The morning "Zoo Crew" on KZ-106 in Chattanooga used to play that song all the time. I had forgotten all about it. Now I begin the process of trying to forget it again...right back to square one.

Keeping with the fishing theme....and it's been a couple of weeks since I posted a John Prine song.

"Can I get a setlist?" "Just play what Chuck tells you to play...and don't f*** it up!"

Welcome to the Quit Train Mysticcat. Congratulations on building a strong quit for yourself. Several members here hopped on the Train after another quit smoking forum went down. Grab a seat and stay awhile.

Welcome aboard Steve. Good call on giving up the smokes. Trust the process. Enjoy the freedom.

Just kicked it away and went on with the rest of your day. The cigarette has as much or as little power as we give it. A cigarette can be either the object that enslaves and eventually kills us or it can be just another bit of inanimate debris that is easily discarded. A change in perception can go a long way in changing your life.

And by all accounts, Levon was one of the nicest guys you could ever want to meet.

You questioned the power of Elvis but That's All Right Mama. Eventually, you put your faith in Elvis and the King steered ya right.

Not a bad one in the bunch and I'm always hesitant to vote against the original. That being said, I voted for Jeff Buckley. Just because it was his cover that introduced me to the song and it still ranks as one of my favorite songs of all time. Damn shame about Jeff Buckley...another tremendous talent gone too soon.

Is it this one?

Do yourself a favor and don't do that. There is only one "right" way to quit: DON'T SMOKE! If you didn't smoke, congratulations you're doing it right. Quitting smoking is a pass/fail test with only one question to answer. S-I-M-P-L-E...Simple! The stresses that you adapt to and overcome today will make you stronger tomorrow.

Cognitive dissonance is as vital to addiction as the drug of choice itself. The very moment you drop your defense of the addiction and allow yourself to accept the truth, the entire myth of the cigarette unravels immediately. We all accepted bullshit as holy writ while still feeding our addiction. Deluding ourselves was necessary to keep feeding the very beast that was killings us. The truth is the arch enemy of addiction.

In my opinion: the biggest benefit gained from a fast is autophagy. Autophagy is induced by reduced or insufficient intake of nutrients. That leads to cells creating membranes that seek out damaged or dead cells and uses them for energy to create new cells. It is a cleanse of sorts but should not be put in the same category as "juice cleanses" or "kale cleanses" or whatever other nonsense cleanse is being promoted today Autophagy also should not be confused with being in a catabolic state where "muscle starts to eat itself." Autophagy is simply a matter of the body recycling damaged cells and using existing protein parts to build new and functional proteins. Autophagy and and reduced inflammation are great reasons to consider the occasional fast. As for my personal experience: I pretty much stay on an intermittent fasting schedule in which I have a 6-8 hour window in which I eat. I'm not on a diet per se, I've just found that to be the schedule that works best for me. The amount that I eat during that window fluctuates from day-to-day. On days where I eat very little, usually following a day where I have consumed more calories than normal, my energy levels are good and I feel like it gives my system a chance to regulate itself. At the risk of sharing too much information, it is not uncommon for me to poop more on days when I eat very little but drink a lot of water. It's not a bad idea to flush things out from time-to-time. All that being said...experiment and tune in to your body. A nutrition plan that is perfect for me may be awful for someone else. One closing note: ask yourself why you are considering a fast. If it is for genuine health benefits, I think a prolonged fast 2-3 times a year is a good thing. If you're doing it for weight loss, I would advise against fasting. Fasting for weight loss has a way of reinforcing a bad relationship with food that only prolongs the downward spiral of unhealthy eating habits.

I think traditional trick-or-treating is becoming a thing of the past; i.e., kids going door-to-door. Where I live, a local elementary school was turned into a gathering spot for all the little ghouls and goblins last night. They decorated the playground, called it "Spookyville", and local businesses donated candy that was given out in the gym.
