  1. Well today was a major achievement. My car broke down on the way to work and I pulled in at the garage . 2 hour wait for recovery truck and managed not to go for the fags. Under normal circumastances this stress would have ruined my quit... not today though! Very happy

  10. Good work Jules. Recognizing that cigarettes bring nothing to the table during stressful times is a major step in breaking the cycle of addictive thoughts. You've got this.

  19. JB unfortunately I am in a Place right now where Quitting is indeed a challenge. You are not out of line at all in the advice you have given. I knew the situation with my mother was going to make things very difficult & was concerned it would make my Quit much harder. Mom is post op oral cancer...she is also still having delirium symptoms which have been a huge challenge. She is elderly at age 87...her condition will improve with time. I am accustomed to her abuse but this surgery has made things 100x worse. Not having any contact with her is not an option...believe me, this has been advised by Therapists many times....but I have a sister who I love very much and without my help she would become ill from having to deal with mom on her own. I am going to take just a little time to reduce my high anxiety but still try in the meantime to work toward my own important goal, which of course is being smoke free. As mom improves the obstacles will reduce. I need to concentrate on ME & MY needs. MY QUIT. Going into this challenge requires less anxiety. Less time being a Caregiver. More time caring for myself. My whole life has been dedicated to being a Health Care Professional and I can’t change my personality...but I CAN change my habits. Thank you for your caring insight & advice JB. I CAN & WILL conquer this. Everyone on this site has been encouraging & thoughtful. Now it’s up to me to choose wisely & care for myself. I am staying on the site to give me the motivation & positive relationships needed to kick this habit. Better than being a “lurker”. Doreen would catch me “lurking” anyway. I’m hoping the next week will provide less anxiety & more peace of mind to escape “the alley”. I know I CAN.

  21. Sarge said he'd quit when they got to a Buck. Then he "couldn't afford them" at Two Dollars. Completely bypassed $3.00 but *swore* he'd never pay 4 bucks a pack. When he finally quit, they were $5.50 a pack (locally, Midwest - Ohio, U.S.) Price doesn't matter to a Junkie. Price. Does. Not. Matter. Ultimately, it was Health Scare. High blood pressure + High Cholesterol + High blood sugar + (a number of other minor issues all diagnosed at the same time) that made Sarge make some dramatic lifestyle changes ... only one of which was quitting smoking. 22. Good stuff Jules!! I love how excited you are about turning your back on smokes in a stressful situation. This show just how committed you are to this quit. As Boo said, it is real progress when you finally realize that smoking does nothing to make your life situations any better.

  28. Canada has maple syrup and beer, so does 7-11 store. Those people are so thick up there "Eh". Don't get off the boat in Canada. That kind of stupid can rub off.

  29. Right on! If anyone "hogged" all the smokes, at least you can say it wasn't you. OK well, so much for my attempt at humor. So... Just wanted to say "Good job" and stuff.

  32. Don't let this define your quit. Don't use this as an excuse to continue to feed your addiction. I don't delete accounts, don't give up on people and don't subscribe to the notion that relapsing is any kind of a valid reason to just give up. I'll be back with a couple of videos that you need to watch.

  33. "Never give up! Keep trying........" I had a reaction when I reached this part of your post. It seems to me that this right here is what lies at the heart of your relapse. As long as you continue to "try" you will continue to struggle. This is how it has worked (and also not worked) for me anyway. In previous quits, I definitely remember that feeling of trying to quit. I'd even say it out loud if offered a smoke. "No thanks. I'm trying to quit". In all those previous quit attempts that's as far as it went- trying. Inevitably, the moment comes when you're just not trying hard enough. Or something else is just trying harder to get you to smoke. In my view, it was the mindset that smoking is not, under any circumstances, an option. It doesn't matter what kind of physical, mental, emotional, situational chaos is going on... there is no smoking. Period. Stop trying and just do.

  34. I was saddened to read ,you have smoked..with your health issues, staying quit is sooooo important.. Learn by this...yes those cancer cigs are still as horrible and will kill you ,just as they have always done.. Ask yourself what you can do different..so this doesn't happen again.... You have to be prepared ,for when the urges pop up... Dust down...let'get this done.!!!!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
