New Federal Budget in Canada is out today and they are putting another $1.00/carton of 200 cigarettes on the cost. Put tax on top of that and it's even more, plus retailers tend to take these opportunities to add a little for themselves.

 

Just in the year I have quit, there's been at least 2 increases and that price will NEVER go down - never!! It's all music to my ears of course now that I have quit and ..... even more motivation never to go back to feeding this addiction.

As I have said before that is  the same where I live in the Northwest.  With increases this year over $9.00 a pack.  I cannot how much people will pay to do this to themselves (me included).  My bank account is actually in the black at the end of each month now.  Can't wait to see what that 1 year reward I am saving for will be.

Cha ching, ciggs out here in NY are around 14 per pack. What alot of stores do is they get the swags from virginia and sell them for 9-10 bucks a pack. After i quit my car( a lease) and insurance plus gas are paid for each month. #NOPE

I guess we’re doing good in the South. I changed brands according to price. About 40 bucks per carton. If I was conscious of my smoking I could *make* a carton last a week.

Otherwise I smoked about a carton and a half per week.

My wife’s are about $45 per carton. A carton will last her about a week and a half.

Yeah, we smoked a car payment per month.

I was behind a lady at a convenience store last week who bought a carton of my old brand....$72.00!!!!

I think a carton was about $80.00 - $90.00 when I quit so they would be more now but, the people who are really paying through the nose are the people down-under. I believe they are paying $25.00 a pack there Maybe Givein can confirm that? Just goes to show, people will smoke no matter what the cost!!

Last time I looked, my old brand cost only a little over $5.00 a pack...but I am from North Carolina, home of big tobacco companies like RJ Reynolds and they still have big pull here.

I’m in Canada and was paying just under 14 a pack and now they announced an increase today. A carton here is definitely over 100!

I was a pack a day and its a total rip off here, if it wasnt for work i wouldnt be living here. These people give their money away

When I started, I would buy a pack of Marlboro Reds for a $1.50 out of a vending machine at the bowling alley near my high school.  Six-quarters and a stupid decision.

 

Sheesh!  A pack of smokes for under two-bucks and they still sold cigarettes out of vending machines.  I'm not getting any younger over here!

Based on what my ticker said before I lost it last week, it looks like I will save about $1000.00 for my first year of freedom. Not too shabby!

I think I was at about $5,000.00 for my 1st year!! No wonder the wife suddenly has all those fancy clothes

Since I’ve quit, I’ve used my savings on 2  Hawaiian vacations, a new sofa, and an additional $100 per pay period contribution to my 401k.

And although that’s all fantastic, it’s a distant second to the amazing health benefits I’ve realized. 

Talk about a win/win. 

Agreed. The money doesn't mean anything if you're not healthy enough to use it to your benefit.

Last two years I smoked it was costing me about $1.25 a pack simply because I was making my own with tubes, tobacco, and a cigarette machine.

Right now though the pre-rolled ones I smoked are just about $5 a pack.

 

Some snarky people think it is great that the price of smokes keeps going up.

Just wait though. Once enough people quit because cigarettes are just too expensive, they will start raising tax to unimaginable levels on other things THEN people won't be laughing.

 

I do not know why the govts of the world want people to quit smoking anyways. The feds are getting paid pretty in taxes over tobacco sales.

 

Strange as it may sound, i empathize with smokers. I chose to quit but I have not forgotten what it was like to be treated like a disease.

When I first started I would buy them from a machine at a Bay gas station in the little town which I lived.  It was across the street from the church we went to on Wed night.

They were $.50 per pack.  

I remember bitching when they went up to $.55

It really is a car payment, they give the people what they need to quit.. 400 a month(pack a day in NY) for a habit and people will bitch and moan about money. 

People will smoke no matter what the cost. Just ask those down under who were paying a ridiculous amount of money for a pack of smokes. It's like any drug. People will buy the drug before food
