  3. Thank you my friends.. good to be here and have enjoyed all the help and comradery the train brings. Been a tough month for me and instead of the Happy Stew there has been some life problems. I'll bring Ya'll up to speed. I have gotten rid of two employees ,one was smoking drugs in the bathroom!! Since before my vacation I have been working constant "grueling" hours to pick up the slack. This is a 70' all electric hull design.. The completion date is August, at this rate we will not make this deadline. There are some serious fines written into the contract that would be devastating. Hope to find a couple more qualified employees soon? All work and no play really sucks. So being the brutis I am pushing a sore back to the limit without realizing my back wasn't just sore!!! I have pushed out what looks like two discs. As we speak they are scheduling a stat MRI then a shot for some relief then it look's like surgery? I cannot even put my socks or pants on by myself. To be a little funny there is no sleeping in when I have to use toilet paper.... The surgeon explained about the surgery do's and don'ts, top was get off the blood thinners "yea" the second was if I smoked!!!! Thats when the big fat wonderful NOPE!! was able to be used. As of late I haven't been very active on the train just my lifesaving Nope's and a little looking around before sleep and work. There may be more time for funny jokes and spankin chicks in the near future. Thank you all for my monthly birthday, funny how I look forward to each one starting the day after the last...... KTQ Cheers Stew.

  16. Gday To boil a Billy is to put your Billy ( round can with a lid)on a couple of rocks and make a fire of small sticks under the Billy. Use a small gas stove these days. Do drink coffee but like it with milk and fresh milk even with refrigeration gets shook to yoghurt on rough bush tracks. Much prefer a hot black tea 2 sugars.

  17. Gday Yes to drive on one of those you need one of these. This one’s fitted with a stick shift so no one born after 2000 could steal it.

  19. Yeah, I was there too early on in my quit. Those damn cravings just never stopped. One ran into the other I guess. It was terrible because it seems as if it's never gonna end but you just have to bear down and get through that phase. It won't last long and although it feels horrible right now, that won't last as long as it semems at the moment. Remember the only rule: Just don't smoke - ever!

  20. Thank you so much Stew and Denali, my friends!!! I really appreciate your help. Ohhh and Stewie, you are not far behind me, in 2 months you will be there as well!!! And, we will be celebrating your 1 year quit!!

  21. I feel you - been there. Hang tough. It feels wretched for a while, but this worst part DOES pass… and then you never have to go through withdrawal again! If you hang on till you make it to the other side, you’ll be glad you did. This early phase is a combo of physical and emotional withdrawal. Your addiction is putting up a fuss. Be kind to yourself, cry as needed, mourn the loss… that’s all part of letting your new free self emerge. Stay busy and keep the quit!

  24. Lol on the standard comment! That's all I'll drive and always have done. Mind you I was born well before 2000 If I go to a dealership for any maintenance, I usually have to drive it into the repair bay for them I never thought about having the stick by my left hand though. Hummm ... not sure I'd like that as I'm right handed. Suppose I could get used to it with time.

  27. Thanks for all the encouragement. I’m really struggling today. I’ve hardly been able to sleep the last 2 days, and I just feel so anxious. I know they say a craving only lasts about 10 minutes but I swear it feels like it’s been nonstop for 2 days.

  36. Great pics! Enjoy the Wedding and get together. The first pic of the divided highway struck me as odd somehow. Then it dawned on me that the cars on either side are driving in the wrong direction compared to what I'm used to seeing here where I live. Guess I forgot you must drive on the left in Australia

  40. Welcome back!! I didn't read the book, but I'm glad you decided to quit again and we all know how difficult it is. If quitting wasn't so difficult, this site wouldn't exist. Just take it one day at a time, one hour or minute at a time and keep coming on here a lot. I recommend you coming on every day, as it certainly has helped me and others. Vent to us when you need to as we are always here to help you! One thing that helped me early in my quit was using cinnamon sticks as fake cigarettes. I would suck air through the hole and make believe I was blowing smoke out of my mouth, plus the taste of cinnamon is so nice. If you don't like cinnamon, you can use cut up straws. This is my 2nd time quitting and the last because who wants to constantly go through those withdrawal symptoms every time we decide to quit! Not me, as it was horrible and I'm sure for most of us on this site. Just keep focusing on quitting and you will do fine. As I said, just stay close to The Train. All the best to you!!!

  42. Welcome back!! So wonderful to read your post and to learn you are back on the path to freedom. The sleep thing sux for a while, then gets better. Radically reducing my caffeine intake helped (turns out nicotine accelerated how my body processes the stuff… it hangs around forever now that I’ve quit), as did good sleep hygiene (no screens in/before bed) and listening to audiobooks at night. Sleeping pills in a pinch, monitored by my Dr. It gets better after a while. Hang in there!

  43. Sazerac Quit Date: October 23, 2013, A Good Day to be Free. Posted July 10, 2018 Some quit on a whim, others quit making a sensible plan and map it all out as best they can. There are many successful quits between the extremes. The important bit is the seminal moment in your life when you say, 'I quit smoking'. I spontaneously said, 'I've quit. If I don't feel better in a few days, I can always smoke but, let's see your mettle and give this an honest try' I had no idea the process took a lot longer than a few days. I had no concept at all about nicotine addiction. I was supremely ignorant. To be honest, it actually takes nicotine a lot longer than a few days to completely leave your body. Think about it...we have nicotine infested tar in our lungs clinging to our cilia. Tar, ffs. This doesn't disapate in a few days. Ever have tar on your feet ? It takes a solvent like gasoline to remove it. The miracle is that our bodies do purge themselves of most. Still, remnants remain. Remants remain forever in our DNA. A sobering fact. After a few days, gathering more knowledge about addiction, I extended the premise of starting smoking again 'if I don't feel better in ...days...weeks...' Some days, I thought, if I don't feel better in five minutes I can always smoke. There were many times when acknowledging the choice saved my quit. My decision to quit smoking held and my resolve to commit to this choice grew minute by minute. It grew by quantumn leaps every damn crave I beat. I'm sharing this thinking about new quitters and smokers on the fence, before the choice to quit becomes clear and non negotiable. You may not have a serious dose of resolve about your decision to quit. Do not worry about this, resolve grows with knowledge and time. After a while there should be no turning back, you will know too much and will have a deeper power committing to your decision. This decision to quit smoking is one of the best decisions you can make in your life. It teaches you about commitment. It nurtures your self respect, self confidence. It saves your life. About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
