  1. I know a guy named Alvin. Has a bad attitude and a punchable face. He's pretty easy to hate.
  2. Nicotine doubles the rate that the body depletes caffeine. An ex-smoker consuming the same amount of caffeine after quitting will feel like they have doubled their caffeine consumption. Probably not a bad idea to cut back on the caffeine when quitting smoking. Unless you need to stay awake for a while and walk to Pensacola for some reason.
  3. Don't put added pressure on yourself by feeling the need to be positive. Bad news elicits negative emotions, this is just the natural order of things. Stay strong Linda.
  4. Quitting smoking is largely a matter of time, patience, and repetition. The rough seas of the early days eventually give way to smooth sailing. Good job Robbie. Congratulations.

  8. I was pressed for time this morning, but did get in a bit of strength work: Squats, Romanian Deadlifts, and Overhead Presses. Finished up by pushing the prowler sled a few laps. You do what you can with the time you have.
  9. "Double meat." "Sandwich." "Something sexual." Note to self: sometimes you need to simply back away from the thread.
  10. Not to go off on a tangent here, but... The appeal to authority fallacy is likely the most dangerous of all the logical fallacies. Folks with impressive credentials and academic accolades are still human beings. Some of them have been corrupted. Others are dishonest. Some will speak with authority on issues that they are ignorant of. Be skeptical. Ask questions.
  11. My former dentist(he retired last year)had photos of his son and daughter the day they graduated from college on the wall in the reception area. With the amount of money I spent in there, I couldn't help but feel like I helped put those kids through school.
  12. Quitting smoking is not rocket science. You stop putting cigarettes in your mouth and setting them on fire. One step and done. It's a simple process. You have all of the knowledge you need. I'm not licensed or board certified, but that is some terrible advice from a therapist. Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for yourself physically and mentally. Self-medicating with nicotine is a dead-end loop. That was my experience. When you no longer live your life in varying degrees of nicotine withdrawal, things start to clear up a bit.

  16. Got in a standard workout this morning. Warmed up on the Concept 2 Rower. Did some strength work: Deadlifts, High-Boy Rows, Chin-Ups, and Farmer's Walk. Finished up with five rounds of boxing on the heavy bag.
  17. Recognizing the addiction is a big step in quitting smoking. All of those "reasons" we smoked. That list of times we "needed" a cigarette...all null and void. We smoked because we were addicted to nicotine. We were addicted to nicotine because we smoked. Smoking was never anything more than us feeding our addiction. You have made a breakthrough here Dianne. Congratulations.

13 All's well here. The biggest thing going on at Boo Acres these days is the little gal's quest to walk. I think she's made up her mind that she's going to be walking by her first birthday. Hope things are going well your way.

  20. Congratulations on two-months of freedom Steven.
  21. I lurked here for a few weeks before I joined. Reading the stories of people who had successfully quit was a major impetus for me to start my own quit. Once something has been done, you know it can be done. Welcome aboard Dianne. Quitting smoking is one of the best things you will ever do for yourself.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
