  3. You can do this! Reclassify the cravings… just memories, just noisy commercials for s—t you’re not buying. Not commands. You choose now. Choose freedom!

  4. One of the most difficyult part of the long term quit is keeping our thinking on track. By that I mean not allowing those cravings and memories of smoking occupy our thinking on a regular basis. Sometimes we actually have to force our thoughts to the positives we're experiencing since we've quit. More money in our pockets, freedom from the need to go find a place to smoke every 1/2 hour or so, better health, more energy, more time to enjoy other things in life. Paying special attention to where your thinking is headed and redirecting that to positive thoughts can make a huge difference in achieving your goal of not only quitting but doing it while being happier about it

  5. We're each in charge of controlling our own thoughts and reeling those bad thoughts in when necessary. No one other that you can do that for yourself and I'm sure you know that. It does help to come here and talk about our struggles though because there's so many others who have been through the same difficult times and they're always available to help ourselves get our thinking back on track. You know what you have to do to keep on track and what you might do to derail it all. Stay the course @Pilgrim. You'll be better off in the long run and happier too!

  13. Yup, like Doreen said, it gets easier in time. Trust me, I never thought it would get easier but here I am over 2 years later and I'm telling you that it does. You just have to stick with it! Nobody was more grumpy than I was. I would fight with my whole family because I was so on edge. The first few months are the hardest. My recommendation is to come on here every day and do the daily NOPE pledge, it will keep you focused! You can do this Jane!

  14. Thank so much, everyone! I have had a wonderful day with friends and family...but did not even realize until I opened QT that it was my anniversary! After smoking for 40 years, I knew there would be health benefits to quitting smoking (after I really understood that the only way smoking relieves stress is because the addiction is fed), and I enjoy those everyday. What is a totally unexpected benefit are lifetime friends that I have made on this board and QSMB....we mourn the ones we have lost, jwg. Jillar. and many others. And we celebrate that we all have chosen to improve our health an lengthen our lives! Thank you for the celebration and Yay for all of us quitters! And very special thanks, to dearest of friends, Doreen!! One day we are going to meet in person!!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
