  2. That's great OMC ! Quitting gave us the tools to deal with all sorts of other issues in our lives. I was sober from mid November-mid February and after my soiree in February hopped back on the wagon. I feel so much better.
  3. Our SOS board has saved quits. SOS Do not hesitate to post an SOS and wait for us to respond. Also, this thread is important, Pre-Respond To Your Own SOS In your own words, it reminds you why you quit and helps up respond to you
  4. First of all, congratulations on quitting smoking four days ago ! You may find this thread helpful 10 Ways To Effectively Use This Forum To Stop Using Nicotine The most important component to being free of nicotine is to commit and stand by that commitment to NOPE. Not One Puff Ever. Education about nicotine addiction is another tool to ensure a successful quit. The more you understand about addiction, the easier it is to go through the de-tox, everything makes sense. Read read read read. We have a pretty cohesive library, please avail yourself and bump any posts that resonate with you. The sooner you force yourself to think about something/anything rather than smoking, the easier the journey becomes. I would take really deep breaths and find something of beauty to look at, that light on that leaf, for example or, find a happy memory, a song etc and use as a prompt. Shake your body ! Reward yourself ! This will encourage a release of endorphins that nicotine gangstered away from you. So glad you are sharing your quit with us.

  7. You have done marvelous work by educating yourself, Angeleek, and have built yourself a fine, sturdy quit. I am so glad you are sharing your quit with us ! I quit on a whim, cold turkey, and did not prepare at all. I just decided I would try not smoking for a year as an experiment, if I didn't like it, I could always smoke again. Days in, I found Joel Spitzer's Video Library and my education began. I couldn't 'turn if off like a light switch'. It took almost a year of craves and triggers for my brain to be really Free, reliably free, consistently free but, I knew from the very first day that I was committed to my 'experiment' and the power behind that commitment propelled me through the gnarly times.

  11. Alcohol has contributed to the failure of many a quit. I stayed away from drinking for a while until I felt really solid in my quit.
  12. Check out some videos and switch up your brain. Are you Hungry ? Angry/ Emotional, Lonesome, Tired ? Riffing on H.A.L.T Are you still with us ?
  13. The nicotine is gone from your body there is no reason to re-introduce it to your body. Think of what Sirius says, "The next time a craving plunks down on your face ask yourself, "What price you are willing to pay to own yourself?" Don't smoke. Take a screaming shower, go for a run. You don't have to smoke, it is just the addiction needling you.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
