Heat wave !

Featured Replies

Oh my , I do love heat but this kinda heat only by the beach Lol ! No AC . Very few people do have AC here . We are cold country . We are in a historic dome of record breaking high temps for the next eight days possibly more . We reach the melting point Wednesday reaching 100 F . ( I expect it will top that . ) ( we've already had some hot days ) it's the most consecutive hot days we've had in history as well .

Yesterday was fried egg day on the pavement , today may be a hot air corn on the cob for dinner day .

We of course are concerned about heat exhaustion for the vulnerable but in true provincial spirit and style everyone has come together taking water , sun hats , light clothing and other necessities to those in need .

Dogs are indoors taking cool down baths too . Jam session postponed , and they have AC in the building !  It's smokin hot and grateful I don't have to go outside to smoke a cigarette !

Hows the temp in your neighbourhood ?

Are these kind of temperatures normal for you ?

It is currently 82 F here at 1:00ish in central North Carolina.  It is actually a little cool for this time of the year but the humidity is off the charts.

I don't miss smoking in the humid weather, or smoking at all anymore.

Humidity here on the Cumberland Plateau today was 287%.

Don't check the math, you can take my word for it.

It his been so stinkin hot here also.  You walk out the door and it catches your breath.  This weather also brings the intermittent thunderstorms.  The air conditioning feels good but hate not being able to work in the yard.

It is hotter here in Michigan than it is in California!! What the Hell!!The Simpsons Summer GIF

I never really minded the thunderstorms in the summer.  Miss Maddie has a different opinion.  The little gal does not like the sound of thunder.

I did my best to explain what a thunderstorm is to her, as best as you can explain anything to a one-year old.  Didn't change her mind one iota...she is not a fan of loud meteorological events.

Hey @Boo, I remember the thunderstorms you guys get over there and they can be scary, no matter the age! Awesome to watch the lightening but the thunder can be nerve racking!

All my dogs are pansies and afraid of thunder.   They all want mommies lap.  What is worse is the 4th of July, when we have the fireworks.  I have not found a brave golden retriever yet.  My last two had to be tranquillized on the 4th of July.

You could get a big ol' lazy black lab.

Loud noises don't bother Cash.  He's not bothered by much.

There was one night when when the booming of thunder woke him up.  He snorted through his nose, looked at me, then got up and walked away.  I don't why he got all huffy with me...I didn't have anything to do with the thunder.

Different strokes for different folks , same for pets in my house . One dog is not at all bothered by storms ( that's the little one ) and the big one hides and hates them . I like storms just ones though that don't threaten tornados . Lived through that once .  l never want to go through that again.

We are continuing to hit record temps here , in fact it's a bit scary . Many people in BC Canada have died , and I expect there will be more as weather is continuing to be hot a few more days . It unusual here for it to be this hot especially in June . One hundred twenty one degree record yesterday . Forty nine point Five C

Seventy  eight percent of people here do not have AC .

I like the heat , I'm fairing well actually . Mall walks in mid afternoon with Ac there make the rest of the day bearable at home . I really do prefer it over our winters .

Stay safe everyone . We open tomorrow, no more masks other than public transit , indoor dining back in full capacity . Everything open . I hope this is not a mistake , variants still concerning . The little ones under twelve still not vaccinated .

@Abby, are you in BC?  It's in the news with the number of heat deaths.  Sudden heat deaths I think it was called.

On the weekend, I had gone for a run in the evening and perfect strangers were offering me water.  I knew the humidity was getting to me but since I couldn't see myself I don't know what it was they saw that made them offer it.  (oh, this was just outside Toronto).

It's horrible @d2e8b8 Bc deaths 3 hundred and some people so far , mostly elderly and now the evacuation of the entire town of Lytton BC . It's been the hot spot for the past three days . Yesterday was 49.5C .  Fire ripped through there this evening , its not looking good the town may be gone . Just hoping everyone made it  out safely . They didn't have much time and pets and livestock had to be left behind . I'm in AB close to BC border .

Doing ok yet here but you can smell the siding on the houses like its melting . Even pavement lifting .  Hard breathing for this asthmatic . Thank gosh I don't smoke !

I got the ice packs out tonight trying to keep cool .  Sweltering hot and no cool down at all at night . One more day to go and then a bit of  cool down I think . Thank goodness .

Everything is burning up with the heat and water restrictions . Records being shattered that is for sure. This wave goes right into the states . Stay cool 😎 there and hydrated .

Our temp has stayed under 100f for the most part, We have also been having some rain that helps keep the heat down.  I could not go without AC, the few times it went out, I was off to family or nearest hotel.  That is common here with the heat.  We even set up emergency shelters where people can go to cool down and /or stay overnight in the shelters.  We lose people to the heat every year, mostly elderly or homeless. It is horrible!!

Yes @Kris many have taken to renting a hotel room here as well .

I feel devastated this morning for those who've had to flee their homes with absolutely nothing .  It's unknown yet if any of the village still stands but the main thing is hopefully everyone is safe .  That village and those folks are close to my heart ❤️ for many reasons .

Today I believe is our last over the top hot day . The ice packs worked great last night . Thank goodness I still have power to keep those ice packs frozen . Power is out in other areas .

I don't think there will be a lot of Canada day celebrations today . My concern is the fireworks . Is it necessary ? It's set off in various areas . Some just by home owners and others by the city . Im able to see them sitting on my deck . I hope at the very least they put it off and think safety first . It's so dry . Any spark could mean trouble . It's not worth it .

Now is the time to continue our safe practises in regard to covid ,  think of those hurting from all the hardships financially and emotionally and spiritually that our people and our country has had to face this year . The money put into fireworks could be much better spent . It saddens me . I'm not celebrating today .

Every star in the sky is my reminder to me just how precious life and love is . It's life , its death . It's love . I don't need fireworks to mark anything !

Thanks for allowing me to just get this off my heavy heart today . Smoking . Never ever one puff ever  ! What a waste . Think I'll donate this smokeless week to a better cause . It's definitely not to big tobacco companies .

I think all fires cigarette caused , Big T needs to own up to ...... don't get me started lol !  We need to stand up against them , not just quit smoking .

Dear Abby,

I am so sorry that your are suffering so much from the situation there.  You are right to be concerned.  Here, the fireworks would be cancelled ( and have been before) if conditions were to dry or even if there are high winds.  I have to admit that we have people rebel and set them off when they have been told not to do it.  I have called the police on irresponsible home owners that have done this.  If they want to burn their own home down, they are not going to burn my down.  If they want to other people in danger, I will not allow it. Everyone  must stand together for the safety of the community. You would think that everyone would get this after what the world has gone thru with Covid but NO we still have people doing what they want without thinking of how it might effect others.  How can people be so selfish. They can because they have never suffered the hardship that our elderly, ill or homeless population.  They have not suffered the loss of their health , the loss of a job, the hardship of not having the money to pay their bills or put food on the table for their children.

There are those of us that have suffered hardship that donate to the community, to the churches, to try to help in some small way.  I will say that the people of Texas are good at trying to make a difference for people struggling.  I don't speak of politics but I need to say that I am ashamed of the governing body of Texas and our country right now for spending all this money and time on constructing a wall to keep citizens of Mexico who want to come to our country to make a better life for their families. How do they think we all got here, just dropped out of the sky?

No we came from other countries to build a better life for future generations.  Many peoples ancestors were brought here against their will and forced to work for others. What the hell is going on? Why do people not see this? Why do people not have respect for each other? People for the most point only think about their own situation, as long as they have what they want they have no reason to concern themselves with others.

Okay I will calm down, get off my high horse before I fall and break my neck. Sorry for this but your broken heart broke mine too.

It’s hot here in PA, but, of course, my son has central AC, so it’s all good. I am hoping to experience a good thunderstorm soon, as we don’t get them in Northern CA. I miss them. I haven’t experienced one in over 7 years. I don’t miss snow, though…
