  3. Congratulations Doreen on your 12 years quit! What an amazing accomplishment! You are such an inspiration to all of us on the Train, and we are all so proud of you! Since I have become your co-moderator, I have gotten to know you so much better, and I am so happy to call you my friend! You are a wonderful person and a definite asset to this site! In those early days of my quit when I was complaining and so irritable....LOL!!, you helped me so much when I thought I wouldn't be able to stay focused. In addition to helping me, you have helped countless others on this site with your words of wisdom, compassion, understanding and fantastic sense of humor! Congratulations again! All the best! P.S. I know your quit date is tomorrow, but I wanted to make sure you saw this either late tonight/early tomorrow morning UK time.

  8. When old-school Jonny5 (QSMB 2011-ish) left London on Holiday for Liverpool ... ... and The Sarge and Wife took a side flight from Rekjavik, Iceland (Ice Climbing The Glaciers (from home in Cincinnati)) to meet up with an old friend who quit at roughly the same time. We're up on 14 years this year - Jon & Sarge. (Mrs Sarge approaching 11 years) Love you guys!

  15. Yes, I hit a number of challenges around the 4 month mark too. I was beset by triggers. My mother died unexpectedly. Work blew up. Big stuff went wrong with the house. Quitting had become a strong pattern by then, but being a smoker was recent enough that the cravings and temptations were quite vivid. I felt empty and adrift… like I’d lost the part of my identity that was a smoker and I didn’t have a mental model for being a nonsmoker. It was a strange feeling of loss and limbo. Things turned a corner for me around the 6 month mark. That’s when some switch in my head flipped from abstinence (not smoking) into true recovery (mental, emotional and relational). Give it time and you’ll find a new groove. Meanwhile, congrats on 4 months!!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
