  3. Fantastic! I used to really miss that first smoke, too. But it changes and gets better. You’ll find something else to kickstart your days… a cuppa, a brisk walk, a cold drink, or whatever. Think of this as a period of experimentation, not deprivation. You’ve built a really solid start. Keep up the great work!

  5. Evening all hope you have all had a good day. Well its nearly the end of day 12 for me. Its been a funny old day. Have had a nagging headache all day. Morning seems to be a bad time when I miss that first cig but banish the thought away. I actually got on our exercise bike this morning for the first time in months, last time i used it was puffing seconds after i got on it this time wasnt as breathless, admitedly was only on it for approx 5 mins but was a start. Onwards and upwards. If I have posted this under wrong heading maybe somebody can point me to right place.

  6. WTG. It helps to have a list of things (written or just in thought) to use as replacements for that cigarette time. We need to fill the voids left behind in our time/behavior (hopefully good long term doable things). I also kept an ongoing list of good benefits as they were accrued from not smoking and referred back to it (often in the early days) as a reminder to get through tough periods. 12 days never to be repeated! Yay!

  10. Hi @Jane, congrats on day 12 and isn't it awesome when we start seeing positive results of quitting like you did on your exercise bike. This is the right place to post about your journey. I use to read my old posts each Monthaversary just so I wouldn't forget where I came from. Because I did not want to do that whole first year ever again...

  13. Sounds like you know what to expect from past quits. The #1 Golden Rule we all need to adhere to is --- not one puff ever. Smoking is an addiction to nicotine (not just a bad habit) and that first puff or cigarette leads eventually to the next, and the next, and the next for most addicts. Knowledge really is power. I encourage you to read how & why we get physically & mentally addicted and what we can do to help ourselves (the article "Addiction 101" on the why quit.com site is long but I found to be very helpful & insightful). And then read some more to actively change how you see smoking (for what it really is). For me, the "switchover" in thinking & perspective was hard won but worth all the work & angst it took to change myself to no longer even want to smoke. I know someone who quit for 15 years but always felt like she was missing out, that it wasn't fair, was resentful, and really struggled at times using only her will power to remain quit. IMO will power is not the way to go. Willingness & free choice is the path to an eventual long & peaceful quit. That is the true victory. You can remain smoke free. You will never have to redo the early days. Keep going.

  15. Thanks Minnie Mouse, I just passed my 13th year and I also will NEVER go back, NOPE 365 just became a morning ritual for me and I don't want to lose that!

  16. Or triple dip (as in my case at this moment). lol I was a member at one time coming here after QSMB went down. When NOPE 365 was hacked I saw that scattered members were seeking info here (& on another site). When it came back up I wanted those here to be made aware of it so I rejoined here to post re it (forgot my original password & name). And yes, I encourage everyone starting out to educate themselves on their nicotine addiction and to use any tools & resources available to themselves which includes being active accountable participating members of a support group(s). Whatever it takes ... . (I actually was a volunteer certified facilitator for the Amer. Lung Assoc. to teach their smoking cessation class at one time.) Coming up on 13 years FREE and I have absolutely no desire to ever go back so my pledging & everyday participation is something no longer necessary for me but it's always good to know that while I'm out living my life now that my "nests" are always (hopefully) still there if need be. Stay free everyone!

  20. I’ve been pledging on NOPE daily for 15 years. I hope it’s temporary and I also hope the person/people running the site are ok as well. I also miss it

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
