April 28, 20206 yr I spent about a month eating last years Hurricane supplies and various emergency foodstuffs and today ! I went hog wild and had a ton of FOOD delivered. Some replenishing emergencies and a lot of FRESH. Actually nothing crazy, it was just after being so parsimonious, to have this ABUNDANCE and CHOICE is friggin' amazing. Why aren't I hungry ? Weird. Tomorrow, I will eat something grand. I am hearing more activity on the street but, people are wearing masks and keeping distance, mostly. I need to pop out and mail some letters/bills tomorrow, my first time away from house/courtyard since March 17. Think I'm a bit squirrel-y ? Our lock-down is extended through May 15 6365 cases, 406 deaths 23 new cases today, 0 deaths.
April 28, 20206 yr We've developed a food-based barter economy in my community. It's not a highly organized effort, but it is working out. I have an abundance of meats and access to a good supply of milk and eggs. Other folks have an abundance of fruits and vegetables be they fresh, frozen, or canned. Folks leave a cooler on the porch, a call is made, and we swap out one food item for another. One of our neighbors down the road has been keeping herself busy during all this by making various cakes and pies. She made us a red velvet cake over the weekend (absolutely delicious by the way) and for compensation I gave her a slab of bacon. And if you're saying to yourself: Hey Boo, aren't you the exercise and healthy eating guy, what are you doing gorging yourself with red velvet cake? Look...I never said I was perfect. Leave me alone! If there's an upside to this situation, it may very well be that we start talking to members of our immediate community again. In a system where supply chains are fragile and so-called leaders prove themselves useless time-and-again, now is a good time to look closer to home for a support system.
April 28, 20206 yr Yes Yes ^^^^ @Boo, slowly things are coming to the city as well. Signing up for delivery of farm produce. I am so happy about this, Virus aside. To have access to farmers will save our raggedy asses. Can I trade a painting for some slabs of bacon or ?, Boo ?

Well, that won't work either. I'll pm my art site and maybe something will strike your fancy or always willing to do something brand new for you and Sugar Britches and Maddie May. That would be extraordinary to trade for some of your...meat...but, what will Doreen think ? Oh gawd, here she comes with her frying pan. Yikes !

And now...natural disasters! "What next?" I asked. A headline I read today: "Invasive 'Murder Hornet' Spotted in U.S. for First Time" And in the on-deck circle...Sharknado!

May 5, 20206 yr Today is Cinco de Mayo, a BIG holiday in California for the Spanish speaking population. I'm on the outskirts of Santa Maria where the number of cases has gone up daily by 6-7. And I'm hoping this holiday doesn't cause a spike since our Governor is also going to begin a gradual opening of our state by as soon as Friday...……...
May 6, 20206 yr Author So down here we are easing up some of the restrictions...well everywhere except my state...we are also looking at maybe opening the international boarder across the ditch to NZ..every state has schools opening again except Victoria and Tassie (I think)...I reckon we are waiting 2 weeks to see how bad the spike is in the other states truth be told. We locked down hard and early although never went beyond stage 3....we are fairing ok and the horrors in the Northern hemisphere are just heartbreaking...it's going to be an odd little mother's Day on Sunday.
May 6, 20206 yr 95 people died in the last 24 hours in California and plans for phase 1of reopening are still on course for Friday. What's so disheartening too is hearing the words "some kind of semblance " or "our new normal". This virus has really changed the world forever.... 😢
May 6, 20206 yr Things will definitely be different for quite awhile until they finally come up with some kind of vaccine. I truly believe that things will get back to something that remotely resembles normal then. We just have to endure the minor inconveniences until we get to that stage of reality.
May 7, 20206 yr Covid Act Now A tremendous resource. I've signed up for daily emails. Excellent sources, highly recommended.
