  11. Just wanted to share that this is my 3rd full day without smoking. This morning i decided to Go without the patch. I lasted until 330pm at work and had to put a patch on. I was so happy that I didnt just indulge in a drag but frustrated I needed the patch on.

  17. Latoya, you've already received great advice above. So, I really don't have much to add. If you commit to the quit and take smoking completely off the table, this will be the last time you quit. Guaranteed. As all-consuming as the withdrawal and obsessive thoughts during the early days feel, the long-term benefits make the rough patches worth it and then some. This process will reward you exponentially. Don't stick anything in your mouth and light it on fire, and...you're good to go!

  18. You've got it now. And on another topic, yes, you can stand the withdrawals. Many of us smoked for 40 years or more, and if we can do it, you can, too! It is uncomfortable, sometimes miserable, and you will have lots of physical and emotional reactions. None of these will kill you, regardless of how it might feel for a few minutes. Drink lots of water and have frequent snacks. You can do this!

  22. Wow! Is this for real? You & your Mom are quitting? That's awesome!! Welcome Ellen and YES ... both of you CAN do this if you commit yourself to never take another puff - not one ... ever!! There are a few of us here that were 50 year plus smokers so I KNOW it can be done. Take back your freedom like we have - it's the greatest thing you will ever do for yourself. There will be challenges but you can get through those. Read, read & read all you can here on the main quit smoking discussion page - at the top the posts with the green pins to the left of them. There is also a library of videos to educate you about this addiction and how to handle quitting. Great to have you both aboard

  24. Day 1: Using Patch but not smoking. I am in a better place emotionally than I was a couple of weeks ago...have been able to “deal” with some issues. SO I’m in the Caboose...had to catch the last car as I ran out of air.... but I’m back on the train. Do or Die mode has kicked in lol! ?

  25. Do whatever you need to do for now so that you don't smoke - not even just a little puff! That is job #1 for you Latoya until you get things under control. That first week or so can be a real roller coaster of emotions and anxiety. It's all normal and you just have to tough it out. Things will get better because every battle you fight with the Nicodemon and win makes you stronger and weakens him. It's a very gradual process so you may not even notice it is happening but ..... IT IS! It's the same way for all of us and it will happen for you too providing you don't smoke. No one here is special or different in any way. We all pay our dues but in doing so, we ALL find our freedom from this horrible addiction

  28. Let those withdrawals remind you that it is a result of the poison leaving your body.......what a beautiful thing. Thankfully they don't last and you immediately start feeling the benefits of quitting once you stop putting all those thousands of chemicals in your body. Welcome to the forum!

  29. I've changed it a little to a 4 X 6. The squats are the hardest so far. The knees are what they used to be. I'm sure as the weight increases everything else will be hard too!

  34. There's no right or wrong way to quit Latoya. Many use NRT items such as the patch, gum or spray. Others use Chantix or similar aids to help them quit. Using an aid will mean you need to discontinue it at some point but the thinking is that by time you will be able to handle it better. Myself, I used patches for the first couple of days then just said the heck with them! It may have been more difficult but after a few days, I had the nicotine out of my body. Then, there was just the mental part of quitting - you know, learning to deal with not smoking while living my life again as a non-smoker. It has worked out for me though. Commitment to quitting is very important!

  36. You can make it the last time that you quit! It's been two days. One more day and nicotine will be absent from your body and then it's all psychological.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
