  1. Dunno if I'm a fan of the old mother's Day....it was good when my grandma was here....and I thought it would be good when I had a kid but mostly unless I get myself something she usually forgets....but mostly it's a sad day missing my grandma...missing what I didn't/don't have with my mum...
  2. So with baby Boo's imminent arrival and @Boo's his future of Let It Go and the wiggles on repeat.... let's share nursery rhymes and kiddy songs from our childhoods (or our kids) to determine sensitise his sensitive ears.... So here are some of my faves...
  3. The Black Balloon...

  9. Hmmmm....... 1. I had to have the ski patrol stretcher me off the mountain after dislocating my knee when my ski didn't realise while I somersaulted down the slope. 2. I got third degree sunburn on my legs when my drunk mates knocked me unconcious in a tubing/drinking game accident then left my unconcious arse lying on the bank of river under the shade of a tree for 7 hours while they kept skiing and tubing. 3. I dislocated my shoulder while windsurfing when I washed out on a wave and got caught in the safety rope.
  10. Works best with Thai but it's nice with India...although my lot reckon it's too much coconut with a korma. I like it best with a satay or as a balance to a really hot curry like a Thai Green curry. Works well with a lot of Malaysian recipient too. 11. Most of our boys were still busy in the Pacific but VE day bought out the crowds in Melbourne... The building is our Shrine of Remembrance built after WW1
  12. Here ya go @catlover.... Coconut Rice 1 cup jasmine rice (you can use basmati or long grain too) 1 tin coconut milk (not the lite one...I dunno why it makes a difference but it does) 1/4 cup of shredded coconut (optional) Water (1 use about 3/4 of the empty milk tin) Pinch of salt (This is a milk, sweat rice to undercut a spicy curry, especially Thai..but if there are use ups (left overs) I'll usually just mix through some chilli and sliced spring onions and eat it plain) Now I'm lazy, I cook all my rice in a rice cooker but I'll give you both... Rice cooker... 1. Rice rice, just once (normally I'd rice rice until the water is clear unless I'm doing sticky rice or sushi rice). 2. Add milk and coconut, give a mix, add enough water so that if you put your index finger in to sit on the rice the water level sits at you second finger bend (normal rice is 1st finger bend and sushi rice is above the 2nd finger bend, again dunno why it's just how my Filo friends Lola showed me) 3. Set to cook and walk away. Stove top... Steps 1-2 as above Step 3..bring to boil, reduce to simmer, storing occasionally until cooked through...you may need to add water if dries out. Will need to cook for about 15 mins.
  13. Nope...and that goes double on the day we remember that 75 years ago today saw Victory in Europe....
  14. Fark!.....Get well soon mate....defo sending up thoughts n prayers...you are one tough ol codger so stay strong and listen to the quacks.
  15. Oh....and unlike baseball bowlers are allowed to hit the batters....just ask the Poms....they base their how fielding game around playing the body...nearly caused riot in staid old Adelaide. Some more cricket songs...which are actually about cricket.... Omg I just remembered we even have an entire musical about a cricketer...Warnie the Musical
  16. @Sazerac....if it makes us feel any better I woulda sworn on a stack of bibles this song was about cricket...clearly I only listened to the chorus and then really just the stuff about catching someone out... An it's about infidelity... Oh..."howzat" is how Aussie cricketers ask an umpire if something is out....usually a knick to the wicki for caught behind or an lbw (leg before wicket....when the bowler bowls the ball and hits the batter in the leg which stops it hitting the stumps)...howzat is much quicker than "how is that"
  17. Some bloke took a run up and bowled to the batter. The commentator believed he knicked (make a slight contact with the bat)....so from this I know that the Sri Lankans were bowling, the wicki (wicket keeper) went up (claimed he had caught the ball of the bat) the commentator thought so too but the Umpire and not called him out (raised 1 finger above his head...there is no actual calling by the umpires like blues do...just lots of fancy hand and arm signals) Because it can take that long to play 2 innings...there are 11 players on a side and they all get to bat until the fielding team gets 10 of them out, and there are no strikes so you can let 58 balls in a row pass you....and you don't have to run when you hit the ball unless you want to (unless your playing tippy touch in ya mum's backyard or on the beach). Oh and if you hit it over the fence you get 6 runs.
  18. Um...ok...let's see... "to make things perfectly clear".... 1. Pretty sure a couple if billion Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, West Indians and Nepalese (they play in the 20/20 world cup) would object strongly to be referred to as Anglo. 2. As a member of the greatest cricket nation on earth, I'd like to lodge a protest on behalf of ourselves, our little cussy-bros the kiwis and those odd cousin's of ours Sth Africa and Zimbabwe...defo not a north of the equator strong hold. 3. The test match format of the game (cricket) was invented in Melbourne, Australia....below the equator....oh an while ya down here... 4. 20/20 cricket was the brain child of a kiwi and started there until the Poms n Taffies wrote up the official rules n claimed it. And finally... 5. As one of the real Wild Colonials (cos the Irish/Australian folk song tells us it's us)....it's gotta be cricket. Oh..and I can think of 4 songs about or with significant references to cricket but only one about baseball Um.... Cricket is kinda like the chess to baseball's checkers...it's played on an oval with no diamond just two wickets....a test game is played over 2 innings that take up to 5 days to play and might end in a draw...both teams wear white...or cream, but usually white....except if you play a short form of the game, 1 day or 20/20 where they wear brightly coloured outfits....oh and when you bat, you wear a catching gear.
  19. Polls are now open....yes it's completely pointless, well not really will interesting to see how much national pride plays into people's choices...so tipping the Commonwealth nations, cept Canada, will lean towards cricket and the Yankie Doodles will be voting Baseball...the south Americans and Canadians will probably go for the game with bases... And our non British Europeans won't give a fat rats clacker either way... Polls are now open until 15th....as all Aussie votes go they will be anonymous but feel free to chat below and defend your choice....you may just won you option some swing voters.
  20. Um but it's Thursday? Waiting for Menulog to deliver my tea and trying to thing if a poll question to get some debate happening....

  24. I really need to do a wee but I'm cost warm on the coach so I'm trying to hold on.
  25. As an NRT quitter....I do suspect a certain (most) degree of the feelings of the pressure to go cold turkey or that cold turkey is better than our method comes from within rather than the words of others. There are a minority who take cruel to be kind to the nth degree but the reality is as a whole the negativity to NRT and feeling inferior is more an internal thing than external. Trust me I've been thinkin about this in depth and looking at it from all angles... See the longer we hang here the more we learn and we don't even need to hunt all the info is here...and we are not stupid, while we are proud to be smoke free we know, in our heart of hearts while using NRT we aren't really free, just dancing on the edges. We know we are still feeding our addiction and the shame and insecurities we feel are because we know this. We know we are tempting fate each time we use. Honestly, after thinking about it those feelings of guilt or inequality or whatever associated with NRT are more about being ready on one level to leave it behind and being too scared to take that final step. So those feelings aren't necessarily a bad thing...they show a growth in knowledge and awareness and are the final sign that nrt is on its way out...those feelings are really a bit of a positive, a sign that the end is near. I'd rather see a fellow quitter using NRT longer and not smoking than falling off the train...and I'm torn on starting NRT 3 days in ... I kinda think if it's the difference between having a smoke and not having a smoke is it really so bad...3 weeks in I'd be waving my hands no, stop, don't.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
