What a great post, @notsmokinjo ! I am so glad you quit smoking and are beginning to appreciate yourself. You are an incredible being. This is one of the great gifts of quitting smoking, the ability to change. The ability to make truthful assessments of ourselves and choose to accept things or change them. The inner power, the self-confidence, the profound trust in ourselves that we can now nurture instead of the focus being on poisoning ourselves, it is an incredible metamorphosis and every person who has quit smoking knows exactly what I mean, what Jo means. p.s. I know well the rabbit holes of our archives, I have a sort of fetish to link everything together. lol.

The thing about relapse, or considering it...

I think dried are far superior to canned, as long as they haven't been sitting on the shelf since The Dark Ages. That is why I make purchases at ethnic food shops, people that consider dried beans staples will have the freshest dried products.

Congratulations on 49 days of not smoking. I am sure you have stirred up your smoking patterns and dealt with some triggers. Thank you for checking in, it is good to hear you are still with us. You won't be 'messing up' or 'slipping up' if you smoke. These word are far too innocuous when stark truth is needed. If you smoke, you will have willfully relapsed and failed yourself. Don't do it. This quitting is serious business. You will stop the damage from nicotine and end your suffering when you stop administering nicotine. It takes three days for most of nicotine to be eliminated from your body.

I also recommend sourcing the freshest beans possible. This makes a huge difference. I go to my Latin markets for Black and Pinto Beans. Mid Eastern markets for Chick Peas, lentils. Italian markets for White Beans, Chick Peas too. Red Beans and Black-eyes are popular here so, the 'normal' market's supplies tend to be fresh. You can also sprout all these beans for salads etc.

Congratulations to you and Quita, Jimmy ! Seven Years of Freedom. Beautiful. What's going on with your ticker ?

I'll use your formula for making the balls and just substitute Za'atar spice to the mix instead of Ital and use yogurt instead of a tomato sauce. I want to recommend making your own beans from dried. It is easy in a slow cooker or easy/quick/superior texture in an instant cooker. The citric acid and other preservatives in canned beans tastes awful to me and rinsing doesn't quite remove it. Plus, I want to keep as many chemical preservatives out of my bod as I can. I love the line in the movie clip from @BAT, "People say I am strong as a bull. Never seen a bull eat meat"

thanks, @catlover. May not do them Italian, may do more Middle Eastern and have with a raita. I make hummus so often, these shapes will be nice for a change. I don't buy plant based meat products.

Ooh, would love the recipe for chick pea balls...like falafel ? or with cooked chickpea ? I make nut balls often, chopped fine nuts of choice, caramelized onion/garlic, parmesean or aseago or ? egg, bread crumbs if needed, also makes a fine nut loaf. Do try those black 'caviar' lentils, they are incredible. White beans are my fav lately. I love my newish instant cooker/pressure cooker. Raw beans come out incredibly creamy in short time.

I felt like a caged animal for a few days, when I wasn't sleeping. Breathing deep and barking at will. Hollering Free Your Head. Eating satsumas. Everybody's quit is different, every quit is different (if you have failed quits in the past). Here is what got a lot of us through the First Days Nicotine Free. I hope you add your experience.

Newbie Here and 44 Days Nicotine-Free!
Sazerac replied to Angeleek's topic in Introductions & About Us
Welcome, @Angeleek and congratulations on your 44/45 day quit ! I quit and lurked here and there for 10 months before joining. I think of lurkers all the time, there are many eyes out there and hopefully, we help. Joel Spitzer's videos helped me learn about my nicotine addiction and still do. I am a huge advocate of his work. Joel Spitzer's Quit Smoking Library You may also find this thread helpful, 10 Ways To Effectively Use This Forum To Stop Using Nicotine -
@Warrior The shit will stop when you stop poisoning yourself with nicotine. Make a commitment to yourself and hold fast to it. This is the only path to freedom !

arghh...it makes me crazy that when we have an emotional calamity we often choose self-destruction in order to deal with it. It is so counter-intuitive and oh so human. Being nicotine addicts, the weapon du jour will always be tobacco, of course. I am so glad you didn't go on to smoke more, that you caught yourself is amazing and reason to celebrate. You have been free for 13 days, Betty. Congratulations ! I wonder if you are thinking thoughts of cigarettes because you do have control over them where you may be feeling you have no power in other parts of your life. Our mind plays infinite games with us when we are not paying full attention or when things are not right or when things suddenly change. When you are experiencing craves, have a think about H.A.L.T. (are you Hungry/thirsty, Angry/emotional, Lonesome/bored, Tired) Riffing On H.A.L.T. You are smarter that your addiction, Betty. Do not be a doubter and remember your power. S
