How come some bars can open while other's can't? Is it just bars with outdoor patios that can open?

Bars that also serve food were allowed to open so bars that didn't serve were ordering pizzas or serving popcorn as a loophole to the rule. The fire Marshall went in to the bar I reported and told them they weren't supposed to be open but he didn't have authority to shut it down so the owner just flipped him off and said he needed the money 😞

They had out big-time fines here for anyone (or business) breaking any of the emergency order dictates. $1,000.00 if you're caught not social distancing or in groups of more than 5 people and so on. I believe the fines for businesses breaking the rules are even higher! And unlike other municipal bylaws, they've been enforcing these ones like crazy. There's a ton of people out serious pocket change 😬

Well imo the United States could learn something from Canada! We are definitely going too fast with reopening. And @Doreensfree our hair salons opened a week or two ago and both they and the customers have to wear masks also.

My hair is now officially in a ponytail 😒

I can't work outside any longer with hair flying all around and getting in my face and all. Hat no longer does it for me cuz the back just flies all over the place in the wind. My hair grows fast I guess. I haven't had a cut since early Feb. so 4 1/2 months growth now and counting. I don't have one of those hair clipper/shear things and not investing a hundred bucks or more in one so F-it! Just gonna go all Rip Van Winkle now 😬

Remember on the last page I said post protest spike?...shoulda kept me fat gob shut....Victoria is the Corona hotspot for Aus.

So have bars open but only for 20 punters at a time....cafes and restraints are the same.

And fines....well here is the friendly reminder that came home with the kid on her last day of term....(Brimbank is the area her school is in)

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR LOCAL POLICE

Victoria Police are aware that the term 2 is about to conclude and that a number of young people like to gather with their friends at the completion of the term at local shopping centres and other public places.

The City of Brimbank has been identified as a current COVID 19 hot spot in the state of Victoria with most of the current cases being a direct result of contact between family and friend groups.  We encourage all students to comply with the current restrictions, and recommend students return home rather than gather in these areas.

The restrictions state you are able to:

·         Have up to 5 visitors in your home at any one time, in addition to the normal residents of a household.

·         Organise a public gathering of up to 10 people in a public place.

Victoria Police will have been working closely with local shopping centres, in an attempt to maintain social distancing and to support the community in ensuring this is done.  Unfortunately, people still choose to knowingly breach these restrictions.  A number of additional police units have been rostered to respond and assess social gathering issues. Should these breaches occur, the below penalties apply.

What are the penalties for noncompliance?

Victoria Police can issue on the spot fines of up to $1,652 for individuals and up to $9,913 for businesses for:

·         Refusing or failing to comply with the emergency directions

·         Refusing or failing to comply with a public health risk power direction

·         Refusing or failing to comply with a direction by the Deputy Chief Health Officer to provide information.

We would like to wish all students a safe and relaxing holiday break and look forward to working with our schools in Term 3.

This is what we need here as we are also going through a spike due to idiots not social distancing. Maybe a hefty fine would do the trick! 😞

Oh Doreen that's just so sad. And ridiculous.

Although, is that a sneaky stick of the day poppin in to another thread.

So the region the kids school is in is a red spot...but the actual suburb her school is in has just been named as part of the top 10 and where they are going door  to door testing. Yes people you read that right, door to door testing in outbreak suburbs.

Here is Bournemouth Beach today ....I'm speechless....

What a bunch of Wally,s.... unbelievable....

People are still dying here by big numbers...

At least that was outdoors. In the US we planned to stuff 19,000 people inside an arena with no mask requirements, no distancing, in a community with one of the highest new case rate increases.  :70_poop: for brains!

That's ridiculous @Doreensfree! They just closed a few beaches back down here this week only days after opening them up because people were not following protocols. Some other beaches that are still open you must show I.D. to police before entering to prove you live within the municipality that the beach is located in. They are also handing out tickets like candy so I'm not sure that's doing much good. People cooped up for months + hot sunny weather = stupidity 😒

No fun here at the Sirius Monastery.  Just coffee, telework, and an empty office space.

I keep the radio on otherwise I worry about the voices I hear.

It's official, bars are mandated to close again July 1 and remain closed until the 26th or until it's rescinded or extended. I already saw a loophole in the order where it says they "should" instead of "must" shutdown if they don't serve dine in sit down meals.

Unfortunately it does nothing about all the social gatherings people think are ok to do without masks or social distancing 😞

You have my complete sympathy J! It's a big deal for me to go to the food store, mask and all, and we only have 23 active cases in our region with 450,000 people. The more they open things up, the crazier people seem to get. I don't get it. Maybe I'm just too old and want to protect what life I have left. Sort of like why I quit smoking?

So we are having the second wave in Melbourne....they have shutdown suburbs and even havevpolice blocking road sd in and out....but NSW is the best...if we cross the boarder to NSW and we live in a lock down suburb...that will be 6 months jail and $11k fine.

G’day Jo

This flare up is pretty worrying to me at the moment. I’m pretty crook. Got a heavy chest infection. On the prednisone so my umune system is shoot. I’m the perfect candidate for the covid thing to bump me off.

So I’m praying that this spike can be contained. My son lives in Melbourne so I’m pretty up to date on the personal toll keeping the virus in check is having on People’s lives. And very grateful for thier efforts cause let’s face it could happen anywhere.

We live in strange times......

I am also in the high risk group - I just received an invite to a July 4th party and another to a high school graduation party.  I was kind of shocked since it was not too long ago that NY was the epicenter....and both hosts of these parties are relatives of mine...one of whom works in a senior rehab facility and just had a co-worker pass away from Covid-19! I will politely decline both invites....and just stay home and relax by my pool, which I just opened last week!! Heck, I might even swim in it if my bathing suit fits (I have gained the dreaded quarantine 15!!) 😞

In this heat we're having lately, I would be going in "au natural" if my suit didn't fit.

@Cbdave....stay safe. Most of us down here are doing the right thing, it's just an element letting us all down. Pred always trashes the immune system. Make sure your getting some morning sun. Eat lots of pineapple, mangos, broccoli, walnuts and ginger..not sure if yta have feijoes up there but if y a can eat some of them..they are all super boosters for your immune system. Ginger and thyme tea will help both the chest infection and your immune system. If you can't get ya hands on some thyme tea bags you can just use some dried leaves in tea difusser or even fresh leaces....bssically hot water from ya kettle, thyme, ginger, some honey and drink a few times a day, but morning and night at the least.. Grandma always checked in a baye leaf too, an probably a nip of brand yg at bed time. Even just drinking ginger beer or eating some crystal ginger will be great for your immune system, an everyone knows QLD has the best ginger in Aus.

Probably not a good idea to try and sneak into Canada at the moment either. Some pretty jaw-dropping Federal Border Protection Agency penalties in place due to Covid-19:

"Strict penalties are in place for any traveler who fails to comply with border restrictions under the Quarantine Act, such as entry into the country under false pretenses, non-compliance with self-isolation regulations and other offenses under the Federal Quarantine Act. Penalties will include a fine of up to $750,000.00 and up to six months imprisonment.

Those penalties jump to a $1-million fine and up to three years imprisonment if travelers' actions result in risk of death or serious harm to someone else."

Haven't heard of anyone getting charged yet but hey, with penalties like that in place, I wouldn't take any chances 😬

This whole pandemic is much worse than it should be all because of all the covidiots out there.

I'm stunned to see so many ignorant idiots out there still calling Covid-19 a hoax today, absolutely mind boggling to see so many reports and videos of stupid people deliberately violate the social distancing guidelines.  The spikes in cases from the reopening are cause by all these idiots.
