Damn Cigs

Featured Replies

Just got news this week my mother in law has what they believe to be lung cancer. It is a small mass in the lower right lobe. Biopsy is difficult and the surgeon believes it is cancer, stage 1. She will be having some test and then surgery to remove the lower lobe. They also found a spot yet unknown on her thyroid during pet scan. MD says they will test that in the beginning of surgery and if it cancer will sew her back up. I don't understand why? Also, for a kicker emphysema in beginning stage.

She will be 79 in August, not on any meds ever, labs always perfect....smoked for 60 years.

I am saddened by this news but also angry. My daughter is 15 and they are very close..She is suppose to be here to watch her grow and enter the world.

I am also piss ed that it took me to age 50 to quit! Damn smokes..never again..nope never!

Jess, that is sad news. My mom has lung cancer too and I quit at 50 too. But better late than never, right? Today I was thinking about that time line chart that shows how your body heals after quitting.so we are actively healing right now.

My father in law is in mid 80s and also lung cancer. Cigar smoker. So bad he isn't getting any treatment except oxygen 24 hours a day. Can't walk without help. Downhill fast in last year.

On good note wife will be cancer free a year in August.

Positive thoughts for you and your family.

So happy about Mrs Bakon...

All I can say is damn cigs..what a shame they exist and that many of us were so ignorant and used them. My mother in law is picture of health at 79 except for the damage of the cigs...

So very sorry, Jess...prayers for strength and healing...

Oh Jess I am so sorry to hear it :(

Thanks Ava but we all know when we smoke the risks...

My MD was enlightening when I was pondering yet another attempt at a quick. She changed my whole outlook on smoking and life threatening disease. I always had the thought..I hope I don't get lung cancer, copd, emphysema, chf someday because of smoking. She said if you smoke long enough it is not a matter of if but which one..guarantee.

That made a big impact on me and my mother in law proves it..totally healthy entire life but the smoking is getting her...

That MD had it right unfortunately. I wish we had of realized sooner but better late than never.

Sorry about your mums situations Jess. Sending strength for you and your family. xx

I saw my mom quiting age 57 throatcancer and half a year after 'cancerfree' they found a tumor in her lungs, that on the size had been there already with the throatcancer!!! Makes me also angry why not screen someone with throatcancer and smoking screening on lungcancer with one single X-ray.
lost energy, both parents died lungcancer.

Sorry Jess to hear this and I to damn those cigs

So sorry to hear this Jess... Sending my prayers. It's true, we all knew the risks as smokers, and we all chose to ignore them! Hopefully they can help your mum... Is she still smiling, or not? I hate those damn cigs, too...

Thanks Ross. It is my mother in law. She isn't saying too much or acting much different. She will meet with the surgeon in a week and now says maybe she will not do anything. It appears as if the surgery is intense and a long recovery with only a 65% 5 year life expectancy. We will support whatever decision she makes but for the life of me I cannot understand her continued smoking.

Unbelievable how this addiction controls us. I am so grateful for my quit and QT, just hope it wasn't too late

Jess, I'm sorry to hear this.  I will keep her in my good thoughts.

And the things you are saying, "damn cigs" are so spot on.  I wonder if it is around this time in a persons quit that the impact and horror of it all hits hard.  Earlier in the quit, we did what we could to manage the stress and now we have room to reflect.  Don't know.  But you're right.

sucks Jess....pisses me off too...lost my dad to lung ca...an aunt to emphysema...hate smoking...hate it!  Hopefully they caught it in time for your mother in law....saying prayers..

**** **** **** **** **** everything about god damned cigarettes, right?

Easy ******* Peasy

Sorry to read that news Jess. I hope that it all has been caught in time and that her prognosis is good.

Sarge is right... *f uck cigs!!!!*
