We do not have a human bullhorn in our blood family but my older brother dates one. She suffers from alcoholism and is a serious extrovert. I have been around her but once but my sisters hate the woman.  The reason it took your aunt 25 minutes to get there is she had to inflate her ego first.

On another note - It sounds like you are concerned for your dad. That means you two must get along well. You are likely the morale boost he needs to get through this so it is great you can be there for him during this time.

 

With the lady who had coexist and resist hate on her car, I have seen those bumper stickers. Here is what those really mean -

 

Coexist is about religion. Theirs is typically some silly crap like pagan, wiccan, slapahoe, tree hugger, or whatever.

 

Resist Hate means they are either into interracial relationships (and think it is disgusting to date their own kind) or it is some "out and proud" gay, lesbo, or tranny.

From what I saw, I think hipster would be a fair bet.  Even when they're outraged, it's damn near impossible to take a hipster seriously about anything.

 

She was a few miles away from the North Shore where the hipsters hang out.  So perhaps being in a different environment, out there with all of us unwashed rubes who weren't fans of the band before they were famous, had her going on the offensive.  Trying to assert dominance so as not to be overtaken by a foreign tribe.

Whew!  I misread your initial post.  I saw "not expected to survive" and assumed the worst.

 

I'm still sorry your mom had to go through that, but I'm relieved to hear she's going to recover.

My best buddy for 64 years has been in hospital and now hospice since Xmas with pancreatic cancer and brain seizures..

I always check with her grown kids,it's OK for me to go in..just in case it's a bad time.

Well...that's the thing.  While it's good to vent from time-to-time, I feel it should be pointed out that the overwhelming majority of family and friends have been nothing but supportive and helpful.  Mom and Dad still live in the house I grew up in.  It's a rural and tight-knit community.  The neighbors have been, without being asked, volunteering to help in anyway possible.  One of my uncles had open heart surgery four-years ago and has been incredibly helpful along the way insofar as answering questions and letting us know what to expect.  There have been many other instances of people going above and beyond to help.

 

But of course, I dedicated an entire paragraph to that one pain-in-the-ass family member that got under my skin.  All the while, glossing over the many helpful folks who've stepped up.  The squeaky wheel really does get the grease doesn't it.

 

So in keeping with the theme of this thread, I'm annoyed with myself for focusing on the negative while ignoring the positive.  It would probably do wonders for me to spend more time focusing on the positive.

@Boo don't forget to cut yaself some slack, tipping you are stressed and sleep deprived so coming on here to have a gripe about the one bad egg may have prevented you doing your lolly at her which while it woulda felt good wouldn't have helped ya dad or anyone else. So vent here were its safe as reci said and save positive, happy happy joy joy boo for the real world, just for now.

I have watched my daughter Nicky bounce back from strong to buckets of tears this week....in a matter of minutes..

We are all human...

And we all deal with it in different ways...

About to pick up ingredients so she could enjoy home-made meth instead of the factory stuff she gets at her dealer.

To be honest it could have been an expensive perfume but in the doses I've encountered it could be considered a weapon of mass destruction.
