probably WOULD find humor in it.

I did do something Friday to stay safe though. I replaced the front struts on my car. They were WAY overdue.

I get asked similar things, and everyone at work freaks because I am still public transporting..but I the day to think I'd be trying to crack a joke about it as I took my last breath...well I'd be pickled in gin by then so I definately tip there would be bad taste jokes.

I just took a dump in someone's Easter basket. Bear with me...

I am a light user of FB. One of my friends on there whom I met at the other quit forum (before it closed) is really into this covid-19 preparedness.

Staying home if able, keeping the kids at home, using lysol, trying to warn others, etc...

I asked a simple question, why some people are horrified of corona yet are NOT concerned what smoking/vaping is doing to their health. I am pretty sure she does one or the other or maybe both.

I shall get my popcorn ready to see the response, if I don't get blocked.

BTW one of my friends at work said, "I have been pissing off the neighbors since I won't have to worry about my house getting TP'ed".

Are you still smoking, @JB 883 ?  or, have you quit without telling us or changing your quit date ?

Have you seen the statistics concerning smokers ?

You know, we often emphasize that quitting smoking saves lives now,  with COVID-19,  the truth is upon us.

"Smoking is associated with increased development of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)

in people with a risk factor like severe infection, non-pulmonary sepsis (blood infection), or blunt trauma.

People who have any cotinine (a metabolite of nicotine) in their bodies –

even at the low levels associated with secondhand smoke – have substantially increased risk of acute respiratory failure from ARDS

(paper 1, paper 2paper 3). "

"the odds of disease progression (including to death) were 14 times higher among people with a history of smoking

compared to those who did not smoke.   This was the strongest risk factor among those examined".
